Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 21 Feb 06 - 11:23 PM I'm sorta like the guy of whom PoppaGator spoke. I posted regularly from work for several months back in 2000-2001, but I didn't have a computer at home and didn't get one until about a year-and-a-half after I retired. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: jacqui.c Date: 21 Feb 06 - 11:30 PM I'm now a lady of leisure with time for the 'Cat at home. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 22 Feb 06 - 12:20 AM " I think Clinton is way wrong with his lowball estimate of "10 or 20 regular posters," Duh... already spoken too.... |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: MBSLynne Date: 22 Feb 06 - 02:49 AM I look through the threads a couple of times every day and post quite often, though much less often than I used to because I know that almost anything you say, no matter how bland or innocent, will bring arguement, unpleasantness and often abuse. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 22 Feb 06 - 04:14 AM When I was at work with the internet always up on my screen I'd pop in at odd free moments during the day. When I retired I'd log in once a week or so via the library. Once we got online at home I increased my usage but the loss of some respected contributers and the increase of unfunny and malicious BS has meant that I read fewer threads and during the Mudcat tech problems I stopped trying to get in more than once a day. I find I'm busier too and don't have the time to read lots of threads. My aim for my postings is fewer but better. (One out of two ain't bad!) RtS |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 22 Feb 06 - 04:37 AM Mudcat is my homepage & I skim thru the threads every night, unless it's down or I'm on holidays, but I don't post every time I log in. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Gervase Date: 22 Feb 06 - 04:56 AM I was a frequent poster in the days when I was paid by someone else to sit on my arse and stare at a screen, but these days I'm my own boss, and thus time here has become something of a luxury. And it has to be said that the place is more acrimonious than it used to be - far more chips on shoulders and axes being ground these days. And while I am far from a reasonable man, I do find it hard to summon up the energy to reply to all the stuff with which I disagree. The fall-out from 9-11 also made a difference. The event itself was incredible in the way it brought the amorphous Mudcat together as something akin to a real community, but the aftermath - particularly Iraq - has seen some major divisions open up. Whereas once I felt that there was little difference between us, I now do feel that some people posting here are from another planet. I find their dogmatism and their beligerence unsettling, and that has put a curb on some of my posting. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: RolyH Date: 22 Feb 06 - 05:42 AM I lurk a lot and post about once a year. See you next year. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: JennyO Date: 22 Feb 06 - 06:57 AM Apart from a couple of times that I have posted from my son's computer, I only post from home. I log on occasionally for a little while around lunch time on some days, and every night as a matter of course - unless I'm away or the 'Cat is down, or there is some other unforseen circumstance, such as when I was moving a couple of years ago. I try to check out all the threads I'm interested in, which is a lot. I mainly avoid the political threads because I don't fancy ploughing through long cut and pastes - life's too short. I did try to take on Teribus once in my early days, but decided pretty quickly that it wasn't worth the bother. I don't think that realistically, anyone's going to change anyone else's mind here anyway, and none of it is going to make the slightest difference to what our pollies do. If I want to make a statement, I'd rather go out and protest, or do something that might make a difference out in the real world. I view Mudcat chiefly as my entertainment, so with a few exceptions (like many, I have been "Shambled"), rather than having arguments, I prefer to put my energy here into the music threads that interest me and the funny ones. I post something most days - some more than others. My average since I joined at the end of 2002 is 2.91 - just under 3 posts a day, and probably would be more if it wasn't for all of Mudcat's downtime. So yes, I would definitely consider myself a regular poster. A day without Mudcat feels like there is something missing - pretty sad I suppose. I blame Sandra - she introduced me to Mudcat ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: GUEST,catsPHiddle@work Date: 22 Feb 06 - 07:38 AM I'm a regular poster...although I have to sign in as guest when I'm at work...like now!! |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Beer Date: 22 Feb 06 - 07:57 AM I check the Mud every day. Read some of the threads but post less and less. Beer |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:16 AM Regular poster - nah! Anyway it's all cyberspace, so by definition it's just electrons, and they are all identical, and thanks to Heisenberg, we're not sure where they are or what they are doing. All in all - I think it must all be a figment of somebody's deranged imagination!!! Let's face it - any postings you think that you have seen from me are probably just in your head! And who in their right mind would call themself Geoff the Duck? Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: GUEST Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:43 AM Why do you want to know? So you can suss out the Mudcat junkies besides yourself, who have no friggin' life? Any forum like this is a bad habit--people love their own bad habits, and complain about other peoples. This thread looks like one of those "let's congratulate ourselves on our bad habit" sorts of things. One thing I do know, there is a core group of people who post here daily who could stand to find some new diversions. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: gnu Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:48 AM Severn... Not to be a discom-poster, but lately, I find the inter-posters are trans-posting some of the out-posters and the regular posters to the point that they become a-postaters. I'm just posting. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: gnu Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:53 AM From: GUEST Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:43 AM Apparently, you are number 1!