Subject: BS: What ruined your day today From: kendall Date: 06 Sep 08 - 04:25 PM Today I was working on the parking light of our 1940 Chevy, and I dropped the lens. Being made of glass, it broke into 4 pieces on the cement floor. Finding another one will be a real challenge. Obsolete Chevy Parts co. has a plastic replacement for $15.00, but that's not an option. Damn. |

Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Joe_F Date: 06 Sep 08 - 08:47 PM I was at a filkers' meeting this afternoon. I glanced at my calendar & noticed that my ex-quasi-lover's wedding, which I was going to go to, was tomorrow. It had snuck up on me. He had intended to give me a list of people to ask for a ride, but (it turned out, when I got home, found no phone message or email, and called him) he had forgotten about it. He called me back with three numbers. I am waiting for replies to messages to two of them. |

If you claimed to have had a great day and bottled some of it.. I guess it might sell. Ther saddest one I heard of was a plastic bag... given free by Marks and Spencers sold on Ebay for £6.01 ($10.63). You might make a fortune bottling your days. |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 07 Sep 08 - 06:14 AM my very sore knee & back seemed likely to ruin my day half way around an Antiques & Collectables fair, but after a long (seated) chat with a dealer friend I was rested enough to continue, & even have a second wander after another chat. Tho I had money burning a hole in my pocket, I only found 4 very small things to buy (total cost $18) but the rest of money is tucked away for another fair next week! hmmm, maybe I should have posted this on the What Made Your Day thread. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: kendall Date: 07 Sep 08 - 06:35 AM Art, that is such a bummer. There are times when I wish the great spirit had never given me a singing voice to start with. The loss is far worse than it would be if I never had it at all. I still enjoy your recordings so much. That story about the lock moss nesters always tickles me. |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: wysiwyg Date: 07 Sep 08 - 10:23 AM Although I do use a form of venting (RC) to avoid building up stored frustrations, I seldom think of unfortunate occurrences as having "ruined my day." For me it's more the case that I wake up, usually, pretty happy to be starting another day (after my morning cuppa, LOL, not as soon as I open my eyes), and looking forward to what it will hold. Only after several things go poorly does it usually dawn on me, "Oh! I think I may actually be having a bad day....." And then once I see that, I try to limit my damages-- cut back on things I'm trying to get done on that day, keep an eye out for the positive alternatives that may be right in front of me, learn something from whatever is happening, etc. Case in point-- vision issues.... had been counting, subconsciously, on getting the new glasses. Been waiting.... Crushed to find, Friday, that not only no glasses NOW, but it would still be several MORE long days off. Cried hard, in surprise at how much I'd invested in them-- you see, they will be a huge indicator as to whether I've had another stroke. If the glasses solve the vision (and related) issues, I'll be so relieved, and if not, I'll have a series of doctor visits to negotiate with possible bad news all the way around. But after about 120 seconds of that grief-- just tasting it and letting it flow out I mean-- I began to notice that Some Other Thing might be in store for me, other than the driving and Usual Activities that have been suspended while I explore this vision thing. And I got right on with those Other Things, and had a good day. A better day than the day before when my brain function had been pretty screwed up all day and I'd bumped, hard and often, into all sorts of "can't do THAT" little failures (and the cost of having not just waited for a better day). See? I let my smarted brain take charge absolutely the moment it's able to do the job. Day ruined? Uh no..... redirected. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Bat Goddess Date: 07 Sep 08 - 08:26 PM Sabine didn't come home again last night -- despite the rain. My neighbor checked her Hav-A-Heart trap in the field above our house and Sabine hadn't gotten inadvertently trapped. She's our sophisticated black lady cat who loves being outside mugging small woodland creatures. When she didn't come home Wednesday night, I wasn't happy, but I wasn't worried. I didn't worry Thursday night either, as she often will stay out several nights when the weather is good. It rained yesterday and poured last night. She's still not home. I'm trying to be optimistic, but I'm definitely worried. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: emjay Date: 08 Sep 08 - 12:06 AM Oh, Liz. I just make sure I am reading the right passage and pronounce all the words correctly, then I sit down. |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Bill D Date: 08 Sep 08 - 04:55 PM today I heard stuff on TV, read stuff in the paper and on Mudcat that has me despairing about the future...because of ignorance and the seeming refusal of many people to CARE whether they are ignorant or not! (Ignorance is not 'stupidity'...ignorance can be overcome: it is curable...with some help & effort. One of my favorite saying is "It's too bad ignorance does not itch.") oh...and my major lathe in my shop is not working properly. To find out what is wrong, I need a bolt with a certain thread to unscrew a part. This thread is used primarily in England, where the lathe was made, and I have been to two hardware stores who 'should' have odd items, but without luck! I cannot fathom why, if a English company (Myford) cannot be bothered to make items sold in America have the threads WE use, they could not at least supply a bolt worth less than 1 pound to ALLOW me to disassemble this thing! |

Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 09 Sep 08 - 03:53 AM Someone wants to pick up their Technics piano ensenble, and sell it. It's not the best piano/synth on the planet, but its Steinway samples, and its weighted keys, are the best!..I'll miss it....unless I buy it, but she thinks its worth $15,000 dollars, and its not(too old, the electronics have come a long way, since 1989) |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: kendall Date: 09 Sep 08 - 07:25 AM Liz, maybe your ink is drying up and the ports are plugging up so it can't run? |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Sep 08 - 07:44 AM No, it's not the ink, it's the collating and feed. It picked up two pieces of paper at once and thus half the music is on the wrong page. I'll not waste it all, because I can paste up some copies for the organist and musical director, but it's a pain in the ass when I'm trying to make 40 books of music. Not to mention the ink cartridges used, even on speedy print low resolution. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Bat Goddess Date: 09 Sep 08 - 10:02 AM Got a very welcome phone call at 7 a.m. from my up-the-hill neighbor, Izo -- Sabine was safe and in good health after being trapped in her cellar since last Wednesday. Izo found her huddled under the beams atop the stone cellar wall on the side of the house closest to our house -- and directly under Izo's bedroom. (The cellar is in two parts, one 18th century and the other not much newer with a wall between. The only communication is a cat-sized passage between. Don't know how long Sabine was in the seldom-used side under Dan's office which was open last Wednesday when they took trash to the dump.) Whew! I guess I can trust my instincts -- I'd had a stronger feeling that she was stuck in a cellar or garage than that some woodland predator had gotten her. She's a very savvy cat. And, though worried about her, hadn't felt an urge to mourn -- I had too much hope that she'd turn up. What a wonderful way to start the day! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: What ruined your day today From: Bill D Date: 10 Sep 08 - 05:23 PM I saw some of those....as far as I could tell, all 'over there' where postage way exceeds value of item.
