Well, I'm fed up with it.

I don't want to pay too much for name branding, so I've never been a Mac fan for that reason alone.

I work on both PCs and Macs for my job. A PC at home.

I have a no-name MP3 player, because I should shell out a cupla hundred smackers for the name brand the kiddies have been brainwashed by marketing gurus into buying?

A stock option scandal lands Martha Stewart in prison, but Mr. Jobs not so much as a slap on the hand. Just a stern look.

And their latest ad campaign is just plain annoying.

Anyone else tiring of this "coolest thing ever" advertising propaganda crap?

If not, I've got an iPhone for you, but it costs $500-$600 more than you are currently paying for your cell phone...

THe day you could do a fraction of the good for any size group of people that Jobs has done for thousands of people, you'll probably feel brave enough to post under your own name.

Me? I just prefer Macs. Couldn't give a fart who makes 'em. I've used PCs and Macs and since 1985 have stuck with Macs for personal use - but then I see the computer as just a tool, and have no inclination to fiddle with my registries or undertake all that arcane stuff that PC users have to do. For me, it's 'turn it on, use it, turn it off.'

I try to use a Mac. The security situation is much better than with the much larger platform. I detest much of the advertising, along with the snob appeal (there's plenty with Microsoft as well, and some with Linux). And choosing anonymity or not cannot be used as a measure of courage.

Well, I don't really give a rip about either the PC or the Mac, I'm a use what is at hand and open source as much as possible sort of computer user, like the Capt. except I prefer the PC. Dells are cheap. Very, very cheap.

But it's the other stuff--the iPod, now the iPhone, that is really annoying. And the Apple cult hype--the propaganda, the cult worship of Jobs & Apple by the 20 somethings, the inflated prices for the name brand, and people INSISTING that an iPod really is better than any other MP3 because (fill in the blank with Apple propaganda rationalizations).

The fact is that is that Mac enthusiasts make Windows enthusiasts look like cold fish. Another fact is that I don't use either. Whether he deserves it or not, Jobs gets the credit for Apple's success. His fans adore him.

I hate the "two times faster" claims when what is meant is two times as fast, which can be taken as three times as fast if taken literally (100% + 200% = 300%}.

Yeah, but it's really cool to sit in a coffee bar, with a wifibluetoothdoodah access hotspot ... or something (possibly?), surfing the Net on your Apple Mac Notebook ... isn't it? Fabulous design, darling! Although, having said that, they look a bit plasticky to me ... but what do I know? I tend to think that people who drone on and on about 'design' are, generally speaking, wankers ...

Would a Rastafarian use an "i-and-iPod"?

The fact is that Jobs revitalized a major corporation that was going down for the second time, brought it back to solvency, and injected some new and beautiful excitement into an industry sector populated by dull clone-mongers and grubby mass-production imitators with very little innovation in it.

The fact is that he advanced the product line dramatically, re-defined the company's vision, re-wrote the music industry's map with iTunes and the iPod, and did it with a vision as good as any in the market place, both technically and aesthetically.

I think his detractors are just jealous. He makes no claims to perfection in his person or his products but he keeps moving ahead and dreaming new directions up. Eat yer heart out.

My cousin, a very nice bloke who has my love and respect, is a Mac enthusiast. He has taken his maclumps however, and likes to describe Apple as a company with just as much attitude as Microsoft, just without the market share.

I am an EX-mac fan. Not so much because of the platform, but because of the poor treatment doled out by Apple the company in oh so many ways. And I was given a 40 GB iPOD and frankly couldn't stand it so had to give it away or toss it through a window. I now use a much less expensive SanDisk which comes with an FM radio to boot.

Jobs should stand for his actions as should any other executive, and as Martha Stewart had to do.

I doubt he has much problem doing that. Sorry about the iPod. I enjoy mine a lot.

Oh, computers. And I thought this thread was about work. You know, folks who make a religion out of their jobs. I try to avoid that by not doing anything when I go to work.

With all of the Apple firmware updates installed, this laptop may not become too hot to touch, nevertheless I'll go light on the Job jokes.

Yeah, I think jobs are overrated. Best to live on the dole, a lot less hassle.

From a list correspondent:

"To put this discussion in some perspective, I recently talked to the
CTO of a well known AV company. I asked him how many virus/malware
he was aware of by platform type. He told me:

Win32        200,000
MacOS              4
Linux            300
Symbian    341
FreeBSD       0

This is different from the number of known vulnerabilities, but still
interesting."

Hell, man, that's because those Macintosh-using faggots are so busy being lily-livered, whey-faced,commode-hugging,liberal pansy wieners that they got no gaddam time to write viruses! For real viruses you need a real man's OS!

Farking right, Ginger! Want to play it safe and boring? Get a Mac!
Want adventure, thrills and chills? Get a PC.

More coconut cream pie?

We went Mac mainly because it is reported to be easier to use out of the box. A manual worthy of the name would have helped. Oh, you can find some instructions pre-loaded and more on line, but Catch-22.