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Mooh Date: 22 Feb 06 - 09:11 AM Intermittently regular, if that makes any sense. Have never logged off to pose as a guest, though I have posted from elsewhere and identified myself. When that happens I've been at my sister's place or the family cottage. I work at home so I post from home. Back when I didn't work from home I posted once or twice from work, but that was pretty risky. I like most of the regulars here, even when we don't agree. This place nurtures tolerance, intelligent discourse, and mutual understanding. First post in a long while, as it happens. Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: aussiebloke Date: 22 Feb 06 - 09:34 AM Seeing as you asked nicely; I lurk a lot, read a lot, and post occasionally... Cheers all aussiebloke |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: SINSULL Date: 22 Feb 06 - 09:45 AM I suffer on occasion from Digital Diarrhea and run off at the mouth. For that I apologize. Mostly, I am regular. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 22 Feb 06 - 11:47 AM There are some people who seem to post to nearly every thread I look at. I sometimes wonder whether they post to lots of the threads I don't look at, as well, or whether they are just attracted to the same thread titles as me - but I haven't time to look through all the other threads to find out. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Donuel Date: 22 Feb 06 - 11:53 AM I'm a 44 regular. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: number 6 Date: 22 Feb 06 - 12:00 PM gnu .... now if we can only obtain the identity of Number 1 ! sIx (I'm number 6) |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Bill D Date: 22 Feb 06 - 12:09 PM 9½ years...slow & steady. The way I'd determine the 'answer' is to make a list of "names I remember immediately when I see them and have a good idea of who they are, how they think and what their interests are." There must be a couple hundred of those, even if there are days or weeks between posts.....and I suppose I am 'aware' of 500 or more names that ring a bell when I see them....(oh, this includes those nice folks ABOVE the line...*grin*) |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Kaleea Date: 22 Feb 06 - 06:28 PM how's about infrequently quasi frequent on a regularly semi-regular posting basis of sometimes more now than then and other times more then than now, depending of course upon the ratio of Pi to Prunes. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Feb 06 - 07:37 PM I'm a pretty regular poster--200 messages since December 2, or about 2.4 per day, but 80% of them are in the music section. (I just did a calculation. OK, call me anal.) |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Charley Noble Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:01 PM I'm regular when Mudcat is regular but I'm well beyond my honeymoon period on this website. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Wolfgang Date: 23 Feb 06 - 06:54 AM I have to agree with Richard Bridge though for a different reason. In my dictionary the first mentioned meaning of 'regular' is 'belonging to a religious order'. So the answer is 'none' as far as I know. Wolfgang (hoping for an award) |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Dave Hanson Date: 23 Feb 06 - 07:45 AM If you took all the regular posters and laid them end to end accross the Atlantic ocean................they would all drown. eric |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: gnu Date: 23 Feb 06 - 09:23 AM Not if they were getting laid. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Snuffy Date: 23 Feb 06 - 09:34 AM I look in during my luchtime at work, and an hour or so at home in the evenings. I tend to read much more above the line than below (62 to 7 on the current thread list) and my postings probably reflect that balance. BS is ok in its place but this IS a music site (allegedly) About one-and-a-half postings a day for the last six years. Is that enough to be regular? |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: catspaw49 Date: 23 Feb 06 - 09:34 AM Yeah, but it's tough to get laid when you are end to end. Middle to middle or front to front or even front to back, but end to end........nah Gnu.....that's pretty tough. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: jacqui.c Date: 23 Feb 06 - 10:15 AM Remember Spaw - gnu is Canadian. They do have some strange practices up there! |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: gnu Date: 23 Feb 06 - 10:47 AM Practice? We don't practice. Well, maybe just the once. After that, it's all very serious. Spaw... we never get too close in the winter. Don't wanna get anything 'tuck. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Bill D Date: 23 Feb 06 - 12:52 PM thus the expression 'frigid' arose... |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: GUEST,dianavan Date: 23 Feb 06 - 09:35 PM I'm a regular but decided to become somewhat irregular by posting occasionally as a Guest, guest. I lost my cookies but since I'm on a diet, I decided not to find them. I discovered Mudcat, looking for a song. When I discovered BS, it became habitual. Sort of like an evening constitutional or something... Its actually a very good way to vent. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: CarolC Date: 24 Feb 06 - 12:44 AM I'm a regular poster when I have internet access, which is seldom at this particular point in time. Hopefully that will change in the near future. |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: Flash Company Date: 24 Feb 06 - 04:30 AM I find from my personal page that I have made 770 postings since September 2004. Allowing for about 6 weeks per year when I abandon computers for Cornwall, and the period of inactivity in early 2005 when Max was having his server problems, I guess that makes me a 'frequent' poster. As someone else said earlier,it depends on the threads on the day, I am surely around most days. Incidently, Sheila reckons that counting up your postings comes somewhere alongside trying to weigh the cat in the list of useless pastimes. I will now probably vanish for a day or two, a guy is coming to dig my dining room floor up an Tuesday! FC |
Subject: RE: BS: How many 'regular posters' do we have? From: My guru always said Date: 24 Feb 06 - 04:46 AM Definitely occasional in regards to posting rather than habit, mostly Music. Pop in several times a day both at work and home to see what's going on. Always logged in with the exception of Secret Santa. Just love it here! |
