Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: GUEST,Big Mick Date: 22 Oct 09 - 05:30 PM Cooper ..... I would rather spend time with dogs and kids, than time with an awful lot of adults I know. Fortunately, we don't have any adults on this site. I hope I get to meet you next year. Don't let the jammies fool you, I ain't a bunny. And if you start to smell the wrong place, we are going to wrestle........ Wait ...... if Dani or Janie does that ......... never mind, ........ bad, Mick, very bad ....... I'll get me cap |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: kendall Date: 22 Oct 09 - 05:37 PM Mick, I will also be there to kidnap you! I'm sure our Seamus would love the Getaway too. All those friendly people. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Amos Date: 22 Oct 09 - 06:45 PM Well, I say bring Seamus on. I've always wanted to meet him. Mick, I think you and Cooper would get along just fine. He even sings. Like some other crack-of-dawn Getawayers, not always at the right time or in the right key, but no question it is singing. You and he probably have all kinds of common interests... A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Bill D Date: 22 Oct 09 - 06:50 PM "...all kinds of common interests..." I'll bet their notions of "vile black stuff" are different. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Lonesome EJ Date: 22 Oct 09 - 07:02 PM Maybe I'll bring my python, Rickie. He loves folk musicians, especially if they take a nap under his tree. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Dan Schatz Date: 22 Oct 09 - 08:14 PM I'd like to meet Seamus too, but not at the Getaway. I seriously worry about what would happen if we were to end up with multiple dogs that didn't get along. Not to mention the instruments that currently folks feel comfortable leaving out of the case, on the for sale table, or elsewhere in a session. Or allergies. Or whether the dogs and kids mix (I know what my choice would be between those two)... or... or... Besides, we don't even know if pets really are permitted at the camp or if they were kindly turning a blind eye. I just don't think the Getaway and pets mix very well, much as we love both. Sorry if I sound like a wet blanket. More sorry if I smell like one. And Phil, I was very glad you were there, whatever I may think about pets and Getaways. I loved your song in the Beggars, Tramps and Bums workshop. Dan |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Janie Date: 22 Oct 09 - 08:25 PM I have to agree with Dan. I greatly enjoyed Cooper and wasn't bothered by his presence at all. However, one dog is one thing. But if several people bring their dogs it is likely to quickly become a problem. Don't know about the rest of you, but I sure wouldn't want to be the person who decided which one person gets to bring their dog. Janie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 22 Oct 09 - 09:01 PM LEJ, I have a friend in Chicago who has smuggled her ball python (named Spot) into several hotels during filk cons. He's quite popular and has appeared on stage a number of times draped around the shoulders of some of our finer ladies. Including once when the lady in question was singing "Trust In Me" from "The Jungle Book". The most mischief Spot has caused is when we had to extract him from the fiddle into which he'd begun to slither. -- Gary |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Bill D Date: 22 Oct 09 - 09:31 PM I once 'wore' a 7 ft. long, 45lb., Burmese Rock python around my shoulders, neck, waist, arm, back to shoulders...etc. for 10 minutes during a talk given by a zoo employee. She* liked the warmth, but never stopped moving and shifting her weight. *she-- a female python who was an 'employee' of a city-owned zoo... her name was Sybil....get it? worked for the bureaucracy... Sybil Serpent. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Amos Date: 22 Oct 09 - 09:59 PM I wore a big python for a while in Thailand. I still have the photo somewhere. I wouldn't bring it to the Getaway though. A |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: kendall Date: 22 Oct 09 - 10:40 PM Relax Dan; I was being facetious. I am very fond of Seamus but there are places he just doesn't go. Hell, I have relatives who would be out of place at the Getaway. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: KT Date: 23 Oct 09 - 12:58 AM Hey, y'all!! I've been out of town and just returned....glad to see you're extending this Getaway weekend! Mick, next year, my friend, there will be no excuses for you! I, too, have been inducted into the evil sisterhood and there's no telling what the sisters will devise for you, should you try another stunt like you pulled this year. Naw Bobert, I wasn't mad at you ~ you just didn't show up for any of the waltz workshops. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Janie Date: 23 Oct 09 - 01:12 AM Isn't it wonderfully amazing how a few twisted sisters from the Northeast USA have, with the womanly virtues of patience and persistence, succeeded in corrupting so many of the the Mudcat womenz of the world? 'Tweren't that hard, really. We were already primed by all those murder ballads. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Lonesome EJ Date: 23 Oct 09 - 01:54 AM Ernie, you say your python loves humans. Is that for lunch or dessert? The answer is, simply, yes. In fact, one good size human is pretty much good for lunch, dessert, dinner, and breakfast the next morning. Ricky never rushes through a meal. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Genie Date: 23 Oct 09 - 02:11 AM There were waltz workshops? And nobody told me?? Dang! G PS Bill, don't tell Severn about Sybil Serpent. He'll be devastated that he didn't come up with the name! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Ebbie Date: 03 Nov 09 - 11:19 PM .Well, I've been sitting here a good three (!) hours clicking on video links and still pictures and having a high old time. It is an amazing collection of a weekend- and one of the best things is that the faces are relaxed and there. I don't know why it is but in most audience pictures - no matter how great their enjoyment -it seems that most faces look tight and tired and a bit out of it. That is not true of any of the pictures this year. I did notice though - perhaps with the benefit of hindsight - Barry did not look well. He was in good voice and was obviously enjoying himself. But he did not look well. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Micca Date: 06 Nov 09 - 08:53 PM There are some pix Here a sample of what I took, PM me if I have mis-identified anyone and I will try to correct.enjoy Micca |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Amos Date: 06 Nov 09 - 11:30 PM Micca, those are great pictures!! I am glad to have the shots of Waltzing. No-one would have believed I got to dance with KT, otherwise! :D Really good memories, mate. Enough to last a year, anyway. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: GUEST,Dani Date: 07 Nov 09 - 10:52 AM But why do so many of us look so miserable in Getaway pictures, when we know we had the time of our lives?! Usually, it's 'cause we were being transported by someone's wonderful singing/song, but it really does give the wrong impression, doesn't it?! Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Bill D Date: 07 Nov 09 - 11:43 AM Micca...0469, labeled "Keith" is actually "Pete the Spy".This was his first Getaway on many years. (He swears he will be back) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Nancy King Date: 07 Nov 09 - 12:02 PM Thanks, Micca! Great pix! I particularly like the caption on the one of me and Ron Davies and Ken... BTW, the one you have identified as "Keith" is actually Pete the Spy. And just for the record, "Mr. Cormier" is Steve Cormier, "Mrs. Bok" is Carol Rohl (she is, of course, Mrs. Bok, but prefers to go by her own name), and there is an un-captioned one of Jon Bartlett's wife and singing partner, Rika Ruebsaat. I don't think we look "miserable," Dani (well, maybe YOU do... ;o) We're just concentrating on the songs. Actually, this year's pictures (particularly Ellen's) seem to catch more of us smiling than some we've had of past years. A worthy trend! Ebbie, regarding Barry not looking well. He was mostly just tired, I think. He didn't arrive at the Getaway until the early hours of Sunday morning, because he had attended his 40th high school reunion on Saturday evening, and then driven all night from New Hampshire to Maryland, picking up Tinker in New Jersey on the way, getting lost in Baltimore, etc., etc. Now this is not to say that such harebrained behavior did not contribute to his heart attack two weeks later, but mostly I think he was just tired. He was in fine form after a brief nap Sunday morning, and I'm so grateful for the chance to see him that one last time. God, we'll miss him. Nancy |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Micca Date: 07 Nov 09 - 12:55 PM Thanks for the "corrections" and additions, Nancy and Dan ( apologies for mixing you up with your brother again!!), I think people are mostly serious looking in these pix because they were listening to singers when I took them (with one of 2 notable exceptions) many at the Concerts. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: jacqui.c Date: 07 Nov 09 - 01:07 PM Nice photos Micca - I loved the one of Dan and Kiran. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Alaska Mike Date: 07 Nov 09 - 01:30 PM Well count me in for 2010. I will retire next July and will not be spending my Octobers in the Aleutian Islands any longer. I think it was 2004 when last I attended the Getaway and I'm ready to try it again. So save me a seat in the bass/baritone section and show me where the really dark beers are cooling. See you next year. Mike |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: GUEST,Dani Date: 07 Nov 09 - 05:28 PM Geez, Amos..... see, that's exactly the kind of thing we don't need splashed all over some friend-of-a-friend's facebook (see "Share this" thread). My Inner Hottie is blushing. Mike, I'm so glad you'll be there again. You'll like the new place. I didn't see ANY beer there at all. Neither will you : ) Dani |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Amos Date: 07 Nov 09 - 05:32 PM Oh, sorry. I thought it was-established. Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: KT Date: 08 Nov 09 - 03:18 AM Great pics, Micca! Keep 'em comin! When I think about all that has happened since the Getaway, I find it so hard to believe that it was just 5 short weeks ago! In fact, 5 weeks ago this very hour, we were just wrapping up the Saturday night concert, and gearing up for another 4 more hours of singing, jamming and merry-making! sigh... only 47 more weeks to go..... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: CET Date: 08 Nov 09 - 10:54 AM It'll be good to see you again, Mike. There's always room for a harmony slut. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Janie Date: 08 Nov 09 - 09:25 PM Seems my post from yesterday didn't take. Speaking of takes, I have a different take on Micca's wonderful portraits, Dani. What I see is people thoroughly enraptured while feeling absolutely "at home." (I do wish he had used the lens that takes off 20-40 lbs and several years:) Otherwise, I note that we are aging, and that there are not very many people at the Getaway in the "under 40" category, let alone 20 somethings. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Bill D Date: 08 Nov 09 - 10:17 PM aging? Some, perhaps...but I see that Dorian Gray & I look ok.... ☺ |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2009 - other stuff than programming From: Bill D Date: 09 Nov 09 - 11:54 AM ulp.... I didn't know anyone got a picture of my overalls. (and THEN you let me pretend I could waltz...*grin*.) |
