It's actually 21 years. Luke died in 1984.

A single memory out of dozens.

I was at the Gate Theatre in Dublin at Dubliner's concert - would have been 1963 at a guess - and when the second half curtains opened the stage was entirely empty. Luke began at the back of the theatre and slowly walked down the aisle singing "Blackwaterside" ("One evening fair just to take the air......).

One of my finest ever moments in folk music. Thanks Luke.

Luke's singing has given me so much pleasure over the last 40 years it's hard to think he's still not around. His voice lives on , and for that we should be eternally grateful. RIP.

One of the finest voices and clearest diction ever produced in these islands. And a lovely man. I'll raise a glass too in memory of many an after hours session...to Luke.
