Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 20 Jun 04 - 04:52 AM Come on you Club Organisers out there, book Jack fer Chrissakes! He may not be as young or pretty as some of the current crop, but what a voice and what a player! He's forgotten more about live performance than most have ever known. His website is http://www.jackhudson.co.uk (Sorry, blue clickie-making doesn't work for me) Advice please anyone?? |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 20 Jun 04 - 04:52 AM Its at the beresford Hotel. You go to the centre of ashbourne, look for a road out to Buxton and there it is. He is support act to an American. I think I put the details on the Jack Hudson gigs thread. Im not sure how you go about getting tickets. Perhaps the beresford would know. Also Pete Thom has given him a gig at Mansfield Folk Club which is at The Brown Cow in Mansfield on Tuesday nights. I think it might be near Christmas, but I haven't got the details. I will post them when i have. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: burntstump Date: 20 Jun 04 - 04:44 AM More gig information required please |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: burntstump Date: 17 Jun 04 - 01:05 PM He gave me a date but was a bit vague as to what he was doing, Is it a festival and who else is on? You can call me what you like as long as it's not sweet heart! |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 16 Jun 04 - 08:14 PM Jack tell me he gave you a date for Ashbourne Festival - when is his hour of glory - shall I call you stumpy, or are you burnt to friends? |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: burntstump Date: 16 Jun 04 - 12:41 PM This thread must not die, keep it alive please |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 05 Jun 04 - 02:24 AM I phone Jack and keep him informed of the thread and and any developments. It would be nice if somehow we could translate our good wishes for this great artist into gaining him some kind of recognition. it is difficult to commit to a gig months in advance at a venue we ain't sure of. personally I am convinced, he needs either a prominent artist to record one of his songs - either that or exposure of his singing talent at a major festival like Cambridge and I don't mean 10 minutes in the club tent. God knows he deserves that spot on the main stage. If anybody out these has access to movers and shakers that book Cambridge, Glastonbury or whatever - that is what Jack really needs. as it is they should be bitterly ashamed of neglecting a voice of such stunning beauty. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Malcolm Bishop Date: 04 Jun 04 - 06:58 PM Hi "Old Mate" Sounds like a good idea to me. Hope it can be arranged. It would certainly be very interesting to get together with a crowd of Jack's friends and supporters.(I suppose someone had better ask him if he's interested!) I saw him at the Brewtown Club last friday and his Sandbach gig a few weeks ago. Both excellent I was a resident singer at the New Xpress music venue near my home here in Dorset for many years and Jack was a regular guest. Sadly declining attendance led to closure 2 years ago. Now I have to travel to see him but more than happy to do it whenever possible. He's in Eastbourne on 4 August. Only a 200 mile round trip this time! Regards Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,an old mate Date: 02 Jun 04 - 05:58 AM Just as I thought, the story never changes, so many people out there shouting the praises of this guy but can't be bothered to get off their butts to go and support him. If you want to wait til he's playing on your doorstep you may have to wait a long time.I would have thought the Brewhouse club would have been full, it's not that big a room. OK lets be possitive, if a Jack Hudson concert was to be organised say for October 2004 somewhere in the Midlands how many people would commit to going and maybe bringing 2 or 3 people with them? This would give 4 months to organise and get the word round.I would be prepared to organise and finance this if there is enough support, maybe we can arrange for a recording of the concert to be taped to satisfy those out there wanting an actual CD of Jack doing his songs in an as he performs them format. Hopefully we could invite club organisers to come and see just how good Jack Hudson is. This could be a way we could all help to get Jack the recogniion he justly deserves. I await your comments. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Dave4Guild Date: 31 May 04 - 03:07 PM I went with Brenda, as I promised. Jack was brilliant, as I expected, and the whole evening was very friendly; fewer people than I might have expected but these Bank Holiday weekends are unpredictable, as any folk club organiser can tell you! Well done to the Brewtown Club. Couldn't have been made more welcome. Regards Dave'n Brenda |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 31 May 04 - 01:52 PM I bet Jack was |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,an old mate Date: 31 May 04 - 01:02 PM not heard any reaction or comments from the Brewhouse folk club last Friday, who went? |

Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 30 May 04 - 03:50 PM No I got him on 104.1 cos I live in the midlands - if you're interested - I taped the ten minutes about Jack - I'll send you a copy. I believe Saga have a website - which I've never seen- perhaps they will play some more if we ask contact me d.whittle@ntlworld.com with your address |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 30 May 04 - 03:16 PM Just realised that's a daft question - presumably it's not a BBC station! Wot a plonker! (LOL) J :0) |

Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Jack Hudson. Date: 29 May 04 - 04:25 PM Dear Mary, I do indeed remember you, your place and your kind hospitality. I was very grateful then and still am and tried to 'pass it on', as you told me to. I'd never seen snowfall like it, on the way to The Chelsea House. You must recall, we had to stay over and had a careful but beautiful drive back the following day. Thanks again Mary. Take care, hope you and yours are well and happy. Love. Jack. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Hollowfox Date: 29 May 04 - 03:35 PM I *thought* this name was familiar. Back about 1977 or 78 he crashed at my basement apartment in Albany, New York, and I gave him a ride to a gig at the Chelsea House coffeehouse in Brattleboro, Vermont. I'd often wondered how things turned out for him. He probably won't remember me, but send him my regards, when any of you folks see him. (Back then I was Mary Linebaugh.) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 28 May 04 - 12:02 PM It works too! Thanks Amos. J :0) |

Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 28 May 04 - 05:04 AM Dave, Jack does still have the 'Epi', but you're unlikely to see it tonight - he regards it as too precious to take to gigs nowadays. Will you wish him all the best from John (Gainsborough) please? I'd like to be there but it's a long drive plus it's our club night tonight. Stewie - look at Jack's website, just do a search on Jack Hudson (I haven't got the hang of blue clickies yet, sorry). His latest album's on there, but his old albums (Headlights & Footlights is the one I remember, but there are others) have gone the way of all flesh now. When will the world wake up to this guy? Johnny :0) |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Stewie Date: 28 May 04 - 04:31 AM wld, if you want to tell "the world" about this bloke, it might be a good start to indicate the details of any CDs he may have recorded and where they may be purchased. My interest has been aroused, but a search of CDNOW, Tower Records etc comes up with zilch. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 27 May 04 - 05:59 PM sadly I won't be able to make it - I've got an angiogram tomorrow and I can't drive after it. My god Dave Bennett there too - I remember you playing at Dave sampsons club at the Roebuck in Erdington - you were pretty flash even in those days. Do you remember that night - there was Mick Stuart and the New Modern Idiot Grunt Band. I ordered a guitar off Rob Armstrong not long after I'd give a lot to be there tomorrow. all the best for a great night |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Dave4Guild Date: 27 May 04 - 03:00 PM I should be able to get to the Brewtown tomorrow. I first met Jack about 36 years ago!! Met him many, many times for some years, but haven't seen him for ages. I assume he's still got his Epiphone Texan - it was his trademark at the time, together with his wonderful laugh and terrific voice. I can't wait to see him again. I'll bring my old Guild D55,'cos he used to love playing it, tho' since I'm not known at the club, I may not get a spot! Dave Bennett |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,a very old mate Date: 27 May 04 - 01:22 PM Interesting to see peoples comments about Jack Hudson, I can recall the Cambridge (Folk)Festival from back in the 80s when he did a spot in the club tent, the only time they would give him to perform was 4 in the afternoon to an audiance of 10! The rest of the night was full of talentless 3 chord time wasters. For some reason there was a reluctance to book Jack at the more local clubs and most of his gigs you would have to travel if you wanted to see him. If ever there was a waste of pure talent then he has to be at he top of the list! Partly down to his stubborn believes and partly down to pure bad luck. Jack would always play at my old folk club at least 3 times a year & the number of new songs he taught me is beyond my recall, Guy Clark, Jimmy Buffet, Lightfoot,Van Zant the list could fill this page. In November 2000 I went to Toronto to see Lightfoot at Massey Hall, whilst there I took a copy of Jacks new CD to Lightfoots office, I went in the afternoon and Lightfoot had been there that morning (again bad luck) I left a copy and requested he listened to the quality of the songs. As far as I know there was never any come back but at least I tried.Jacks own songs are true to life experiences for I know for a fact he has had some very hard times, I think that is why his own penned songs have depth and reality to them. Not seen or heard Jack for a couple of years now but hope to put that right in the very near future.Jack shares a passion for quality American guitars and many a night we used to sit and play, sometimes til dawn or til the whisky bottle was empty.None of us are getting any younger "oh to have sung another song on Susans Floor" |

Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: Big Al Whittle Date: 05 May 04 - 04:59 AM I will do that directly Breezy. Many thanks. I know Jack will be pleased to hear from any other club organisers out there. I'm sure their audiences will knocked out by the astonishing depth and richness of his singing voice, brilliant guitar accompaniments, ace song writing and totally cool choice of material. |
Subject: RE: Jack Hudson From: GUEST,SAM Date: 04 May 04 - 06:19 PM I sent a request to Iain Anderson to play another JAck Hudson song and not only did he read out the E mail but he also -played "If I could only fly!!!
