Ahhhhhh, aren't there allready rules in place to deal with steroid use in sports? Enforce 'um, gol dangit...

I'm not too sure why the Bush administration wants to get everyone all lathered up into a frenzy over this issue but you can bet that one of his PR people has done some sampling and polling and figure they can use this isssue as yet another distraction to divert their continued pillaging of the working class...

This should be a non issue...

(But, Bobert. Don't you remember that Bush once owned the Texas Rangers and prolly is still mad at having to pay the players over minimum wage...)

Yeah, didn't he run that franchise into the gutter just as he has run every business that his daddy has given him into bankruptcy?

Yeah, like I said, Baseball has rules. Enforce 'um.

Bobert

If they go before the committee and it is ever proved that any of these guys lied to Congress, then their butts are fried. There is absolutely nothing good about these hearings for any of them, and when you look at the list of those subpoenaed, even this non-fan of baseball recognizes cherry-picking when she sees it. That said, WTF does the Congress want to do this for? Sleight of hand to distract everyone from what Dubya is doing in Iraq, or threatening in Iran or Syria? Or someplace else? Or some other natural disaster, like meddling with Social Security? (The only trouble Social Security is in right now is that Dubya wants to find a way to divert billion$ to his friends in the private sector for those "private accounts.")

There is a Congressionally mandated and approved exemption from prosecution as a monopoly for major league baseball. It allows them to operate pretty much as the leagues see fit, and the owners are scared to death that Congress is gonna lift it. Personally, I don't see why it shouldn't be revoked....

Whenever the Government gets itself involved with an issue like this, red flags should go up. Mostly likely, this will be a photo-op for members of the Committee. It will be interesting to see how many of these people try to make a name for themselves, or whether any of this smacks of McCarthyism.   However, having said that, MLB has no one to blame but themselves for the situation they now find themselves in. There's no doubt in my mind that many GM's, including Commish Budlite, knew what was going down with the number of their players indulging in steroids. But the bottomline in sports is to win. Ergo, they swept all this under the rug for years. It's ironic that the 2 home run guys who saved baseball after the strike, namely Sosa and McGuire, could be implicated. They'll be more names come out of the closet in the weeks to come as the investigation continues, so it should be interesting to see just how messy this gets. Furthermore, the steroid issue will most likely be under examination in other major league sports. Knowing the possible harmful effects effects of steroids on their bodies, the players have really no one to blame but themselves, but it's the lure of big money. Steroids can't make a player hit a curver, slider or heater any better, but when they connect, 370 outs become 400 foot dingers. My question is whether Gary Bettman or Bob Goodenow are on the juice?

So Congress has subpoenaed a bunch of steroid-use-related documents from Major League Baseball. (STORY HERE)

I wanna know why it's an issue with which Congress should concern itself. Are overpaid beefed-up jocks who are shortening their lifespans and shrinking their gonads a threat to national security?

Not that it's not an issue worthy of someone doing something about, but why a Congressional investigation? Is it really their job? If laws have been broken, let the cops investigate, let the prosecutors prosecute, let the offenders in jail, and let my asshole Congressman (for whom I did not vote) get back to doing what I'm reluctantly paying him to do.
