Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Mudlark Date: 29 Jul 02 - 02:41 AM Nice song, Nigel...you're right, too....I never want to stop.
Amos...gogogogo! Mudcatters all over the world are staring into the white glare of their monitor, hanging by and on a thread, waiting for the word!
But. No pressure! Mil gracias and a thousand thanks for taking this on, Amos! |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: MMario Date: 29 Jul 02 - 09:10 AM purity? my g*d we're talking mudcatters here, and they are trying to find PURITY???? we're doomed.... |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 29 Jul 02 - 09:59 AM LOL, MM!! Well, I dunno -- maybe simplicity is the word I was looking for. You can confuse the two pretty easily, huh? Here's the deal: the display of all the materials is a long table and the tools I have all add crap in the HTML they generate, such as styles and other fancy bells and whistles. Jeff asked me to trim the superfluous stufgf out of the HTML. When I have done so, it will be a long simple table listing all the contributions so far. I don't want anyone thinking I have ignored them, even though I have been submerged in more pressing demands from the 3D world, and taken a "vacation". Karen, the current plan is not to exclude anyone, but to sort representative cuts from all contributors into a series of CDs. If this turns out to be unfeasible, I'll bite the editorial bullet about inclusion/exclusion but it is not an approach I want to take if I csan help it -- not quite in the spirit of the thing -- despite Art telling me I have to learn to say "No"! LOL!
Tell me, why do they sing for their money Well, ya know what I mean, huh? Never fear, we'll get there! A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: michaelr Date: 29 Jul 02 - 07:53 PM Amos, I'm standing by to work on the cover. Has it been determined whether we'll use Mudcat handles or people's real names? Michael |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 29 Jul 02 - 08:10 PM Mudcat handles is the current policy, unless specifically requested otherwise, michael. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 29 Jul 02 - 11:01 PM I have sent the table off, well cleaned up, for technical approval from Pene. Hopefully the post containing it will pass review and show up here in a short while....I have my HTML-stained little fingers crossed! A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 29 Jul 02 - 11:20 PM Greetings, fellow Folkies! The Mudcat CD Project stirs!! It mumbles!! It must be.....alive!! I have finally had some time today to sort through the many wonderful tapes, files and CDs you all have sent. Thank you so much for singing and taping and sending. Here is a preliminary table of the music that has been sent in. The spots marked TBD mean it hasn't been figgered out yet. Please look this over and see if you can spot where I bolloxed up, left someone off by mistake, crossed up a name, or forgot something we had discussed. I haven't left anyone out intentionally, I promise!! But I'm not the sharpest iglet in the nest sometimes :>) And there was an awful lot of traffic being generated so if I dropped a stitch or two, be forebearing, eh? You can let me know by PM or by emailing me. If you have been remiss and would still like to get something in under the wire, Big Mick is holding the door ajar with his prominent spud for a while longer!! Regards, Amos And now....the table you have all been waiting for.....

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Tweed Date: 30 Jul 02 - 06:33 AM Holy Moley Amos, what a collection! Will you ever be able to listen to folk music again after all this? Alan Lomax, wherever he is, must be smiling the big smile right about now. ;~) Tweed |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: dwditty Date: 30 Jul 02 - 08:13 AM Hi Amos, Man, you have been busy. I vote we all encourage Max to have a song on here. C'mon, Max. dw |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 30 Jul 02 - 08:28 AM As predicted I made one goof -- Amergin should also be on the list with his poems, one of which will be included. They are worth the listen. Tweed -- 's not a problem, see -- the trick is listening to the singer more than the song. :>) Max -- if you records me a Staggolee it goes to the top of the list. C'mooon, man. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 30 Jul 02 - 10:05 PM Well, so far, Amergin's poem got missed and Giac's tape apparently got eaten byt postal workers or stolen for higher use by aliens en route. I dunno. Awaiting other comments if any. Also waiting for Mick's thongs (thilly boy!) andf Max' remarks or conclusions on logistics. You STILL have a window of time in which to sing, tape and send if you ACT NOOOWWW!! Don't miss this chance to have your own singing heart transmitted around the Blue Planet!! Git on boarrrrd!! Luv y'aall. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 30 Jul 02 - 11:50 PM Yaaaay! Giac's gonna re-tape the songs! I guess we got damage control rolled out in good order on those little breaches. Laaaaaast callllll!!!! train's a-leaving!!! Choooooooochooooooo!!! A |

