Hallo all, tell me how much is a train fair from london to mid-Wales? How much is the room ? I have to know so I can go over the moneyside. I have to tell you UK mudcatters that we here in Iceland are holding a festival it is called Bluesky festival held in south Iceland every year 23-24 of june and I am gonna be there with my band Tamóra, there will be more bands from Iceland and Forojar Islands .So if you are wondering about what you are gonna do next year well you are welcome to join us in this festival and help us to do this festival an international one. If you are interesting about this year I got a thread going on it is called BS.Iceland Bluesky festival. I'm wondering wether to hire the hall at the Institute (it's the village hall, i don't know why they call it that!) because the Red Lion is a small pub and it would give us more space. There's a stage, and it might encourage the locals to pop in for a listen.
It is an "Arts and Crafts" peroid building, with a high, raftered ceiling. Looks good, but messes up the accoustics, sometimes. The pub is a 2 minute walk away, and you can fetch beer in.

I think my car is about to terminally fail its MOT. Which means I can maybe justify getting a camper van again. Which would mean we (Mark, Kris & Amoret) might be able to come - if you'll have us. Every cloud has a silver lining!! It would be really nice to meet everyone.

I'm still hoping I can make it. It is amazing to see all the different needs for accommodation. I only have me to look ater and I seem to be like McGrath in my needs - a little bit of shelter and somewhere to put a sleeping bag down suits me fine.

There have been almost 20 people showing an interest, and some have families, so that makes........a lot!
There are three pubs here, the Black Lion where the noisy people go to watch football on the widescreen, the Goat, which is next door but one from me, where everyone looks at you when you walk in, and the Red Lion, where the gathering is to be based. It's only small, but we'll manage. The Goat has B&B, but I haven't asked them yet, because their rooms are more expensive.
Food will be available at Pippins cafe, they are very reasonable, and there is a chipshop. The Red does meals as well, and we are thinking, weather permitting, of having a barbie on the Saturday night, leaving the fire hot enough to cook breakfast Sunday morning.
The weather? well, we can have frost in early September, but very cold weather is not usually till after christmas. We are quite high up, and the town is surrounded by hills, which protect it a bit. TV and radio reception is lousy!!
The area is beautiful in the autumn, and there are some lovely walks. The Centre for alternative Technology is 30 miles away, and if enough people want to go, I can arrange transport.
There is no shortage of beer. The Red has Boddingtons and usually a guest beer.

Is there a big floor space for the loads of us who can rough it a bit? I am hoping to come, but I may have had an operation on my hand. What is the weather generally like at that time of year there? Is a tent worthwhile? (I know- no propmises of fine weather but generally?) I shall be coming (if I manage it) from Cleckheaton all being well. One other thing will the town/village have enough grub and beer (not that I drink it often)?

OK, progress is being made! There is room behind the pub for 3 or 4 tents. Pippins have a caravan for people with sleeping bags who just need a roof and a little space. Buff is talking to the people at the Railway about the possibility of using their carpark for touring caravans.

Keep us posted on the indoor camping possibilities. (That means a floor big enough for a sleeping bag in a building where the rain doesn't come through the roof. I am a man of fairly simple needs.)

This is great!!, the list of people interested is growing fast!
Caravan rentals and campsites are not available within a 5 mile radius of the town, so I'm going to make some enquiries about letting cottages. There are a few within walking distance, and I'll let you know when I find anything out. No-one has booked at either the pub or Pippins yet, so B&B is still up for grabs.

The date of the "gathering" is the weekend of the 14th and 15th of October, although I expect people will want to arrive on the Friday night, which will be our music night. In Llanfair Caereinion (clicky thing earlier in this thread) the main musicians are Simon, who plays and sings blues, David and Jo who are fiddlers and Ian who plays electric and accoustic guitar. I play guitar and sing, being around during the folk revival, and Jim, my husband, plays bass. He likes folk/rock, but, if he has too much strong ale, reverts to his rock roots, and all hell breaks loose!!
Anyone is welcome, musicians and listeners. The Red Lion is not a large pub, but we all manage to squeeze into the lounge somehow. It's very cosy.
Eric, there are 2 numbers inthe thread for B&B, and places to sleep if money's a problem. What else had you got in mind? Contact me if you need any more help.

Marcus Music *is* in Newport Gwent, and a good hour and a half / two hours south of Welshpool. Is there anything desperate you want from there? I've got to take something round to him at some point, and I'll probably also see him at Pontardawe Folk Fest. - he ususally has a stand there.

Looking forward to Welshpool. My family is just north of there ... but I think B&B sounds like more fun!
