Claudia: brilliant! @open mike: I know I am just at beginner's level. @topical tom: I was not sure whether my punny invented term was understandable - I am not a native speaker of English, as Terry Leadfingers already mentioned ... @catspaw: shouldn't that be a 'possum instead of a bunny? |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: topical tom Date: 13 Apr 09 - 01:38 PM I really did know what you meant, MudGuard. I was just funning with you. LOL! |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: Art Thieme Date: 13 Apr 09 - 12:44 PM Me thinks that A sperm bank is just another word for seminary! Now-------lets all oof us try to sing this to the tune of "Me and Bobby McGee." It's possible, but doesn't quite scan. Art |

Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: open mike Date: 13 Apr 09 - 12:37 AM i had the pleasure of doing a video interview with a Ukrainian Pysanky maker...beautiful...the egg i got from her is missed (as it was lost in the fire last summer) see also: http://www.pysanka.com/ http://www.learnpysanky.com/ http://www.cs.unc.edu/~yakowenk/pysanky.html http://tostanoski.com/pysanky.html http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/ukisite/pysanka/pysanka.htm here is a detailed picture of how they are made.. http://eggselegant.qcommerce.com/creation.htm i tried a few too, but made them the traditional way (with the egg intact...yoke and white inside or i guess that is yolk, ) anyway i will insist on blowing out the innards of any others that i make as the ones i made exploded in the attic -- phew!! what a stink... i did get a few chickens from an interewsting breed that lay (notblue and green colored eggs as auaucaunas do) but maroon or brick red-brown eggs...Marans from france http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGK/Marans/BRKMarans.html these are interesting birds... here is another drilled shell http://www.vagabondish.com/stunning-eggshell-art/ |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: frogprince Date: 12 Apr 09 - 09:41 PM Wow; we experimented with psanky a couple of years back, with a kit my wife had had for years. We had fun with it, and still have the nice bright colorful eggs. But I couldn't even begin to touch the quality of her work. |

Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: MudGuard Date: 12 Apr 09 - 04:55 PM "Englishified": maybe the more common (i.e. not invented by me) word for that is "anglicized" |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: topical tom Date: 12 Apr 09 - 03:52 PM MudGuard: Englishified?? |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: frogprince Date: 12 Apr 09 - 03:38 PM Spaw, was that farmer one of your illustrious cousins? 1. How did you find that? 2. Why did you bother? |

Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: catspaw49 Date: 11 Apr 09 - 11:46 PM Nice Eggs but I think I'm still better off when I have help from Farmer Brown and the Easter Bunny working together. Just watch how Farmer Brown Helps the Easter Bunny Lay Colored Eggs!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: Peace Date: 11 Apr 09 - 11:26 PM My best friend works in a sperm bank. They hid all the eggs. Now he's out of work. |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: frogprince Date: 11 Apr 09 - 10:59 PM Now I'm glad I started this, just because I got to see mudguard's eggs; love 'em. |

Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: MudGuard Date: 11 Apr 09 - 07:04 PM Terry, as I learned (read: had to learn) Latin before English, this is discussing my 2nd language in my 3rd, not 3rd in the 2nd. |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: Leadfingers Date: 11 Apr 09 - 06:34 PM Now THAT is what I call SERIOUS Smart Arse ! Discussing a THIRD languages' fine points in his Second Language ! Good on you Andy ! |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: MudGuard Date: 11 Apr 09 - 05:59 PM no, not ovi. If you use the Latin plural, it's ova. ovums is the Englishified plural ... ovi would be genitive singular (plural would be ovorum). |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: topical tom Date: 11 Apr 09 - 05:55 PM Or are they ovi? But seriously, they're really beautiful. |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: MudGuard Date: 11 Apr 09 - 05:35 PM Thanks Amos. What I do not display on my web pages are the many eggs that break during the process ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: Amos Date: 11 Apr 09 - 05:23 PM Thanks--I couldn't believe such delicate results were produced by a Dremel. They're beautiful. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: Richard Bridge Date: 11 Apr 09 - 04:00 PM Surely they should be ova, not ovums. |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: MudGuard Date: 11 Apr 09 - 03:21 PM Sorry, my easter egg page is available in my mother tongue only (i.e. in German) |
Subject: RE: BS: Easter ovums From: MudGuard Date: 11 Apr 09 - 03:20 PM With a shotgun! ;-) no, seriously: with a dremel (you know, one of these hand-held drilling machines) and a 0.5mm, 1mm, 2mm, 2.3mm, 3mm, 4mm, ... drills - at high speed and low pressure. I first drill a hole at both ends of the egg, then remove the eatable stuff by blowing into one end. Then I wash them out, dry them, then do the drilling. For removing the thin skin I put the eggs into a cleaner containing chloride but no acid - that removes the skin but leaves the calcium carbonite untouched. Then I dry the eggs again. |

Subject: BS: Easter ovums From: frogprince Date: 11 Apr 09 - 09:50 AM Here's This Year's Batch. Not that they're spectacular, but a friend put us onto something I hadn't heard of before; the six eggs that show up deeper colored and glossier were shelled first, then dyed in regular egg dyes. |
