Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Amos Date: 26 Jul 10 - 08:57 PM Thanks to the intrepid Ernie Johnson, who coined the chorus and impetus, we now have a song for GEtaway 2010. The tune is a raggy oldtimey sorta thang. CHO: Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'm going to the Getaway. Out where the lonesome seagull cries, on the edge of the Chesapeake Bay All the folks stay up all night, Making music 'til the rooster cries, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'm going to the Getaway. I've gone to work most every day The whole dang year it seems Trying to forget the singing sounds That show up in my dreams I've been through bitter winter months And hellish summer days And now by God, I've had enough, I'm going to the Getaway CHO I long to see a country road That leads up the shore With folkies wandering 'cross the fields, Two hundred souls or more. I hunger for the songs they sing And the funny things they say, So mister, stamp my ticket quick, I'm going to the Getaway! CHO I want to hear old Bobert shout The blues when they're done right. And watch Big Mick put the Irish out When he gets a little tight I want to hear sweet Liz LaPrelle Hold the whole place in her sway. By God I'm done with the working life, I am going to the Getaway. CHO When I get there I'll drink all night, And sing a thousand tunes And if I watch the windows right, Catch sight of Ernie's moon! I'll listen to the cowboy songs While the ladies dance and play. Be still my heart, I'm off to start And I'm going to the Getaway! (CHO, turnaround repeat on last two lines) |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Nancy King Date: 20 Jul 10 - 10:39 AM Art, this year's application form is not yet on line. Sorry! We expect to have it up before long, hopefully within a few days. The person who has to get it in is busy putting the FSGW August Newsletter together. Volunteer organizations tend to overstretch the same people a lot! In any case, there's no huge hurry to get your registration in -- any time in the next few weeks will be fine. We're glad you're planning to come! --Nancy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: artbrooks Date: 19 Jul 10 - 11:36 PM OK, I went to sign up. I got as far as the part that says "You can Register Online with your credit card-- just click the Sign Up button below the prices." No prices, no such place. I'm stuck. I did manage to rejoin FSGW, though. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Alaska Mike Date: 17 Jul 10 - 09:20 AM Tawmmie and I will be driving up from Florida and will have room for a north bounder if there is a need. We won't be heading right back however. We plan to scoot over to Michigan after Getaway weekend to visit with the grandkids. Jed, I listened to your song and liked it very much. Mine is called Shenandoah Roll on Home. It tells a bit more of the story including more about the ship's exploits in Alaska. It will be great to meet you finally and share some songs and stories. Mike |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Charley Noble Date: 17 Jul 10 - 08:54 AM I'll probably taking the van down from Maine and I certainly would enjoy company. Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Fortunato Date: 17 Jul 10 - 08:34 AM With Jed Marum joining us and Jerry Rasmussen and his bride, I'm certainly looking forward to this getaway. For Susette and I it's the first time the Getaway will actually be 'away'. It will be good to see Alaska Mike again, the 'barefoot' folksinger. I'm sure meeting Repaire will be an experience. MMario may surprise us with his presence, I understand, as well. Leadfingers Terry is on the bill also. The Getaway must have something with folks willing to come a long way, time after time. I missed the Gordon Lightfoot extravaganza last year, EJ, so please let me know when you're doing that, I want to be there. Hello to all from Hanlon Mt. see you at the getaway. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 13 Jul 10 - 04:30 PM MMario: I did an interesting workshop once of songwriters singing songs written by other songwriters. It was interesting to hear songwriter's commenting on the things that drew them to someone else's song. (Singing Barbry Ellen or Greensleeves wasn't allowed.) |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Alaska Mike Date: 11 Jul 10 - 07:25 AM Jed mentioned the war ship that England sold to the Confederacy. It was the CS Shenandoah and it worked mainly in Alaskan waters trying to wipe out the Yankee whaling fleet. When I tried to find a song about it there were none, so I wrote one that turned out pretty decent. A Civil War song workshop would be one of many that I will look forward to. Mike |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: Lonesome EJ Date: 08 Jul 10 - 01:47 PM Anyone who attended my "Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot" medley of his entire song catalog will be interested to hear that I will again attempt this monumental salute on Saturday of the Getaway. Last year's effort was plagued by technical difficulties, including a broken b string, a swarm of pelicans, and an offshore breeze which blew the lyrics for Old Dan's Records into Chesapeake Bay. I had also failed to allow for the full 7 1/2 hours required for completion, and though I soldiered on after it was too dark to see the music sheets, I must apologize to those who pointed out to me that If You Could Read my Mind does not contain a line comparing the doomed relationship to a disabled rowboat anchored in the Niagara River 50 feet from the Falls. So pack a lunch, bring your laptop or something to read, and we'll meet under the gazebo just north of Worship Isolation Tent. |

I dunno, maybe you could approach FSGW about a house concert during the week before or after the Getaway? Do you use an agent or arrange all of your own bookings? |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2010 News --- Please .. whats on .... From: JedMarum Date: 02 Jul 10 - 05:16 PM I've gotta song about England's so called neutrality! They sold a warship to the Confederacy ... all very onofficial, cloak and daggerish ... they even helped the officers negotiate a safe home to the US after the war. Great story, actually ... I'd love to do a CW workshop of some kind during the weekend. I have new CW project in the works and likely another film ... mustent jinx it by talking too much about it yet - but I am really enjoying the research and writing part of it, that I am doing right now. |
