Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Skipjack K8 Date: 16 Jun 00 - 04:26 AM What are acoustics, Bron? Are they like the bounce back off the door of the khazi, when the family has banished their struggling musician to the smallest room? Sounds a reet grand idea to me. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 16 Jun 00 - 04:13 AM I'm wondering wether to hire the hall at the Institute (it's the village hall, i don't know why they call it that!) because the Red Lion is a small pub and it would give us more space. There's a stage, and it might encourage the locals to pop in for a listen. It is an "Arts and Crafts" peroid building, with a high, raftered ceiling. Looks good, but messes up the accoustics, sometimes. The pub is a 2 minute walk away, and you can fetch beer in. What do you think? Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 15 Jun 00 - 04:25 AM That would be wonderful, wouldn't it, Shambles, but I suppose transport costs would be prohibitive, as well as the time for people who work. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: The Shambles Date: 15 Jun 00 - 02:56 AM Are there any more non-resident UK folks interested in coming? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 14 Jun 00 - 04:22 AM Excellent, Kris, love to see you. And I don't need to worry about your accommodation!!!! Anyone else getting a camper van??? No-one has contacted Pippins so far, so there's B&B available there. I'm still waiting to hear from the railway people. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,KingBrilliant Date: 14 Jun 00 - 03:01 AM I think my car is about to terminally fail its MOT. Which means I can maybe justify getting a camper van again. Which would mean we (Mark, Kris & Amoret) might be able to come - if you'll have us. Every cloud has a silver lining!! It would be really nice to meet everyone. Kris |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: TerriM Date: 13 Jun 00 - 07:34 PM well, I've got a room in the Red Lion, so as the dear LFU would say " I care not for your predicament Jack, for I am in the dinghy" Actually, of course, I do but I promised him ( the LFU) that I would use that phrase before much time was up...and LO! I have :) |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 13 Jun 00 - 01:36 PM Messages; Peter T-don't be daft!! Wear wellies!! Llanfair-who cares about TV anyway? Skipjack-you cheeky blighter-at least I don't fart!! Ground dwelling is fine with me as well BUT we'd better ask all those Americans who are putting up with Bill if he snores-then he can definately doss down with Skipjack! Cheers. Eric. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Jun 00 - 05:11 AM Just got to check that Folkworks Darlington doesn't clash (it's usually later in the month) but if not, and the memsahib (she of the mean right hook) is in benign mood, I'm up for it. I'll try and hook up with Bill and come over the hill together. But I'm not sleeping near Eric. Those horns hurt! Bron, put me down as a ground dweller. Great idea. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Jun 00 - 02:21 AM Sharing a back seat with the LFU? Pass..... I'll investigate the possibilities of coming en famile - he'll be gagging for it by then, his weekly session just died...... That's music session...... Oh you filthy lot there!! LTS |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Jon Freeman Date: 12 Jun 00 - 07:05 PM I'm still hoping I can make it. It is amazing to see all the different needs for accommodation. I only have me to look ater and I seem to be like McGrath in my needs - a little bit of shelter and somewhere to put a sleeping bag down suits me fine. Jon |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 12 Jun 00 - 06:57 PM There have been almost 20 people showing an interest, and some have families, so that makes........a lot! There are three pubs here, the Black Lion where the noisy people go to watch football on the widescreen, the Goat, which is next door but one from me, where everyone looks at you when you walk in, and the Red Lion, where the gathering is to be based. It's only small, but we'll manage. The Goat has B&B, but I haven't asked them yet, because their rooms are more expensive. Food will be available at Pippins cafe, they are very reasonable, and there is a chipshop. The Red does meals as well, and we are thinking, weather permitting, of having a barbie on the Saturday night, leaving the fire hot enough to cook breakfast Sunday morning. The weather? well, we can have frost in early September, but very cold weather is not usually till after christmas. We are quite high up, and the town is surrounded by hills, which protect it a bit. TV and radio reception is lousy!! The area is beautiful in the autumn, and there are some lovely walks. The Centre for alternative Technology is 30 miles away, and if enough people want to go, I can arrange transport. There is no shortage of beer. The Red has Boddingtons and usually a guest beer. I'm really looking forward to this!!!Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 12 Jun 00 - 04:34 PM I'm really excited now!!!!! I can't wait to see you all :) Do we have any idea of the number of people coming yet? