Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Rapparee Date: 18 Dec 03 - 09:24 AM I'm not going to let any of Them Folks Over The Water do a one-up on Idaho and like that! Besides, I don't care who knows my name -- John Ashcroft, Spaw, or anyone! I used to do business here as "Rapaire" but I've escaped the King's soldiers and no longer fear swinging as a highwayman. Joe -- I did it right! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: John MacKenzie Date: 18 Dec 03 - 09:33 AM Yes Guest I am that John "Jock" MacKenzie, just as ugly, and a lot older. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 18 Dec 03 - 09:38 AM Hmmmmmmmmm...is there are conspiracy or something here? Two of my Santees are coming out so to speak! Welcome John and Mike! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Rapparee Date: 18 Dec 03 - 09:41 AM I used to perform as third trumpet in my high school band.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST,MMario Date: 18 Dec 03 - 09:48 AM well - probably more people know me as "MMario" then know me as "Leo" at this point - and it *IS* one of my legal names. (without the extra 'M') And I've done a complete turn-about from my childhood where I dislike the name Mario - I now prefer it. my former most common nickname is hard to pronounce as it has no vowels. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Rapparee Date: 18 Dec 03 - 10:31 AM My nickname is hard to pronounce too, at least in polite company. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: catspaw49 Date: 18 Dec 03 - 10:48 AM And so who the fock are you Guest? Jizzy Jagov? What's with this name changing crappola? We get to know people as who they are and not by having to know their name. Almost everyone who uses a screen name around here becomes known as that person and in most cases as time goes by we learn all kinds of personal details of their lives including their real names. But even more important, we learn of their lives and loves and hopes and dreams and joys and sadness and.........NONE of that has a damn thing to do with what name they use on the screen. So now, yet another trolling/flaming Guest Dork throws up the old thing about a screen name being the same as being anonymous.....And every swinging dick in the joint knows that the whole thing is just another way of trolling. Hey Anonymous Guest(s)......Fuck You. Knowing Giok or Rap by their real name doesn't make them any better......I learned to like them without that....as opposed to most of you who ain't got jackshit better to do than muck about here stirring the pot. Who am I? I'm Spaw. I've been Spaw for years. When other 'Catters talk to me in person or by phone, they don't call me Pat, they call me Spaw. As for hiding anything? Anonydorks, you can find the absolute most intimate and personal details of my life on these threads, my innermost thoughts and feelings. The 'Cat is a place where I live, a kind of home, where I have shared that by choice because most of these folks are friends in one way or another. But you get to know all of that too....and that's okay, I don't care. You can find not only my name and all of the boilerplate stuff, you can find links to pictures of assorted surgeries. But to intimate that anything in using a screen name is the same as being an anonymous shithead like yourself is completely ridiculous. Rapaire was and is as real to me as Mike. Whatever he wants is fine. Whatever you want can suck an owl dick. Feel free to bitch about me flaming you when you get crap about flaming. Or me trolling when you get complaints. Yeah....It's me....Spaw....Member of the Inner Clique.....all that stuff........Feel free to gripe, but first kiss my ass! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST,MMario Date: 18 Dec 03 - 10:54 AM You know the thing I like best about 'spaw? He is so understated and subtle! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST Date: 18 Dec 03 - 10:55 AM |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Dec 03 - 11:00 AM Has there been a GUEST in this thread that got edited out? The only anonymous GUEST in this thread doesn't match up with spaw's reaction - he or she just asked a straight question to which the answer was "Yes". In fact it read more like someone who has just posted as a GUEST accidentally because their cookie had gone walkabout. Mind, like spaw, I tend to feel pissed off with people who post as nameless GUEST on purpose - but then I suppose that's why they do it, they like pissing people off. Mind there are people it's fun to piss off, but generally it's better to do it on a more selective basis, I think. I always thought Giok was rather a good way of spelling Jock. As for Catherine Jane Pettigrew - that's a marvellous name. Makes you sit up and take notice a name like that.
-Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Catherine Jayne Date: 18 Dec 03 - 11:10 AM Why thank you McGrath. I don't think I will change my handle though as the majority of people know me by it when we go to gatherings etc.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Rapparee Date: 18 Dec 03 - 11:36 AM Heck, I was thinking about doing it anyway. I really was. I even put my address in the registration thingy so that everyone can send me money (it's a PO Box, so you have to contact me to find out where I live and then I can lie about it if I want to and send you to the cop shop instead -- when you go there, ask for "Big Ed") and stuff. Besides, if it's good enough for Seamus or Art or Kendall, why, heck, it's good enough for me, I guess. Not that I'm in the same league as they are.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Mrs.Duck Date: 18 Dec 03 - 11:49 AM I don't really want my full name put out on the internet as apart from anything else it is an unusual one and therefore extremely easy to find in a national phonebook! Besides even those who knew me way before Mudcat dubbed me Mrs Duck as soon as I joined forces with Geoff and he has been 'the Duck' for nigh on 20 years. Just my personal feelings but I am happy to converse with Giok/John MacKenzie in all his guises. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Amos Date: 18 Dec 03 - 12:18 PM A rose by any other name Would still cause some people to whine About floral discrimination. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: John MacKenzie Date: 18 Dec 03 - 12:49 PM Like Mike I too had considered this move a couple of times, and the GUEST as beautifully described by Spaw merely made me think again. As you can see from an earlier posting, someone has recognised me by my given name, from way back when. Mind you I probably owe him or her money, and may live to regret the transmogrification. Still; nice one Spaw! John |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 18 Dec 03 - 01:32 PM Well, I LOVE my Mudcat name. Since I frequently like to assume the persona of an ignorant, inbred piece of poor-white trailer-trash from the wastelands along the Florida/Alabama border Whadda ya mean "assume the persona"? Is that like "pretend"? You mean you're really NOT a dumbass redneck? Heeyar, hyuck, snorf, snarble! Bullshit!!! I find it advantageous to affect the "initials as name" tradition as carried on by many of my rural neighbors. People named "Bruce" do not drive monster four-wheel-drive pickups that can snatch Abe Lincoln's face from Mount Rushmore. People named "Bee-dubya" do. I'll give up my Mudcat name when they pry my keyboard away from my cold dead hands! That's tellin' 'em, Bee-dubya. You da man! Ennybody don' like it, we'll jus' open up a canna whoopass on them sumbitches! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Rapparee Date: 18 Dec 03 - 01:37 PM I hope nobody recognize me from something I did in the past.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: C-flat Date: 18 Dec 03 - 02:07 PM I did think about changing my Mudcat name after getting to know one or two other members in 3D. The initial decision to use a "handle" was based on the fact that most others here don't post under their own names and, having no experience of using other discussion forums, I wasn't sure what I was letting myself in for. After a couple of years of visiting this site, sending and receiving PMs, etc, I have no problem with using my real name, Merrick Hamilton, (mother had a great sense of humour), but equally find that the Mudcat handles work just as well and I don't feel that I know someone less well just because they haven't told me their name. There are some regulars here who could be picked out by the content and style of their postings under any handle. C-flat. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Bill D Date: 18 Dec 03 - 07:01 PM well, (My very first online moniker was "ßidét", which was Bill Day using the OTHER combination of initials. You can imagine how long that lasted, and the witty commentaries on it...)...so, having used up all my cleverness 7+ years ago, Bill D it is now... "There are some regulars here who could be picked out by the content and style of their postings under any handle." ...surely not by excessive use of ellipses...hmmm? |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Bill D Date: 18 Dec 03 - 07:07 PM durn! that's 'ellipsis'...... or in my case, just lots of dots (it sort of indicates how I visualize the thought processes and pauses to consider the next bits.....probably a bad habit, but so are cyber-farts! ;.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: catspaw49 Date: 18 Dec 03 - 07:41 PM I dunno' Bill.....I think we at least tie on ellopsis.........But I know I have you going away in the flatulence department....... THIRD FLOOR....Ladies Undergarments, Men's Shoes, Gross Flatulence.....ALL OFF FOR THE THIRD FLOOR! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 18 Dec 03 - 07:51 PM It's bad enough for me getting a definite "mental image" of someone over the net anyway, but all this name changing is a nightmare - at least though it is better than just "GUEST"... Robin |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Peace Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:02 AM A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but a chrysanthemum by any other name would be easier to spell. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Doug Chadwick Date: 19 Dec 03 - 02:44 AM My Mudcat handle is Doug Chadwick but my real name is Doug Chadwick. Following John & Mike's example, I'm going to change my Mudcat handle from Doug Chadwick to Doug Chadwick. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 19 Dec 03 - 05:46 AM For goodness sake, Doug, or Doug, I can only just cope with John and Mike, but now I've got to remember you're Doug, and not Doug any more. I had only just got used to Oakley becoming Oaklet. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST,Teribus Date: 19 Dec 03 - 07:27 AM Best name change story I have ever heard was where a guy got overdrawn on his bank account with the Yorkshire Bank Plc. He was overdrawn by about £10.31. The bank sent him letter drawing his attention to the matter and charged him £25 for the letter. Now £35.31 overdrawn, this guy changes his name by deed poll to "Yorkshire Bank Plc are greedy, thieving bastards". He advised the bank of his change of name and asked them to issue him with a cheque book, they replied that they no longer wished to retain him as a customer. He then sent them a money order for £36 to settle his account instructing them to send him a cheque for £0.69 made out in his new name. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Madame P At Work Date: 19 Dec 03 - 09:05 AM Mmmmm, yes. I called myself Lady Penelope ( yes I know it says "Madame P at work" but I was in a hurry and I can't remember the pass word for my work cookie ) because : a) some one was already registered as Penelope and I hate just tacking a number on afterwards. And b) Because I am actually named after the Thunderbirds puppet and I may as well get some mileage out of it......... I just love the Pettigrew, Cat! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Cluin Date: 19 Dec 03 - 11:19 AM Since there's already a fine example of a Rick here, I'll just stick with "Cluin". |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: nutty Date: 19 Dec 03 - 11:59 AM my real name is Hazel but I've been called Nutty since schooldays, so am very comfortable with the name and as it's what the majority of Mudcatters know me by, I think I'll just stay as I am. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 19 Dec 03 - 12:11 PM Ever since I came on Mudcat, in about '98 or so, I've signed my right name to every message I posted, I think. At first, just for consistency's sake, I used the handle of Doesterr, because that was a name assigned by the computer net at work. But I signed every post with the full name. A while back, Paltalk prevented my using Doesterr because "someone else" actually me) was already using it, so I called myself Uncle DaveO there, and so, again for consistency and for cross-platform recognition's sake, I adopted that handle here. And I still sign all messages with.... Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Bob Hitchcock Date: 19 Dec 03 - 04:25 PM I hear that John Wayne Bobbitt has filed to have his name legally changed, to Les Johnson..... |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: GUEST Date: 19 Dec 03 - 06:12 PM Hey, are you the Miks Doellman from NOrthern Kentucky who fathered my six children!!!!!!!!! WHen I get my hands on you I will....I am buying a bus ticket for Idaho today!!! I will be out there to stuff that trumpet where the sun doesn't shine buddy! |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Bill D Date: 19 Dec 03 - 06:16 PM well, hello there Bob....now just wait to see what this band of reprobates does with YOUR name...*grin* |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Rapparee Date: 19 Dec 03 - 06:24 PM Yeah, Guest. That's me. I only lived there for about three years, but I'm a fast worker, I am. Come on ahead, but I have to warn you about the bus station here. It's full of hard, hard cases, guys who...never mind...they're all sweet fellas. The best thing for you to do is to tell them that you like them an awful lot.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Little Hawk Date: 19 Dec 03 - 06:35 PM Right on, Spaw. I like people's "handles" on this forum, one gets fond of them. Everyone around my place (meaning me, the 2 dachshunds, the hamster, and the chimp) has been weeping unconsolably since Rapaire changed his membername! It's shocking and deeply disturbing. I am, in fact, worried that this Mike Doellman character is someone who's done away with Rapaire and stolen his identity! Why would anyone do that, you ask? Well, it's simple. Mike Doellman wanted to co-opt all of Rapaire's brilliant writings on this forum and pretend that HE was the genius-level mind behind them, then copyright it all and make a fortune! It's a filthy plot, and I won't stand for it. Even though Rapaire is probably gone...dare I say it...forever, we the membership of Mudcat must see that his name does not vanish into obscurity. The WSSBA is going to hold a fundraising event on Sunday, selling lime green bumper stickers that say "Rapaire Lives!" for $15 each, and I hope all Mudcatters will attend and buy at least 5 of them. Makes a great Christmas present! - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Name Change From: Amos Date: 19 Dec 03 - 06:41 PM I am fond of my Mudcat handle also and intend to retain it. It is very similar to my real world name, to avoid any confusion, :>) A |
