Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 25 Mar 03 - 05:38 PM This event is open to anyone who wants to come, within reason (no terrorists, no viscious dogs, etc) I am also inviting the folks on Pal Talk, the local folk music society, the old time fiddlers, contra dancers, and those who attend the music jams at the local cafe, and people from area folk music radio show --no membership cards to any certain organization required! And not strictly mud cat members, either. |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 25 Mar 03 - 05:41 PM Ha! And I was thinking, "Hmmm... I wonder if as many as 10 people will show up?" :D |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Genie Date: 26 Mar 03 - 12:45 AM OK, so is this a definite "go?" And when does the 'camp' officially open? I need to buy a plane ticket by the end of this month (to save $), and I need to know whether to make Portland, OR, or the bay area my take-off point. (I'll drive from Portland to the Bay area if the gathering is really gonna happen, and fly to southern CA from there.) Genie |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 26 Mar 03 - 02:13 AM this is at a public campground so it is available any time you want to show up...I am going to be organizing a community blood drive and other stuff so i am not sure if i will be able to make it friday or not. Hard to tell what will be happenig that far ahead of time. I will try to make it friday night. I guess we should organize some pot luck, or other plan? I can bring barbeque grill and such, though i don't care to eat meat, but i can't tell others what to eat! I hope we will all eat, drink and be merry!! If anyone has any ideas about how to plan meals, tasks, or other essentials, let me know!@ otherwise we can do it completely free-form and hope for the best. There are picnic tables there, and a shelter for the tables. and i can bring my r.v. and an extra tent or two . Portland is about 10 hours away, san fransico is about 4 hours. We have plenty of time to plan specifics, i just wanted to circle the weekend before it got filled up with other activities...keep in touch... |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 26 Mar 03 - 02:20 AM I'll bring fresh veggies (great on the grill) and such; I can hit the farmer's market on Friday morning next to my office. There should be a plethora of good stuff by early June. I think as long as folks know to bring stuff and we get the basics covered, we'll be fine. It's not like there won't be a grocery store down the road if we really need something. |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Amos Date: 26 Mar 03 - 12:55 PM I think I'll bring a pound of sirloin, a pound of French Roast and a fifth of Glenlivet single-malt. That ought to see me through the weekend! :>) A |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Genie Date: 26 Mar 03 - 05:09 PM What? No chocolate?!! |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 27 Mar 03 - 12:14 AM The closest store is 6 or 7 miles away, and has basic stuff, nothing fancy, no sprouts for instance. It takes about 15 minutes to get there. Next closest are in town--Oroville, Paradise and Chico are all nearly an hour away..so you might want to come with supplies unless you want to commute to the store or town..the Dome Store or Canyon Lakes Market is at the corner of highway 70 and Concow Road. There is also a hardware store, post office and "mini-mart" just east of that intersection on hiway 70. I am making up invites to pass around at the old time fiddle contest and other events between now and then so we should have an interesting group. yipee! B.Y.O.C. (bring your own chocolate) |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 27 Mar 03 - 07:53 PM Latest info: a neighbor with a G.P.S. unit finds the campground to be located at this latitude and longitude: 39.46.25 north latitude and 121.30.28 west latitude. The elevation is 2,090 ft. Just so no one ends up in Butte Montana trying to find us! I'll refresh this thread again in another month or so--a bit before the gathering..and if anyone wants me to e-mail a reminder or invite, contact me at veraloe@cncnet.com. |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Just Amy Date: 27 Mar 03 - 08:18 PM Gee, this sounds like a lot of fun, but my idea of roughing it is when they don't chill the salad fork! |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: duuuude Date: 28 Mar 03 - 04:41 PM Sounds like a great way to wind-down from Strawberry! |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 05 May 03 - 12:13 AM I have invited fellow musicians from our local folk music society as well as pal talk people and mud cats. I'll see if I can get a copyu of the invitation/announcement posted on the web for folks to access for further information, map, etc. It is coming up in a month, so i thought i would refresh this as a reminder. I hope some of you can make it! I look forward to meeting you in person.Laurel |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 05 May 03 - 12:10 PM I was definately coming, but now it looks like life may interfere. I can no longer say for sure, but I'm still gonna try to get there for at least a day. |

Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: michaelr Date: 05 May 03 - 09:55 PM So the camping spots are reserved already? All I have to do is show up? Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 06 May 03 - 12:14 AM The camp ground is a small family-owned, private space. they will have the main pic-i-nic pavillion reserved for us, and the spaces are not all marked out or paved, just a bunch of spaces by a mountain lake, in the tall trees. very casual. not plug-ins or running water at each site, but then a great place to get away from t.v., traffic, pollution, and city lights and noises!! and make music!! if you have any other questions, feel free to ask! |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: GUEST,Al Date: 06 May 03 - 12:24 AM My wife and I are both turning 50 in June. Maybe this will be our birthday party. It's still June 6,7,and 8, right? Al in Georgetown |

Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 07 May 03 - 04:38 AM Feel free to forward this invite to musicians who might want to join us! |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 07 May 03 - 09:47 PM Hmmm. I'm starting to get the impression that I should leave the fiddle at home and pretend like I don't pretend to play sometimes. Or I can play an A and an E and a D -- hey, I'm a guitar player now! It's no fair if *everyone* there plays better than me. ;) Can we invite a few duds, too? |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 12 May 03 - 03:38 PM coming up in a little more than 3 weeks... |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 12 May 03 - 04:37 PM for some reason the link to our local folk music society in a previous message in this thread leads to a dreaded "404" page try again here... info on the june gathering should be on the calendar there in the next couple of days. (by the way, i have trouble accessing the links on the BFMS page thru netscape, but they work on Internet Explorer) |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Amos Date: 12 May 03 - 04:55 PM THis is scheduled for the WE of June 7th, as I recall. I am sorry to report that lifehas raised a Yewgly brow and will probably prevent me from getting up there, guys. If so, remember me in between rounds!! A |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: michaelr Date: 12 May 03 - 08:26 PM Dang it, Amos! I was looking forward to meeting you! Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 12 May 03 - 08:36 PM Amos, I'm crushed. And here I was doing some serious schedule-bending to try and make it up there... |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 13 May 03 - 12:46 AM what's a Yewgly brow? |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Amos Date: 13 May 03 - 09:29 AM Yewgly, adj. : not aesthetic, unattractive, having no bodacious beauty -- YEWgly. Brow: part of the face, or head. Nicole,me too -- it'll have to be Balboa Park then, after you move? I am so sorry. There is a ray of hope that the schedule will shift. MichaelR, mutual I am sure. But if it is any help I am exactly the person in real life as I seem to be on the threads here....UH oh!!!! :>) A |

Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Coyote Breath Date: 14 May 03 - 09:11 AM Oh this sounds almost too good! Butte county is very beautiful, especially in June. I'll be in Yellowstone all summer (we open June 7th). My sister lives in Nevada City. I probably can't make it but I'll alert her and her husband and their folkie friends to the date and perhaps they can go up there. Concow, Indian name? CB |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 14 May 03 - 01:04 PM What do you do in yellowstone (jellystone?) the Concow tribe is a sub-tribe of the Maidu Nation, Neighbors of the Paiutes to the East, Yana and Wintu to the North, Pomo to the West, and I think it is the Nissenan to the south. IT is only a coupole of hours from nevada city. I often go there on the back road past Bullard's Bar Reservoir. If they are in the North SanJuan Ridge area, this route is easy. and a beautiful drive. Ahh0thr fragrance of Kitkadizzy fills the air on the Yuba river side! |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 15 May 03 - 04:42 PM Actaully this is 2 weekends after strawberry music fest! (Wild Iris Festival in Booneville is on may 30,31, June 1) rsvp to me at veraloe@cncnet.com to let me know if you will be planning to come. Some mentioned wanting to come on Fri. If so, I can go and set up that day, so that those arriving then will find the campground ready for their arrival! I haver been posting invites on Paltalk and passing out fliers locally, so hope to get a good mix of musicians! And listeners. I also have just received a bunch of Mud Cat patches and order forms for t-shirts and c.d.'s so we can find a way for this get together to benefit the 'CAT ! There may be a paltalk member flying in to sacramento and looking for a ride up....any car pool room available? |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 15 May 03 - 04:52 PM I live in Sacramento and can offer a ride. I *MAY* have rough drafts of the cookbook by then, or at least a big part of it. (I have 69 pages done... twice that many to go...) |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Coyote Breath Date: 16 May 03 - 02:20 AM Nancy and I are campground attendents up at Canyon Lodge Campground @ 8,000 feet, elevation. We get to open the campground and shut it down for winter (which comes in short samples occasionally during the season). We'll also be doing some "unoficial" campfire singing and playing. It's a 'working' vacation. Naw not on North San Juan ridge, they are up Red Dog Road towards Banner mountain but they are mobile. Sister