Nope. None at all. Rent films. Turn it off. Sell it. Put it in the bin. Shoot it with a .44

I watch (mostly) the local news and the weather channel. We have four televisions in the house (long story!) and watch MAYBE four hours per week -- the local news and the weather channel.

I have 60-70 channels of 'regular' stuff...(a lot of which IS crap) plus many, many free movies available on demand.

If I WANT to watch TV, I can 'almost' always find something of interest on one of the travel, wildlife (Discovery), local access channels (even replays of a folk festival), local news, Cable news, C-Span (3 different C-Span....last night I watched FDR on Dec. 8, 1941 asking for declaration of War against Japan, plus the ensuing debate in Congress).
If all else fails, I can watch 24/7 films of various Music/Art media from free Showcase or even listen to Jazz or Soothing sound as I go to sleep by choosing one of 30-40 music channels.

Yes, I'm in a major metropolitan area with cable TV/Internet bundling.

All part of the plot. Make it so objectionable that people will wean themselves off of it. Then they'll be primed to jack themselves into The Matrix when they get it up and running in a couple of years.

I've been so disappointed by Discovery in Canada. It used to be about wildlife, science, environment, etc., but over the past couple years it's all bikes, cars, industry, and junk. Daily Planet is the only show left worth watching, for me.

About the time A&E shrugged, said f__k it all and dove headlong into the pooper. "Dog the Bounty Hunter"? On A&E? WTF?

Planet Earth on BBC last night. Brilliant. Jaw- dropping. I almost always hate TV, the only programs I watch normally are either League or Union.

"Judging from what the beeb have in store for us in 2006..."

If it was "in 2006" I could grin and bear it for a couple of weeks. I have a horrible feeling it's 2007 they're talking about..

That shark programme on telly last night was good, but the rest of it was shite.

All the good drama seems to be one off last ever episodes of things I liked: Green Wing, This Life, Bodies.

Sigh

Cable in the Maritimes is AWFUL. All home fix it, real estate, decorating and other crap that is cheap to make and is repeated over and over. Arts and E is all murder and mayhem, TLC is dreadful. I watch Bravo quite a lot and CBC newsworld but the rest is junk. Cable companies really need to give us more choice. I pay for a lot of unwatchabble telly.
