SOmetimes, these days, the weekends are the only peace there is, and they do not last long enough or appear often enough. Running from Monday to Friday, a full time office job, home tasks, and such, I have to use the first part of my precious weekend just to catch up on sleep, so I can think a little more clearly about what the f*&&^ I am doing.

But it doesn't change the deep deprivation of free choice. I have more than average freedom in the small things. But they are like colored toys thrown into the playpen, when the big issue is when the &^&*^ do I get out of this damn playpen? :D

'COurse, I've learne dby now that there is always greener grass in some other, imagined, situation, and that we are very poor guessers about what will actually make us happy. So I shets ma mouf and soldiers on. SOmetimes I think I would rather be dancing in the valleys of Arcturus.

Saturday morning I start by reading the newspaper. Then in Spring, Summer and Fall I go do work outside. We have a fair amount of land with two gardens, lots of flowers and a small woodlot to take care of.Lots of planting, weeding and pruning to do.
In Winter it's reading and going on Mudcat! Not very exciting but a happy life.Oh yes, in hockey season Saturday night is HNIC at our house.

Jeri,my friend, just for you
So I sit upon the porch in my jeans and leather chaps
Not a saddle in 5 miles for me to sit on
In my cowboy boots so neat
Nestling softly to my feet
and you all can.."......and the horse that you rode in on"

Jeri, great to read about your day today! Think, it needs much energy to buy boots even without stiffness and not being flaccid. What about your wild hair in the evening? Ask this question because all of us are balded, without any gas inside and don't shine like mahogany.
We were really waiting for your message :).

Have a good life,

Manfred

Update (because I know you're all sitting around bored stiff or bored flaccid or something) (Especially you old people):

I got up today with a song in my heart and a wild hair somewhere else. Got gas in the car--stopped at the usual station, but it was $3.46 per gal., so I went back to the closr, non-Canadian station where it was $3.33.

Car filled, I headed off to Concord and got lost for a while until I found the tack and western apparel store. I figured it would take me a few hours to find something that fit which I could live with. I saw the boots, and the first pair I tried on fit and they were the lovely shiny mahogony that I'd been lusting for. The place was having a 15% off sale, they were holding a raffle. (You got a ticket for walking in and then another ticket for every $10.) The drawing is on Saturday and I split my tickets between 2 pairs of work boots. I came home and stopped at a pawn shop, figuring with the way my day was going, they might have a nice lawsuit Tak or an old Martin 00-18 floor $100, but no luck.

I got home to find the station where I bought gas had jacked the price up to $3.47.   All in all, it's been a great day so far and I'm sitting here wearing my new boots, which feel like a nice, snug leather... never mind. They fit like they were made for me, and I want to write a song about second adolescences and cowboy boots.

Hope your day is going as well, even if it's a Thursday.

I have a few years before 60. I was unconfident and careful as a teenager and young adult. Self esteem issues. Fear of looking stupid. Ask anyone who knows me these days and that's not a problem anymore. I figure I've got some wild teenage years coming. Maybe one day I'll get around to 'em. Right now, I need some cowboy boots.

Weekdays are used to rest up from weekends around here. It's gardening season and I'm trying to clear out a bunch of inherited and self-inflicted clutter. Keeps me busy. 60 is a ways off yet. And who can afford to retire?

Well, I'll be 60 in June, so I'm going to weigh in. I'm working full-time also, sometimes over-time. My weekends are mostly playing catch-up with all the chores I didn't have time for during the week, like laundry (yuk), grocery shopping, and assorted errands. Sometimes I even manage to give the kitchen floor a wash. There's a session in Rochester (MI) on the 2nd & 4th Sundays, so I try to go to that. The third Sunday is usually a trivia quiz at the Gaelic League-- our team usually finishes "in the money" at least. I love to go antiquing, but I've pretty much tapped out the antique shops around here-- waiting for the summer outdoor markets to start again. Same with bookstores-- I'm a dyed-in-the-wool mystery story fan.

The only way I know it is a weekend is that the content of the newspaper changes..(Sunday suppliments & comics arrive with the Sat. paper)
(Oh...the other way I know it is a weekend is that Mudcat posts diminish...I guess because you are all off doing weekend things, or only post from work on weekdays! Shame!)

I 'try' to work in my wood shop, getting ready for the next craft show, and occasionally attend some event that happens on Sat ot Sun.

