Bill Jones song The Haymakers, on her Two Year Winter album starts with :

It was in the month of July in the rosy time of the year
Down by the flowery meadows, where the water does run clear
........

there are a lot of lads and lasses tumbling around in the hay doing their 'haymaking', while the nightingale sings, they toss the hay about, 9 months later they seem to have babies to look after

I think it must be a hidden message - avoid hay.

BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY

Born on the Fourth of July (DT)

Born On The Fourth Of July · Tom Paxton     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioV_aK5dY-I < BR>

Which would be the most suitable/most directly connected songs for U.S. independence day?

LORD FRANKLIN by Les Barker
Les Barker parody of Lord Franklin (DT)

With a hundred seamen he sailed away
To the frozen ocean in the month of May
His maps were faulty and his compass bent
By mid July he was in Stoke-on-Trent

Claudy by James Fitzsimmons commemorates those who died in a no-warning bomb explosion in the village of Claudy County Derry, Northern Ireland 31 July 1972. The month is mentioned in the first verse.

Brigham Young
They arrived in Salt Lake valley on July the twenty-fourth
A thousand miles they travelled they were very tired of course
Brigham Young was sick, weariness was on his face,
But he raised up on his elbow and said "This is the place."

songs for Bastille Day (14 July)
http://www.top2040.com/2015/07/songs-for-bastille-day-french-revolution.html (mainly pop songs about freedom but first on the list is more directly connected to the occasion, "Bastille Day by Rush. An obvious top choice. The songs rocks out, and the deserves another listen. So we're marching to Bastille Day, the guillotine will claim her bloody prize..."

https://frenchculture.org/music/12057-music-bastille-day

"If you are curious about Bastille Day's traditional songs
This year, to celebrate Bastille Day, we offer you a special playlist with tunes inspired by July 14. Amongst French Revolution songs, you will find Chant du Départ, a revolutionary and war song written by Étienne Nicolas Méhul (music) and Marie-Joseph Chénier (words) in 1794. This song was the official anthem of the First Empire. Nowadays, it is also the regional anthem of French Guiana.

"We also invite you to discover (or rediscover) La Marseille which is the country's national anthem, written in 1792 by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in Strasbourg after the declaration of war by France against Austria. In 1946, in London, the great French jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt improvised a gypsy jazz version of it with the French-Italian jazzman Stéphane Grappelli. A delight for the ears!

2Popular songs about July 14 include Douce France, written by Charles Trénet in 1943; the famous Song of Roland, one of the oldest French epic poem, written in 1083; as well as 14 Juillet (July 14), a song written in 1940 by the Swiss composer Gilles Jean-Villard for the occupied France and sung in 1943 by the French artist Renée Lebas."

The Rigs o' Rye: fine traditional song, which the late Charlie Strachan would sing in ANY month of the year! Surprised that it's not in the DT.
Some nice Scottish folk historical stuff in this clip, including Barbara Dickson singing the song at 3'46":
Rigs of Rye

RIGS O’ RYE (THE)

RYE                                                Traditional
Twas in the month o sweet July
Afore the sun had pierced the sky
Twas in below yon rigs o rye
That I heard twa lovers talkin

The lad said, "Lass, I must away
I have nae langer time tae stay
But I've a word or two tae say
If ye've the time, love, tae tarry"

"Your faither o you he taks great care
Your mither ties up your golden hair
Your sister says ye will get nae share
If ye gang wi me, love, a stranger"

"Let my faither fret an my mither froun
My sister's words I do disown
Tho they were deid an below the ground
I wad gang wi ye, love, a stranger"

"O lassie, lassie, your fortune's smaa
Perhaps it will be nane at aa
You're no a match for me at aa
Gae lay ye your love on some ither"

The lassie's courage began tae fail
Her lips grew wan an her cheeks grew pale
Her tears cam tricklin doun like hail
Or a heavy shower in the simmer

An the laddie he bein o courage fine
He's taen her up an he's kissed her syne
Sayin, "Lassie, lassie, ye will be mine
I said it aa for tae try ye"

An the laddie he bein o courage bold
A lad scarcely nineteen years old
He's ranged the hills an the valleys owre
An he's taen his bonnie lassie wi him

An this couple thae are mairriet nou
An thae hae bairnies, ane or two
Thae live in Brechin the winter through
An in Montrose in the simmer

lots of Orange Irish songs for 12 July such as the Boyne Water and The Sash My Father Wore. Somewhat different, The Ould Orange Flute ("On the 12 of July as it yearly did come, Bob played with his flute to the sound of the Drum"). I expect the aforementioned songs have been posted on the Cat.

THE BALLAD OF HARRY LEWIS by Allan Sherman

The Ballad of Harry Lewis, by Allan Sherman (to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic).

I'm singing you the ballad
Of a great man of the cloth
His name was Harry Lewis
And he worked for Irving Roth
He died while cutting velvet
On a hot July the 4th
But his cloth goes shining on

Recording by Allan Sherman.

The moon is full but my arms are empty
All night long how I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July

YANKEE DOODLE BOY
"The Yankee Doodle Boy", also well known as "(I'm a) Yankee Doodle Dandy" is a patriotic song from the Broadway musical Little Johnny Jones written by George M. Cohan. The song was performed by James Cagney in the 1942 film Yankee Doodle Dandy, in which he played Cohan.

Recording by Jimmy Cagney.

I'm a Yankee Doodle dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam

Can you suggest any songs associated with the month of July ie: (A) Any songs with July in the title (B) Any songs with a July date given in the lyrics (C) Any songs referencing an event that is known to have occurred in July even if the lyrics do not actually say so.
It would be very helpful to have links to performances of the songs and also more sources of information about them.

Come all you jolly mariners that like to take a dram,
Well, I'll tell you of a robber who o'er the seas did come.
And he sent a letter to his king on the eleventh of July,
To see if he would accept of him for his jovial company.
