Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 May 04 - 07:33 PM Lately, when I bend over to tie my shoes, I ask myself, "Is there anything else I should do while I'm down here?" |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Burke Date: 12 May 04 - 07:29 PM I used to love amusement parks, especially the roller coaster. I thought Disney's rides were too tame. Now I get an upset stomach & a headache on those rides that whip you around. Now I know why there are discounts for AARP. I used to be able to dance for hours. Now my right hip hurts too much after one Contra. I used to sleep straight through the night. (I've been 50 for just shy of 2 weeks, howcome I haven't gotten my Modern Maturity yet?) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Gurney Date: 13 May 04 - 06:56 AM I used to crouch to tie shoelaces or pick things up: now I bend. I used to cordially dislike vegetables: now I'll ask for seconds of Brussells Sprouts! As others have said, boozing is not worth the hangovers, and hair comes out of facial orifices. (orifi?) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: GUEST,noddy Date: 13 May 04 - 10:47 AM I used to win powerlifting competitions, now I come second in them even though I have improved? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 13 May 04 - 11:55 AM COmpetitions is just what they're called, noddy. Sounds like the competition has gotten a lot tougher over the years. Just the fact that you're still competing is impressive... Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: ToulouseCruise Date: 13 May 04 - 12:54 PM A while ago Sue wrote that she doesn't take her clothes off in front of perfect strangers any more. Same goes for me... I no longer require them to be Perfect. Brian. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Art Thieme Date: 13 May 04 - 04:08 PM When I was young and driving through the countryside on my way to gigs, I would see all these signs saying "CLEAN RESTROOMS !!!". I was never ever on time getting to my singing job---but I sure did clean a bunch of restrooms. I don't do that any more---mainly because I can't drive these days. Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 May 04 - 07:01 PM Whilst watching a music programme today (Top of the Pops 2, for those in the UK), I went through what I was doing at the time of each song. They only went back to 1974, but I was 10 then and remember it very clearly. Oddly enough, they were wearing the same style of clothes that Limpit wants to wear now.... flared jeans, big flowery shirts, glittery stuff and big shoes. The stuff from 1982 was even scarier.... And to think, I used to go to discos dressed like that.... *shudder* LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: YorkshireYankee Date: 13 May 04 - 09:29 PM I used to do Highland dancing... last time I tried it (last summer), while I was in the middle of a Fling, I had the distinct sensation of a tennis ball hitting the (underside of) the arch of my left foot -- I even looked down -- sure I would see a tennis ball rolling or bouncing away. Then I realised I couldn't put any weight on that foot without causing serious pain; the sensation of something hitting my foot was actually a ligament snapping... It was months before I could walk normally again. Haven't tried Highland dancing since... YY |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Metchosin Date: 13 May 04 - 10:39 PM Yorkshire Yankee! Finally a kindred spirit on Mudcat! I did the same damned thing, only I thought somebody had kicked me from behind and when I turned to see who the culprit was, I nearly collapsed with pain. Damned dangerous, those Highland flings. I now have a depression near my ankle, that aches during cold winter months and one leg with a calf muscle almost half the size of the other. It was initially misdiagnosed as a sprain, until the muscles in that leg leg started to atrophy. I had to have some lengthy physiotherapy when it was finally, somewhat properly, attended to. I haven't done any flings for a very long time. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 13 May 04 - 11:54 PM I still do everything I could do 30 years ago, but my God, it hurts! All of it. I would like to see my willie again before I die. Seamus |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: MAG Date: 14 May 04 - 12:55 AM I miss pot, but started having allergic reactions; my face swelled up like a melon. LONG timr, no use. had to quit dancing and doing stairs. and i hear you on the crouching. shoulder stand is a distant memory. dieting hasn't gone away; it is just more effort. i LIKE my white hairs. i earned every one of them. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: GUEST,noddy Date: 14 May 04 - 07:48 AM I have stopped putting highlights in my , nowadays I dont need to ! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: YorkshireYankee Date: 14 May 04 - 10:49 PM Metchosin... Yikes! Sounds pretty nasty -- my very sincere sympathies. Yes, those flings (& other Highland dances) are "dangerous" -- one of the most strenuous types of dancing I can think of.... but they are also such glorious, lively dances! I really miss being able to do it (even if I *did* end up with a bright red face & breathing like a dying accordion afterwards...) YY |
Subject: RE: BS: The Things I Used To Do From: Liz the Squeak Date: 15 May 04 - 04:32 AM Ah yes... I remember stripping the willow with great gusto... Now I need an oxygen mask and defibrilator on standby if I so much as go up the stairs too quickly. LTS |
