Subject: BS: Buda Wiener Dog Races! From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Feb 07 - 05:44 PM Check this out. An amusing look at the biggest wiener dog race in Texas... Wiener Dogs compete for the food and the glory! It warms my heart to see Texans getting along this great with wiener dogs. ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Buda Wiener Dog Races! From: Rapparee Date: 25 Feb 07 - 09:03 PM Story goes that there were these two young Ojibway guys who finally left the Rez to go the big city of Chicago and get jobs. Never having been off the Rez before they weren't sure of things in the Big Outside World, but they were young and willing to have a go at it. Driving down, they got hungry and stopped at a restaurant with a big sign out front that said "Hot Dogs". Well, they were willing to try. When the food was brought, the oldest peeked inside his sandwich and asked his brother, "So tell me, what part of the dog did YOU get?" |

Subject: RE: BS: Buda Wiener Dog Races! From: Gurney Date: 26 Feb 07 - 01:35 AM About 40 years ago I went to The Sheepy Magna Country Fair, where Alex Campbell was the guest for the concert. He gave them some stick....."My mates can say they've played Las Vegas, and New York, but how many can say they've played Sheepy Magna, hey?" That was one memorable moment, and the other was (Ta-Rah) A JACK RUSSELL TERRIER RACE. (Bedlington terriers allowed but the only entry was scratched.) The lure was a rabbit which was leaking blood, dragged by a string around a tyreless bike wheel, on an upside-down bike, and had to be, just to go fast enough. You've never seen anything as keen as those little blokes, slavering, glaring-eyed mini-monsters. Greyhounds? Pshaaa. They went into the winning funnel of hay-bales without breaking pace, in a sustained series of thuds, and the officials had to dismantle the bales to find the winner, as only the also-rans could get out again. An ever-fresh memory. |
