Subject: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: RangerSteve Date: 13 Jan 07 - 02:04 PM I saw this for the first time this morning. It was early (5:30AM) and it took me a few minutes to realize it was a parody of cooking shows. Since I'm in the US, I'm unfamiliar with the show. So, is it a series? As a fan of cooking shows, which I sometimes get critical of, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Any info from the UK Mudcatters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: Bagpuss Date: 13 Jan 07 - 03:26 PM Yes, its a series of short (10 minute I think ) episodes. There were probably about 6 made. It stars Richard E (Withnail & I) Grant and Arabella (The Fast Show) Weir. I loved it, and hope they make some more. Here's a link to the BBC site: Posh Nosh |

Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: RangerSteve Date: 14 Jan 07 - 02:19 AM yeah, their expressions are great. I couldn't tell if they were kidding or if Brits really used those expressions. "Embarass the tomatoes". "Using a potato embarasser..." |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 14 Jan 07 - 03:51 AM RS, our upper lips aren't quite so stiff nowadays, and many of our quaint old expressions have been overtaken by, shall we say, 'contemporary' ones! For instance, the charming "Cor blimey mate, strike a light" which we used to exclaim at moments of great surprise, has been replaced by by that well-known reference to sex and eternal damnation, "F**king Hell". Or whereas, on being arrested by a member of the constabulary, a Ne'er-Do-Well would have exclaimed, "It's a fair cop Guv", he would nowadays make the cheerful request, "Get yer f**kin' hands off me you pig b**tard", or words to that effect. Aaahhh, how I pine for those golden days of long ago............! |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: Zany Mouse Date: 14 Jan 07 - 06:41 AM RangerSteve: No, most of the weird expressions used in Posh Nosh are simply weird. I think the worst we have from 'real' chefs is 'sweating the [insert any green leaf veg here]'. Rhiannon |

Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 Jan 07 - 07:19 PM The show is on DVD. I loved it when shown here in Oz - at prime time as a filler on the ABC. |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: RangerSteve Date: 15 Jan 07 - 03:30 PM Thanks for the website. Reading the scripts isn't quite the same as watching the show, unless you remember that Simon is drunk, but it's still fun. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 16 Jan 07 - 04:47 AM There's actually several 'dramatic' & 'comic' threads running through the whole series. |

Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: Dazbo Date: 16 Jan 07 - 06:47 AM Disgracefully the six episodes all seem to be on YouTube in direct contravention of their (YouTube's) copyright policy! |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 16 Jan 07 - 06:40 PM I'm sure the BBC will like that! |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: GUEST,Lance Date: 27 Jan 07 - 12:23 AM I can't find this on DVD, can anyone help? My life just doesn't seem complete without viewing all episodes of Posh Nosh. I don't own any DVD's but I want this one and I can't find a video on google for Posh Nosh. At the risk of embarrassing my cumquats......I'm begging for a reply with a lind to buy this tasty morsel. Thank you |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 27 Jan 07 - 11:32 AM The website there only shows brief extracts - YouTube has some full versions. Including a splendid drawing room version ofb the Raggle Taggle Gypsies as opening credit. This is parody, but there are and have been media chefs who have used just as daft expressions, and been as weird as this pair (eg Fanny Craddock). There's less exaggeration here than some Americans might think. |
Subject: RE: BS: Posh Nosh (British TV Show) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Jan 07 - 11:35 AM Are you in the UK? I don't find it at Amazon here in the U.S., but I did a search on eBay and find one auction with the DVD, for region 2. That's not the U.S. region, and perhaps you know what plays in your area. If it doesn't match your region for commercially sold DVD players you can still play it on your computer, and if you get a copy of the free software DVD Shrink, you can make a copy and change the region when you burn that copy. You'll need to hop on it, though. It is item number 200073283435 and it closes in 3 hours 46 minutes. It goes for GBP 3.00 right now. SRS |