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Mudlark Date: 31 Jul 02 - 01:02 AM Whoa! I am so excited at the prospect of hearing you all! |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: katlaughing Date: 31 Jul 02 - 01:32 AM I vote for a definite inclusion of Kevin McGrath's White Snow of the Springtime! It's a gorgeous song, sung by him or Aine. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Chris Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 01:36 AM Amos, Well done and thanks, this must have taken hours. Chris |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: michaelr Date: 31 Jul 02 - 01:38 AM Wow, Amos -- that's about 80 songs right there... and you're asking for more?? ;-) We're looking at 6 or 7 CDs right now (depending on length of songs). I do believe it is time to discuss possibly cutting it down to a more manageable size. Not just because of the work and cost involved in publishing all this material, but because after all... This is supposed to benefit the Mudcat! (in case someone forgot) and it appears to me that a 2-or 3-CD set would find a lot more buyers than a 7-CD set. Just a thought, Brother Amos. Let's hear others' ideas. Cheers, Michael |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 02:38 AM I hate it when pragmatism gets in the way of ideal Reality!! KOK Maybe so, michael -- lemme see how it shakes out. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Llanfair Date: 31 Jul 02 - 07:26 AM God!! that is an impressive list, and I am proud to be a part of it. I can't wait for the collection to be distributed. I need to hear it all, lots of times. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: hesperis Date: 31 Jul 02 - 10:51 AM WOW! What a list! Did I send you something else, Amos? Seal Woman or Life Lives On? |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: alanabit Date: 31 Jul 02 - 11:01 AM Can I vote for Kevin McGrath's "Green Heart of Harlow", Larry's (InObu) "Yvette's Song" and the gorgeous "Eagle Eye" from Ten Penny Bit (Robin 2). Are the "preferred cuts" the preferences expressed by the selectors or by the artists? |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 12:25 PM Hesp: I don't think so, but I am not at my home machine. alanabit: Votes duly noted. The preferences are either those expressed by the artist and endorsed by the editor, or those of the editor. We honor the artists whenever possible -- the only exception would be for considerations of legal clearance on songs used. Larry's Yvette's Song is already on the table. At Barbara's request, "Last Old Shovel" will probably hit the cutting room floor. All opinions will be respectfully considered; beyond that, no promises, okay? I have my sanity to consider! :>) A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 08:47 PM Hesp: I have two other cuts of yours on my hard disk -- they are both beautiful -- one is called Unicorn Dream, and one Abundant Harvest. I thought Skylark, which is vocal, was by far the best suited for the 'CatSampler. It is extraordinary. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Barbara Shaw Date: 31 Jul 02 - 09:43 PM I was surprised by the songs Amos picked from my CD! I would have put Connecticut Waltz in the running (the only instrumental), but I completely defer to his judgment. I'm just glad to be included on the sampler, so it should reflect the taste of the producer. Thanks, Amos! |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Paul G. Date: 31 Jul 02 - 10:09 PM Stepping out of the studio where I'm recording my next CD long enough to say "thank you" to Saint Amos. What a extraordinary effort! I am so honored to be among these talented and giving artists. Best to all, Paul |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Genie Date: 31 Jul 02 - 10:37 PM For the record, Amos, and all, I am not the "Genie" who is singing with IanB on "My Man." Sad to say, I've met Ian B. only via Mudcat (and a his "Caleb's Cool Yule Tape," for which I still owe a donation.) I noticed there was a "Genie" who is some sort of significant other to another Mudcatter, who has been referred to in another thread or two, but she is not a Mudcat member under that specific name. Maybe some of you other catters can clarify who it is named Genie who sings with Ian. Jeanene (Genie) |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 10:48 PM Genie: My aplogies -- I thought it hard to see how you two had collaborated, but in my weary frame of mind I let it slide -- I guess I just thought, in this day and age anything is possible!; now it seems impossible! The label said Mudcatter Genie and I hadn't realized there might be two!! So I took the one I knew. Wodda maroon! Ya want I should put one of your fine choons from the PNWG on the list, then? I jhave a fine MP3 of you doing Summer Wages with Rangeroger introducing it with a litany of his aches and pains, midconversation! **bg** I'd have to get two releases for that one!! Plus maybe some accident insurance!! LOL! But your Summertime is mighty fine!! :>) Or send me an MP3?? A

