Yep, for those who interested in sessions, we also have a mainly English session at The Red Bull every two weeks!
2nd and 4th Wednesdays, unless there's five Wednesdays in the month when there's an extra one.
Also, The session at the Bulls Head in Mobberley has moved over the road to the Roebuck- That's the first and third Tuesdays.
Did you get all that?

I was wondering a bit where Stockport is as well...but y'know, as long as I know how to find it, whether it's in Cheshire or G. Manchester doesn't matter to me. But then I am an American...

I do know, however, that the Red Bull is a fine folk club and every time I have been there, either as a guest or in attendance at a singer's night, that it's great fun and always a pleasure.

Peter's and Tricia's support and hospitality are also excellent and I am proud to call them friends.

Hi Les,
I went to MSG when I was a student in the 1960s. I sang my first song in English on the stage there on a Monday singers night, with Frank Duffy as the MC.I was terrified! I went back there every Monday evening for years until I moved to Hull to take up a teaching job there.
I saw Bert Lloyd there at least once and MacColl and Seeger several times. I also saw Christy Moore in his very early days, and, if I recall, Anne Briggs who was the most wonderful singer I have ever heard.
Those were the days!

I understand that under local goverment reorganisation Greater Manchester will take in most of Yorkshire. This will allow Mancs to lay claim to the Mancunianisation of the excellent Duncan McFarlane Band. Who are playing in Otley on Friday 8 December!

Otley is almost in Lancashire which is to all intents and purposes .....

I am told that the Song Carriers is continuing under the capable leadership of Dave Bishop sometime of this place. Sue vG and Eight pints are also part of that noble crew that are keeping Terry Whelan's memory alive in the form of traditional song sessions in the Greater Manchester area.

Being realistic a once a month sing is the most that can be expected for the foreseeable future.

Sue vG has just been invited to join as a resident of Ryburn3Step, meeting at The Alma, Cotton Stones near Ripponden [not far from Manchester!].

The residents include: Pete & Chris Coe, Annie Dearman, Steve Harrison, Johnny Adams, Dave Bishop, Bob Butler, Chris Manners, Sue Burgess and Sylvia Needham.

Others frequently seen there from the Song Carriers are John Routledge, Dave Kidman and "Yorkshire Yankee".

I went to the Song Carriers once in about 1974 I think at the Millstone at the back of Oldaham Road near the Unicorn I think. I went about 18 months ago to that pub in Sale....... Volunteer Rifleman?

I really enjoyed both evenings - quite unlike most other clubs. The songs are given pride of place. I cannot believe their is not a place for this kind of club in Greater Manchester

Do the people who are the Carriers have a geographical centre? Most crucial of all is a room fit for purpose and they are few and far between. Songs in the Snug at Lymm seems the nearest in spirit and that is a great night of songs and tunes.

Will their be another McColl day? Do we need a new thread?

I went to the 'Songs in the Snug at Lymm' a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed it - and will be going again.

Our 'Song Carriers Collective' (for want of a better term - I just made that up) has been without a suitable room for some time. We are still carrying on with our singers' workshops (pm '8 Pints' or 'John Routledge' for details - sorry to lumber you with this responsibility out of the blue, guys, but I've lost my cookie and can't seem to get it back). At the moment we inflict the fruits of our labours on the long suffering members of such noble institutions as the Ryburn 3-Step club at Cottonstones, Limbrick and, latterly, Lymm - but it would be nice to have a weekly venue. I think that we all know that it helps to keep the voice in shape to sing regularly. Perhaps somewhere suitable will turn up in 2007?

For those who may miss Swinton Folk Club for the Monday the pub is closed, 4th Dec, we are hoping to have a sing at the Park Inn - About 500 yards down Worsley Road from the Lion. Don't know if they'll let us yet but if not we can have a good old talkaround:-)
