Subject: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: fat B****rd Date: 01 Feb 07 - 05:22 AM BBC UK Radio 3 Sunday February 4th. This programme is to do with the EFDSS 75th Anniversary and according to the Radio Times visits my home county of Lincolnshire (Brigg in particular) I won't be listening but I trust those of you who do will enjoy it. PS why aren't any of our LIncs. members in uit ? Maybe they are. |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: The Borchester Echo Date: 04 Feb 07 - 03:30 PM I did here, where it will be on the replayer for the next week. Peta Webb (VWML Assistant Librarian) was excellent, both as an interviewee and singer, but alas no sign of the estimable Mr Schofield. And interesting revelations into Percy Grainger's faintly bizarre sex life. Liam Robinson and Brian Dawson were dead good too. |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: Ruth Archer Date: 04 Feb 07 - 04:11 PM Brian Dawson's always dead good. FAINTLY bizarre? |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: Folkiedave Date: 04 Feb 07 - 05:30 PM Remember Wooody Allen's strictures on sex....mind it was a bit weird... Anyway you should talk Ruth - what went on in the cowshed? We should be told..... The two academics came over as ......well idiots is too good a word. Why do I always end up screaming at folk programmes on the radio...... |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: GUEST Date: 04 Feb 07 - 08:10 PM Haven't heard it yet, but IIRC from all I've read FAINTLY bizarre doesn't even approach it as far as PG was concerned !!! Shall now rush away and listen to the link - thanks countess! |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: GUEST Date: 04 Feb 07 - 08:40 PM Started to listen - at least 3 factual inaccuracies within the first 5 minutes... already wishing to scream at the set!!! Unless I'm mistaken Grainger started using the phonograph in 1907 - not 1906 as stated... the presenter got the name of the Society wrong, and other points wrong as well..... I'm obviously too much of an anorak! I shall persevere though..... |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: Sooz Date: 05 Feb 07 - 11:26 AM It was only the briefest selection from Lincolnshire's enormous musical heritage. Still - better than nowt. |

Subject: RE: Music Matters BBC Radio 3 From: GUEST,Henryp Date: 06 Feb 07 - 05:19 AM Grainger first visited Brigg in 1905, in April for the North Lincolnshire Musical Competition and again in September. He returned the next year, first, I think, for the Competition in May and then in July with an Edison Bell phonograph. I have read this had been bought by the Folk Song Society and was promptly 'borrowed' by Grainger from Lucy Broadwood. |