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Peter T. Date: 12 Jun 00 - 04:32 PM If I start walking from Toronto today, I could be there....(splash)....rats. That water was deeper than me!! yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 12 Jun 00 - 04:24 PM Is there a big floor space for the loads of us who can rough it a bit? I am hoping to come, but I may have had an operation on my hand. What is the weather generally like at that time of year there? Is a tent worthwhile? (I know- no propmises of fine weather but generally?) I shall be coming (if I manage it) from Cleckheaton all being well. One other thing will the town/village have enough grub and beer (not that I drink it often)? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 12 Jun 00 - 11:50 AM Wow you have been busy. I'm glad we're not the only ones bringing babies. Save us a space on the carpark! I'm getting quite excited. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 12 Jun 00 - 11:25 AM OK, progress is being made! There is room behind the pub for 3 or 4 tents. Pippins have a caravan for people with sleeping bags who just need a roof and a little space. Buff is talking to the people at the Railway about the possibility of using their carpark for touring caravans. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Jun 00 - 05:32 PM Keep us posted on the indoor camping possibilities. (That means a floor big enough for a sleeping bag in a building where the rain doesn't come through the roof. I am a man of fairly simple needs.) |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 11 Jun 00 - 03:55 PM We need to fit in a buggy, clothes and ourselves, but if you think there is space, thanks! |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: TerriM Date: 11 Jun 00 - 07:41 AM LIz, Steve is coming even if he has to take time off, we can give you a lift if you don't mind sharing the back seat with the LFU and two guitars....? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Jun 00 - 03:42 AM Yo, TerriM - if Steve can't make it, can you take me instead??!! LTS |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 10 Jun 00 - 04:35 PM Ah,Micca, Buff said someone had booked, that's great. I'm still working on other accommodation, there's been a lot of interest! Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Micca Date: 09 Jun 00 - 07:26 PM Bron, I have booked a room in the pub..... |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 09 Jun 00 - 06:40 PM The other problem is getting there. Is there anyone going anywhere near Sheffield/M1/Leeds and have room for two adults and a baby???? and stuff??? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 08 Jun 00 - 02:15 PM What do you mean five miles from the town-we will be the town by the sounds of it!! Cheers. Eric |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Jun 00 - 06:17 PM I'd imagine outdoor camping might be a bit chancy that late in the year. Any chance of indoor camping in a hall or somewhere? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 07 Jun 00 - 06:13 PM This is great!!, the list of people interested is growing fast! Caravan rentals and campsites are not available within a 5 mile radius of the town, so I'm going to make some enquiries about letting cottages. There are a few within walking distance, and I'll let you know when I find anything out. No-one has booked at either the pub or Pippins yet, so B&B is still up for grabs. Talk to you soon, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 07 Jun 00 - 01:02 PM Llanfair, Bill Sables here at Lonesome EJ's computer I would love to come to your gathering and the dates seem OK Cheers Bill |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Micca Date: 07 Jun 00 - 08:08 AM I am trying to negotiate a lift and would hope to attend....will say more closer and contact the accomo. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 06 Jun 00 - 03:13 PM I've stuck a trace on this, which means it's always on my personal page till I take it off. I suggest other people who hope to get tom this might do the same, because we'll be needing to get back to it closer to the date, I imagine. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 05 Jun 00 - 03:23 PM Great, Patrish, it will be great to meet you. Don't you mean "he who is permitted to believe that he is obeyed"? says she with a smile. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 05 Jun 00 - 02:35 PM Eric, I don't get very far without my ducklings trailing along behind. We'll talk at the Jug about the weekend. It sounds as if we might need to hire a marquee even if there isn't a suitable flat bit. I really hope we will get there it sounds great. If it goes well we'll have another next year at the Jug!!! I'm sure Bill would love that. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Patrish(inactive) Date: 05 Jun 00 - 11:51 AM I have not sought permission of he who is sometimes obeyed... but I would love to come Patrish |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 04 Jun 00 - 12:11 PM I'll check it out, Catlin, there's not many places here flat enough for a tent! Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Catlin Date: 04 Jun 00 - 06:00 AM I'd really like to come! I would be bring my bloke and my son. He'll be just 1 in October. Is this ok? Also is there anywhere to camp? Thanks alot :) Catlin |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 03 Jun 00 - 07:08 PM Now THERE'S a good idea. When? Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Richard Bridge Date: 03 Jun 00 - 06:09 PM And on second thoughts (thread creep) perhaps we should have a UK hear me when I am awake. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Richard Bridge Date: 03 Jun 00 - 06:08 PM Not sure the trouble and strife would approve, but a refresh in August might get her thinking! |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 02 Jun 00 - 06:24 PM The date of the "gathering" is the weekend of the 14th and 15th of October, although I expect people will want to arrive on the Friday night, which will be our music night. In Llanfair Caereinion (clicky thing earlier in this thread) the main musicians are Simon, who plays and sings blues, David and Jo who are fiddlers and Ian who plays electric and accoustic guitar. I play guitar and sing, being around during the folk revival, and Jim, my husband, plays bass. He likes folk/rock, but, if he has too much strong ale, reverts to his rock roots, and all hell breaks loose!! Anyone is welcome, musicians and listeners. The Red Lion is not a large pub, but we all manage to squeeze into the lounge somehow. It's very cosy. Eric, there are 2 numbers inthe thread for B&B, and places to sleep if money's a problem. What else had you got in mind? Contact me if you need any more help. Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: GUEST,Rvconnelly@aol.com Date: 02 Jun 00 - 05:50 PM Can anyone come?? is it mainly music and playing or are there a number of singers out there?? |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Kernow John Date: 02 Jun 00 - 05:05 PM Lanfair Marcus Music is part of Tredegar house, Newport. So probably is a way from you. I may have to pass it on the way up from Cornwall so can call in. Thanks for the offer Sian I want Marcus to make pair of matched bows for me for my bowed psaltry. But I'll see him before then at Lowender Peran. Regards Baz |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Eric the Viking Date: 02 Jun 00 - 03:19 PM This sounds a great idea if I am invited and so far the weekends look good. Skarpi you might be better looking to Manchester. It's (only just) possible that I can pick you up as I will have to go right past the airport in the evening on the way down. But don't take that as Gospel yet. Llanfair, are there any more details about accomodation? And can you give a definative weekend date-Also where are you? Mrs Duck will you have the ducklings? Cheers. Eric |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 02 Jun 00 - 02:53 PM To phone the Red Lion, Llanfair Caereinion. 01938 810341. Tell Buff or Ron that you are with the mudcats, because they are not letting to anyone else. They have 2 rooms available, plus an attic room which is not luxurious, but very habitable. Once the Red and Pippins are booked up, I'll look for other B&B's. Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: sian, west wales Date: 02 Jun 00 - 04:35 AM Marcus Music *is* in Newport Gwent, and a good hour and a half / two hours south of Welshpool. Is there anything desperate you want from there? I've got to take something round to him at some point, and I'll probably also see him at Pontardawe Folk Fest. - he ususally has a stand there. Looking forward to Welshpool. My family is just north of there ... but I think B&B sounds like more fun! Sian |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Llanfair Date: 02 Jun 00 - 04:25 AM Hey, Skarpi, we'd all love to see you! You might get transport from those coming from Essex, but otherwise, you could get a train to Welshpool or Shrewsbury, and we can pick you up from there. London is about 150 miles away from here, and might just as well be a different planet!!! Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: skarpi Date: 01 Jun 00 - 07:57 PM Hmmmm this is a good idea, I might come if I can get a good flight fair to London, but someone would have to come and get me there. It coult be a rest for me from all the work. We´ll see what happens. All the best skarpi Iceland. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Jun 00 - 07:48 PM Friday 13th - and it's a Hunters Full Moon that night too(see here.)/I> And a Healers Well? Well, well. That should attract the Ghastly Ghouls that sometimes infest the Mudcat who don't approve of Healing.
It looks pretty atmospheric too...I can see the movie in my mind already. Al things considered, it sound like a weekend to remember (if you get the cahnce to remember...)I hope I'll be able to come. I'll be in touch.

Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: Lanfranc Date: 01 Jun 00 - 07:16 PM Bron, can you post the Red Lion's number, and I'll contact them too. Looks like we can make that weekend, although we may not get there until the Saturday. |
Subject: RE: UK Mudcatters, Autumn weekend? From: TerriM Date: 01 Jun 00 - 06:54 PM The Red Lion sounds favourite, I like the no licensing hours bit, will you find the number for me, pretty please with confectionary on the top?? |
