Looking for the lyrics to this song which is in French. Starts off:

O, la lune dans le ciel
Les noits....

Any idea where it's from? Zydeco?

Merci !

Thanks for trying, Peace, but what on earth does that have to do with my request for a song by the Buffalo Gals?

Jeeze, I sure screwed that up.

Two stanzas here, but my French isn't good enough to figure out what they're singing.

My friend, Bernie Martin wrote a song called LIVING A LIE soon after getting his Marc Savoy acordion. Bernie passed away a few years back and a tribute album was produced. Swamparella, a Southern Ontario Cajun group did a version of Living A Lie on the album and had one verse translated into French for their version. They also recorded it for inclusion on their next album.
The Peterborough group Bobcajun also performs this song, though I'm not sure if they've recorded it.
I am presently at the public library, so I can't check the names of albums or lyrics, but I'll try to get back to you when I find more info.

Gulliver, I hope this is the same "Living A Lie" that you wanted.

I found the English lyrics, but the French ones elude me. They're almost a direct translation by Miss Nelda Balfa , but my French is pretty rusty.

LIVING A LIE   by Bernie Martin   SOCAN

Well, we fight every morning; we fight every night
And there's a silence so killin' that nothing seems right.
You tell me you love me but I can tell by your eyes
As you walk through the door that we've been living a lie.

When the moon's in the sky with the clouds racing by
You're someplce else and I'm wondering why.
Well you tell me you love me but I can tell by your eyes
As you walk through the door that we've been living a lie.

Bernie played it in D, the key of his acordion and the song has only two chords.

Bernie Martin was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, actor, playwright, poet, painter, story-teller, clown, puppeteer, enviromentalist...who loved life and his work. We lost Bernie in 1995, but he lives on in his songs and poems.
A group of southern Ontario musicians under the direction of his friend Brian Sanderson and his wife Mary Lofthouse put together a tribute CD with 26 of Bernie's songs. Mry later released a CD of Bernie singing his own songs, made from tapes found in his workshop after his passing, called In His Own Voice.

Many thanks for this Jim, also for all the information. I've listened to the Buffalo Gals again and it is indeed a translation into French of the two verses you've transcribed. Pity about Bernie--seems to have been a great guy...