plays the autoharp, brother-in-law plays guitar also builds them as hobby. He's a Scot frm the Far North (Canada-eh). Nice folks. CB |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Genie Date: 16 May 03 - 04:16 AM Hey, Nicole. I'm not sure I can come, but if I do, I may fly to the Bay area and want to get a ride from there or from Sacramento. If I do, what day are you planning to go to the camp site and what day return? My e-dress is jeanenepratt@onebox.com and my phone # is 503-777-2885 or 866-841-9139x4100 (toll free). Jeanene |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 16 May 03 - 11:18 AM I haven't decided what day yet, but I will be happy to do taxi duty in Sacramento; and maybe SF, depending on when it is and if I can get over that way. I may leave Friday night, either that or Saturday morning. Folks are also welcome to crash at my place overnight if needed the day before or after. The cat loves company. It's a small place, but there's always room on the floor. I will be out of town until next Sunday, but feel free to email me with any details at nicolecastle @ attbi.com (without the spaces in it.) |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 17 May 03 - 12:12 AM if there is any other sacramento area vehicle with room, there may be another person or two flying in from southern californa. some of the folks who come to my paltalk room want to join us!! i have sent the e-mail address to nicole, too. but i am sure thert ewon't be room for every9one in her car! yippee this thing is taking shape... |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 18 May 03 - 03:38 PM if anyone is going to Strawberry, stop by the Dung Beetle Camp and we can get acquainted before the june gathering! Our camp is on Shady Grove between Hog Ranch ( i think there is a rd. near there but not listed on the map called Oak Knoll) and Yosemite Trails. here is a link to our signs beware of dung beetles there used to be a link to a map of the camp grounds there where people marked where there camps were located, but i do not see it now. |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 21 May 03 - 03:02 PM the mud cat patches have arrived and also order forms to get mud cat shirts.. so i will be prepared to have this get together benefit the 'CAT! see you there! feel free to send any questions to my pm here or to veraloe@cncnet.com |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: Joe Offer Date: 31 May 03 - 12:50 AM Since Mudcat will be down for a while, it might be a good idea for people attending the gathering to send their e-mail addresses to Open Mike so we have communication if we need it. I'm Joe-Offer@msn.com, if anybody needs me. I'll get there sometime Saturday. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 31 May 03 - 05:35 AM i want to refresh this once more before the cat takes a cat nap my e-mail is veraloe@cncnet.com--keep in touch and see you there.. |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: open mike Date: 31 May 03 - 06:51 PM please do e-mail me if yo want to be on the list of folks who plan to attend. I was going to mention that i think it might be fun to do a pot luck burrito bar for sat. lunch....tortillas, cheese, beans, rice, sour cream, avaocados, salsa, celantro, etc. could be fun! I can bring some giant tortillas to wrap it all up in... also i will suggest that spaghetti might be a good item for Sat. eve. meal. sauce ingredients could be shared-- mushrooms, peppers, tomato sauce, olives, parmesan cheese, etc. and salad. and garlic bread... (no meat for me, please, but could be added for those who require it,..). What does any one think of this idea? there is a cafe a few miles away if folks don't want to do food prep. dish washing, etc. There are fire pits available at the camp ground. let me know if you have any questions...Laurel |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 04 Jun 03 - 11:15 PM Your email is bouncing Laurel, but I plan to attend this weekend. Community food is generally out of the question for me, as I'm deathly allergic to onions. Ya'll have fun with spaghetti and such and don't mind me, as I'd rather not be making any trips to the hospital. I planned to bring some zucchini and other squashes for grilling plus some buffalo burgers and corn on the cob. (Enough to share some.) Provided we have a grill up there...? Open flame is fine with me, but do the firepits have grills over them? If I have time Friday afternoon, I will gather the stuff for my awesome onion-less guacamole. AFAIK, I am not giving anyone a ride or providing Sacramento hospitality. Speak now, or you'll miss out. So, is this shenndig happening Friday eve or not until Saturday morning? |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: michaelr Date: 05 Jun 03 - 08:40 PM The Mrs. and I will be there sometime Friday afternoon. Hope we're not the only ones! Laurel, will you be there? Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: West Coast Mudcat Gathering Planning From: NicoleC Date: 05 Jun 03 - 10:04 PM Well, if you'll be there Friday, Michael, I'll try to get there Friday, too. Got some house-selling stuff to take care of, though -- we'll see how long that takes. |

And i hope we all have a good time... any one is welcome, whether they make music or appreciate it...i t will no doubt be atl least 20 degrees cooler at the lake than in the valley, and temps are predicted to be in the triple digits this weekend in the valley!! |
