Subject: ADDPOP: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Mar 10 - 01:36 AM It's a great song. For the record, here are the lyrics, obtained from The Financial Services Club Blog which also has a link to a YouTube video. And while I realize it was chords that were requested, we have a tradition of also providing lyrics. -Joe- Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed (as recorded by Show of Hands) (Songwriter: ?) All I wanted was a home And a roof over our heads Somewhere we could call our own Feel safer in our beds There was a storm of money raining down It only touched the ground With a loan I took I can't repay And the crock of gold you found At every trough you stopped to feed With your Arrogance, your Ignorance and Greed. I never was a cautious man I spend more than I'm paid But those with something put aside Are the ones that you betrayed With your bonuses and expenses You shovelled down your throat Now you bit the hand that fed you Dear God I hope you choke At every trough you stopped to feed With your Arrogance, your Ignorance and Greed. You're on your yacht, we're on our knees Through your Arrogance, your Ignorance and Greed. Toxics bring you tact and soul Poisoned every watering hole Your probity, you exchanged for gold Working man stands in line The market sets his price No feather bed, no golden egg No one pays him twice To enter thrift and caution Your only sound advice You know you doubt yourself and meaning And alone at every dice At every trough you stopped to feed With your Arrogance, your Ignorance and Greed. I pray one day we'll soon be free From your absolute indifference Your avarice, incompetence Your Arrogance, your Ignorance and your Greed. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: Ian Hendrie Date: 15 Mar 10 - 06:41 AM Many thanks Phil. Just to complete the info perhaps we should state that this was, I believe, written by Steve Knightley. Just watched this BBC interview. I think I've just been added to their hoards of admirers - they talk and sing a lot of sense IMHO. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: GUEST,KP Date: 15 Mar 10 - 07:00 AM I think the big question is not what the chords are, but how PB manages to play a melody instrument and sing harmony vocals at the same time when most of us find it hard enough to just do one of those things... |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: GUEST,jonty Date: 15 Mar 10 - 09:10 PM I think you'll find the first line of middle 8 is; "Toxic springs you tapped and sold," and last bit of last verse; "So where's your thrift, your caution, your honest sound advice, You know you dealt yourself a winning hand, and loaded every dice." |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 16 Mar 10 - 03:43 AM Yes, it IS an excellent song. But what a shame that Show of Hands new fans aren't writing about it, promoting it... Memo to SoH team, after hearing the band has lost three of its' major supporters very recently: "Inspirational idea to turn enemies into friends. Unbelievably stupid idea to turn friends into enemies." |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: Flashmeister Date: 16 Mar 10 - 10:25 AM I believe it was written by Steve Knightley. Though i have since heard two very good covers of the song at local sessions, much more pared down (obviously) but nevertheless both kept the feeling of the original - it's been well absorbed into the session scene already it seems! This is probably due to capturing the zeitgeist and it being a pertinent song at the moment; a new generational protest song and all that jazz. Guest KP - indeed how does he do it so well? - i have issues just 'armonising on unaccompanied songs! mind thee that could be the malign influence of the good ale in our session.... :-D |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: GUEST Date: 08 Aug 11 - 06:58 AM Words of wisdom from Nic (We are not worthy) Jones. 'What I used to do phil is walk around the house all day with the guitar on and just keep playing whatever I was working on. I could even make a cup of tea and answer the door while practising and playing. Eventually the thing becomes second nature and part of you'. That makes it easier to sing a song well when the accompaniment is second nature. I still don't think I'm anywhere near that level of unity but at least my postman is entertained!. Virtually all performers are either concentrating on singing or playing. If you want to hear absolute unity of the two skills, obviously Nic is one but try checking out Mike Silver. He plays as though one single unified thing is happening and its quite magical. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed From: GUEST,john.simmonds Date: 02 Dec 11 - 05:56 PM Interesting to see the current fashion for stamping out crticism has been followed by the 'so called' friendly backers running away from supporting the band at the slightest bit of discomfort felt over criticism Come on all you macho alpha types, if you are going to behave with such contempt for your fellow men and women, at least have courage to own up to what you are. This is a great song that says it as it is. Watching it played william hague on the andrew marr show was tv of the highest calibre. |