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: katlaughing Date: 31 Jul 02 - 10:58 PM Is "Margmac" supposed to be MaryMac? If not, who is Margmac? |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 11:53 PM Margaret MacArthur, who recently won a Lifetime Acheivement Award fromt he Vermont Arts Council. Kytrad made it a condition of her contributing that I get agreements to contribute from Sandy, Art and Margaret. They were all thrilled. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 31 Jul 02 - 11:55 PM And omigod I just noticed I left Sandy off the danged table!! He sent a CD with numerous beautiful cuts on it. A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: katlaughing Date: 01 Aug 02 - 12:12 AM Ah, good for kytrad! |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Genie Date: 01 Aug 02 - 01:31 AM Amos, if you want to use one of the songs I did at Jen's, that's fine, but if you want the best quality sound, I'd suggest either "Drive You Out Of My Mind," "Thirty-to-Fifty-Odd Seals," or "Harmony: One Out Of Many," from the tape I gave you at Jen's. All of those were recorded in a semi-professional studio. There's also an MP3 of you and me doing the Irving Berlin duet "Play A Simple Melody/I Want To Listen To Rag" which you made at your house. Or I could send you a tape of the current (shorter) version of my 9-11 song (Valley Of The Towering Shadows).
As my 15-year-old niece would say, ¤;- D

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: hesperis Date: 01 Aug 02 - 05:53 AM Aha! Invocation - Life Lives On. (I thought I'd sent you a link to that one in PM. *Phew*) Skylark is definitely the most folky, perfect choice. Thanks so much for all the work you're doing on this! |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: UB Ed Date: 01 Aug 02 - 06:47 PM You know best Amos. Ed |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Mooh Date: 01 Aug 02 - 07:33 PM Amos, Someone pointed out to me that the traditional Welsh tune "Black Pig" is on the cd I sent you. It's real short (1:20), great filler, and features 2 mandolins (I'm the higher one) and accompaniment. If you're interested, use it. Btw, thanks for all your efforts with this. Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Sorcha Date: 01 Aug 02 - 08:05 PM Mooh, is "Marjorie, go feed the black pig"? What a neat song! I love it. Ya'll know, don't you, that Amos only did this so he could get free stuff from all of us? (*VBG*) |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 01 Aug 02 - 08:33 PM Oh, hell -- these Mudcat women are so damn psychic it hurts!! LOL! A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 01 Aug 02 - 08:35 PM Thanks, Mooh!! I'll give it a listen! Right now I am wrassling with re-assembling my stereo components in my home office so I can move songs through the equalizer to the MiniDisc recorder in order to get the digital file as clean as possible. Once I have handled that technical set up, I'll be able to run all the tape stuff ontot he hard disk fairly easily.

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Amos Date: 01 Aug 02 - 10:07 PM I'm trying to figger out how to make them songs on tape get into this here confuzer without they sound like wet snakes! A |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Sorcha Date: 01 Aug 02 - 10:41 PM Ah so. I am trying to figger out how to use my CD burner; it appears I have a "hardware failure" and must save all "non-reinstallable" programs so that I can re-install something. All this in order to get warranteed new hardware for my CD burner..........if I get a CD burner working, I will send you a CD........haven't yet figgered out how to make the mp3 thingies. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD VII: Silver Songs At Daybreak! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 02 Aug 02 - 01:14 AM Amos, I'm a little disappointed you aren't using my arrangement of Anarchy in the U.K. for bombarde' and noseflute, but I guess its up to you. Keep up the good work, Bubba. |
