Heard this for the first time recently - from the inimitable Luke Cheevers. He used the "Teetotaller" air which is also used for "Invitation to a Funeral". Must ask him where he found it.

Luke learned it from Barry Gleeson, another Dublin singer. He learned it from a recording by Jimmy O'Dea. O'Dea was a famous Irish stage comedian - last vestige of vaudeville, really. Many comic songs were written for him by scriptwriters Seamas Kavanagh and Harry O'DOnovan. Barry reckons O'DOnovan wrote this one.

"Biddy Mulligan" was based on a song called "The Queen of the Coombe" which Kavanagh found in an old (19C.) Theatre Royal programmme.

The song is also on Geraldine & Danny Doyle's album "Emigrant Eyes." There, the spelling is DOOGAN. I found a sound sample at CyberMusic Surplus:

[*It certainly sounds like they're singing "Gilligan's."]

Rego Irish Records also has an album "Through the Eyes of an Irishman," by Tony Kenny which contains DANNY DOOGAN'S JUBILEE in a medley.

It's also on an album called "Irish Pub Songs" by Steve O'Shea.

I found another sound sample of DANNY DOOGAN'S JUBILEE, this one sung by Tony Kenny on his album "Through the Eyes of an Irishman" (Rego Irish, 1995). Authorship is credited to "O'Dea/O'Donovan"—that must be Jimmy O'Dea and Harry O'Donovan.

I don't suppose anyone has the original recording of this done by Jimmy O'Dea? I have been collecting old 78 records of O'Dea over the past number of months but I have not come across this one yet.
Any help would be appreciated :)

I did manage to obtain the original recording of this song. It is sung by both O'Dea and Harry O'Donovan.
