Well, SW, very well indeed. No need for the abuse, we're all entitled to our opinions, and stating yours in an abusive manner doesn't make you any more or less correct. And if 'registering high with millions' was an automatic guarantee of quality, MacDonalds would be top of the Egon Ronay guide. 'The Sun' is read by a large number of people in the UK, but it can hardly be described as a literature classic.

Obviously we have a few musical geniuses in our midst ; for to call the greatest English Rock Star "Shit" you must be a total legend or are you just another couch potato who sits with beer in one hand remote in the other criticising everyone and everything because underneath all the bluster you are a zero on the scale of life? Whereas John Lennon he rated very high with millions and was deservedly recognised as a genius and one of the all time greatest Britains in a recent poll.Didn't see any of you lot mentioned and if you are not British then you can be forgiven your unfortunate designated lack of taste and intelligent repartiff after all as the great man once said "no long haired son of tricky Dickies gonna soft soap me with just a pocketful of hope".Lennon prevails!

And me, I'm afraid. George Harison wrote the outstanding Beatles songs, but yes, John was the voice of the Beatles.

None of the above. Very limited as a writer, only managed second-rate R&R/R&B or sickly schmaltz (like Imagine/Beautiful Boy/Woman or that god-awful Christmas dirge). I always thought he was the least talented Beatle (apart from Starkey) BUT (and it's a H-U-G-E but!) his voice was THE sound of the Beatles and without him they'd never have received the recognition they did.

Must agree with Mindblast, the man was a wanker. Said that the only reason he didn't come to England anymore was that he had no green card. Spent most of his latter years boozing and making a total prat of himself. Didn't do many gigs simply because he couldn't play live! Despised the very fans that subsidised his life of super luxury in the U.S. The world is a better place without that sort of shit wasting good air & water.

Along with Van Morrison another really over rated, two bob pop star who would have got nowhere if not for the songwriting talent of McCartney & Harrison. Bet you didn't known that most of his solo efforts were actually penned by yoko! I read that in an interview with him in melody maker in about 1971.

Another vote for "Imagine."

I know some of you more cynical types really dislike this song, or at least feel that John, as a multimillionaire, was hypocritical in daring to propose that we "imagine no possessions."

I think that a multimillionaire has as much right to be a visionary as anyone else. If I were fortunate enough and talented enough to tap into the world's consiousness as effectively (and profitably) as John Lennon did, I certainly would not appreciate being told that I had lost my right to continue expressing myself in my art.

You might say that Les and I are dreamers, but we're not the only ones.
