Like KT I had too many high spots to name but I do need to say how impressed I was with Richard and Hillary. As most of you know, one of my all time favorite singers was Paul Robeson, and Richard reminds me of his singing.
Richard, come out from under that bushel and sing! What you have is too good to not share! Don't make me come over there!

Kendall and Susette and I had a good little picking session all by ourselves.

I enjoyed a jam with Steve Cormier and Ed Norman and Chris on Friday night.

Susette and I had a good chat with Eric Cole.

I loved Hilary's song at he concert on Sat night.

This floozie-come-lately might like to try belting one out, too. (I'm full of surprises; even used to front a gospel choir.)

Of course, we ain't heard from old Bob yet. But it might be fun to work up a blues act for the concert next year with A, Bob, me (and whoever) backing up some bluesy floozies.

Alright, alright! I'll start eating gravel now so I'm ready for next year. Let me know what you find Tink, and Amos.

Leej, I gotta say that you are one amazing harp player!! WOW!! It's almost enough to get me to sign on .......

Clairebear - "floozie-come-lately"   Too funny!

Thinking about highlights, and yes there were tons of them, I'm realizing that many of them were not huge events, but very small moments, which stand out in my mind as such treasures. I couldn't begin to list them all, because truly, there were so many, but just one example - for instance -Did anyone else notice how absolutely radiant Rita was when she was singing Santa Lucia?

I am lazing away a Saturday afternoon with photos and videos of the Getaway.
Have to admit I was befuddled at the picture of Gordon Bok singing the old torch song "Stormy Weather". LOL

And video of Santa Lucia? I am sorry I missed that and a hundred other moments.

Thank you to all who provided the videos and photos. Almost as good as being there.

Different Stormy Weather dear - this is the one.

STORMY WEATHER, BOYS

We were laying in Surrey Dock one day.
The mate knew that it was time to get under way.

cho: Stormy weather, boys, stormy weather, boys,
When the wind blows our barge will go.

He's homeward bound but he's out of luck
'Cause the skipper's half drunk in the Dog and Duck

Then the skipper came aboard with the girl on his arm
He's going to give up barging and take a farm.

So the mate ran forrard and the cook fell in the dock
And the skipper caught his knackers in the mainsheet block

The mate's at the wheel and he gybed her twice
'Cause the skipper's got his knackers in a bowl of ice

At last we're off down Limehouse Reach,
When our leeboards knocked on Greenwich Beach

The barge went ashore and scared our whore.
She said:"Chuck this, I'm off ashore."

We shoved her off and away we go,
But the skipper's got a barrel of beer below.

She fills away and she sails like heck
But there ain't no bargemen up on deck.

There's a crash and a bump and she's ashore
The mate says: "Christ, we're on the Nore."

Then up comes a mermaid covered in mud
The skipper says: "I think we're on the Whittaker Spit"

Then up comes another one covered in slime
So we took her down the focsle and had a time.

On the top of the tide the barge did fleet,
When the mate sees a ghost on the tops'l sheet

So away we go and the ghost did steer,
And the cook drank the dregs of the old man's beer.

We laid close-hauled round Orford Ness,
When the wind backed round to the south sou'west

We reached our port all safe and sound
And tied her up in Yarmouth Town.

So after all our fears and alarms
We all ended up in the Druid's Arms.

Well that barger's ballad ain't exactly a torch song, but it seemed like what it should be called, from the chorus, ya know. No guarantees!!.

FSGW 2009 Clip # 12:Lucy, David, Ron--"Thinking 'Bout Old Virginia" -- Peace Cabin Jam

I love Lucy's sweet mountain voice and David's harp weaves more beauty around it, as does Ron's fine fiddle in this fine song.

KT,

Ain't 'bout eatin' gravel... Ya' gotta take off a few years an' live unner a bridge somewhere... 'Er you could just eat a few more calories each day and fill out to the required (or preferred) figure... Not that skinny floozies can't shake it but it just ain't quite the same... No offense...

Yeah, the BBluesBand & the Floozies will do alot better next year... I think it's amatter of scheduling more than anything... I think if we were get a favorable schedule on Saturday afternoon where we weren't going up against the most recent folk god to move to that coffee house in the sky then maybe we'd get somethin' real tight and be able to do the Saturday night concert up proud...

LOL, Amos...

Yeah, I knew all about Janis Joplin... I had a contract to have her play at "The Center for the Performing Arts" (better known as just "The Center") in Richmond back in '68 for our opening... Then her agent called a week before the performance to tell us that she was sick and offered Doctor John, the Night Tripper... What was I to do??? So I hired Doctor John... What a pain in the ass he was...

So, I guess it's KT back to her gravel diet... lol...

As fir the crab pickin'??? Hey, if that can't get ya' in the mood fir shake, shake, shakin' then nuthin' can... I'm always up fir a crab pickin'... Might of fact, I think that the Getaway powers-at-be oughtta consider doin' a crab pickin' right there in the mess hall on Saturday afternoon... Plenty of newspaper, hammer and paper towels... Little slaw... Some beer... Jeeze Loise... If it get any better than that I wouldn't have a clue how... Yazzir... 'Er mam...

Back to reality Bobert..

here's the deal--for the past two years we've send out this guy Tom to make the reservations for later in the day...Saturday.... Too much distracting fun and it takes longer than the hour ---

a few folks have already signed on for next year..Ernie ,Suzette,Chance, Severn,Tom .. maybe Amos (?),myself, and Gene---Bobert? Anyone else in?..in all liklihood the place could hold 25-30 people with the full crab spread..

Hey, I got maybe even a btter idea... My poor ol' brother owns a beat up private marina (with dock, deck and tables) less than 10 minutes from the Getaway... Maybe we could pick up a bushel of crabs and do a crab pickin' there and have the joint to ourselves...

Just an idea... My brother wouldn't mind at all as long as we don't trash the boat-shaped-object (lol) that he owns and keeps there as his club house...

And I woulda divided up my time between the Peace Cabin with the other cabin that folks was jammin' at...

As fir the crab pickin??? I'm not goin' to be Bobert's Crab Shack 'er nuthin'... I'm just offering the marina to folks as an alternative to sittin' in someone elses crab shack...

I have some somewhat crude sound recordings from a hand-held recorder of parts of Getaway and most of the preGetaway sing at Chance & Susette's. I'm still re-listening to them to see what I actually DO have as yet and catalog it and determine its merits, so more on this at a later date. I had just bought it to practice with and just let it roll, so what's there is what's there.

One of us, however will have to learn to operate a videocam so your own musicianship can be recognized more----it's a shame we don't have more of your songs.
