Subject: RE: BS: Town in England starting with F? From: GUEST,Marion Date: 05 Jan 06 - 12:02 AM Good Lord. How did this thread get to 52 posts? Alright Marion, now WHY did you need the name of an English town starting with F? It has to do with my sordid double life, so I'd rather not get into it here. I will tell you, though, that the winning entry was Faversham. Uh... carry on... if you want. Marion |

Subject: RE: BS: Town in England starting with F? From: Arnie Date: 06 Jan 06 - 10:58 AM Splott Man - Britain's smallest town is in fact Fordwich, nr. Canterbury - I know this 'cos that's what it says on the village hall, which is in fact the town hall. The Fordwich Arms used to host a folk club on a Sunday night.I recall that the landlord was an Irishman who needed little encouragement to knock out a few Irish songs at the end of the evening - good beer as well so it's a shame the club folded. |

Subject: RE: BS: Town in England starting with F? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 09 Jan 06 - 10:52 AM Farnsfield is only Fairly near Mansfield, Muppitz. But it is near Southwell, and not far from Newark. Mansfield was the smallest town in Britain without a railway station (until it got one a few years ago) and Newark - an anagram - is the smallest with two. Southwell is either the only village or the smallest town to boast a full-ranking diocesan cathedral (its parish council has redesignated itself as a town council). |
Subject: RE: BS: Town in England starting with F? From: GUEST Date: 09 Jan 06 - 12:04 PM If it's got a cathedral then surely it's a city! |
Subject: RE: BS: Town in England starting with F? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 09 Jan 06 - 09:28 PM yes its got a cathedral in nearby southwell, but I'm still doing my new song on Wednesday about pubic hair, which contains the couplet I think any man's a vill-ian who wants to give you a Brazilian I couldn't think of anything to rhyme with Brazilian, any offers? theres million, silly 'un, and pillion - but they don't fit in with the general sense |
Subject: RE: BS: Town in England starting with F? From: Mr Red Date: 10 Jan 06 - 07:56 AM I usually regail dancers (for the Nottingham Swing) with the tale of Snottingham (ham as in Anglo-Saxon for homestead eg hamlet)(ing as in posessive of )(the family of Snot) until someone pointed-out that there is much debate about the family name - it could have been Snod - my reaction is that Snod is just not as funny. |
