Just thought I'd share with you all that I'm knackered after a busy weekend/monday. It was Leeds on Sat afternoon, Huddersfield Sat evening, Derbyshire Sun Agternoon and Hillborough Sheffield all day on Monday. I think all me brain cells are deaded from extreme Guinness overload. Had to have yesterday.

Keep it up cos we have another 12 months of teaching the stomach how to take it before the next belt of it! Although, the Irish dont really need cause to drink the black stuff... strangely enough....

Linda and I were over in France on Tuesday and we bumped into a group of very innebriated Irishmen in Boulogne - still all wearing their Guiness Hats.

I had a pretty good one in a little Irish pub in Ottawa. Had an old friend volunteer to drive, got lots of free Sleeman Honey Brown and finished up with a few belts of Glenfiddich.

Oh, played some music too. I learned "Foggy Dew" for the occasion, courtesy of Big Mick's CD. I gotta hand it to you Irish, you know how to write a protest song--er "song of resistance". Twas fun and well received. Mudcatter RichM was there, as well as some of my classmates. And I played a set with this hot young fiddle player Danny O'Connell. The name of the pub is Daniel O'Connell's. Pure coincidence actually.

9 gigs in 4 days...... and I lost count of the number of times we were askedfro "dirty old town".... (but at least I prefer it to "Athenry"!!

Perhaps in England, we should try and get a bit more going on April 23rd - ST GEORGES DAY. Pubs always seem to have Guiness at reduced prices for St Pat's - what about cheap draught bitter for our national day ?

Strange how "Dirty old town" has become associated with the Irish since it was written about Salford!

Since the dates for the two holidyas happened to coincide, I attended our synagogue's "St. Patrick's Purim Spiel." For the uninitiated, Purim is like Jewish Halloween, and celebrates the failure of Haman to kill all the Jews in Persia (See the Book of Esther). Everybody is supposed to dress up silly and drink a lot. The spiel is a play recounting the story of Esther and Haman, and in our synagogue it is usually a major satirical political statement. This year it had an Irish theme, featuring Irish terrorists throwing Mazeltov cocktails, and an Arab and a Jewish terrorist who said they were tired of religious strife, so they went to Northern Ireland. All in all, thr most unusual St. Paddy's Day I have ever spent.