Saturday : my beloved and I go into Market Harborough to shop, and I check out two places which deal in coins. I collect coins and banknotes (rare, few and far between because of their great age ) of the

Irish Free State (Saorstat Eireann). This existed de jure for fifteen years only - 1922 to 1937 - and hence is, as it were, 'frozen in time'

Coffee and cakes at the Farm Shop cafe, and then the weekly veggie shop pending harvesting our own from the allotment.

Hoovering and ironing in the evening for me, while Erica watches CSI and other poxy police shticks, which I can't abear.

Sunday : we stay in bed a bit longer, and have our tea, coffee, toast and Oxford marmalade in bed, joined by the familiars, Maisie (white and tortie pussy cat) and Smwtts (tortie and white pussy cat).

Leisurely ablutions ; a gentle walk (we look out on to rough pasture, where there are four horses), and almost every week alike the grandbrats come to see us. Bliss. If it's fine they will help us or hinder us in

the gardens. If it's wet we will play Snakes and Ladders, or Ludo, or Monopoly, or cards, or poker dice.

I would not swop places with any one, and I would not call the Queen my auntie.

Usually on the market on Saturdays, and jamming there in the afternoons. Rest day Sunday ready for market again on Monday, though I have breakfast with my neighbours on Sunday mornings to catch up with the goss.

Not at the moment, though. I'm confined to the house with a badly broken leg. Can't even get downstairs easily.

I never shop on weekends, too crowded, I'm spoiled since I retired. I can go to the store while everybody's at work. Band rehearsals and performances are generally on weekends, and visiting friends who are still working. And then I go back to doing weekend-like things all week.

The Wolf and I potter about on Saturdays; pop into a local town to shop and visit The Blue Note for the best cappuccino in Herefordshire.

On Sunday afternoons we go to The Bird on the Rock (now called Rock Cottage) for afternoon cream tea. Awefully posh you know.

Ah the joys of living on the Welsh Marches.

I spend the weekends in quiet contemplation and nirvanic bliss. Then just as I start to fall asleep the %$#@^&% pager goes. Usually someone who's burnt the toast and forgot s/he's hard wired to an alarm company who call 911. I love that at 2:00 AM. It's so invigorating to race to the hall and get all dressed up and then find out it's a nothing call.

While we are both underage for this thread,:-) we spend Sat. mornings usually running errands, buying groceries, etc. Morgan may come over and go with us, though last weekend he wore us out, so we've nixed that for a while!

Sundays, we sleep in a little, then clean house after breakfast. I like to give my Rog as much of the afternoons of both days off as possible, so he can just relax, but he's doing most of that time in front of his computer SO...I'm thinking it's time to do some spring cleaning!

One of those afternoons, we might watch a netflix movie IF we can stay awake.:-)

We have to jam in all kinds of gettings together with friends, putting opn a dinner or whathave you; family gatheringas have to occur on weekends, too. Occasional plays, jam sessions, and writing time all end up in the weekend because I am too draggy of ass to do much of them during the week. It's a good thing I don't get any exercise, or I'd have to do that on weekends, too!!

Weekends are generally busier than during the week because that is when a number of the social events we're involved in take place.

Most of what music there is around takes place at the weekend and we will quite often be out first thing on a Sunday morning with the antique car crowd for a spin.

Later Sunday morning is a standing coffee date with one of Kendall's oldest friends - they've known each other for fifty years now - and we head round there to set the world straight when his wife goes off to church.

Then there's yard sale season, always good for a Saturday morning roam around the neighbourhood, looking for bargains, or tacky gifts to inflict on others for Christmas or birthdays.

On Sunday mornings we take Genevieve for a tour, if the weather is decent, and quite often we visit one of my oldest best friends for coffee while his Bible pounding wife is at church.

On weekends I shop, go up into the mountains and hike or something, go to the shooting range, work in the yard, nap, go to church sometimes, go shopping, perhaps go camping, play my trumpet or keyboard...you think I've died or something?

Just thinking about older members/users ( 60+) of Mudcat, I ask myself what they typically use to do on Saturdays or Sundays, to enjoy themselves alone or together with partners.
This is not an very important question and I know, that this circle of people don't need a week-end to relax because there's a whole week to do so.
Nevertheless, I'm mostly interested in week-end habits of my friends on Mudcat.

Thanks.
