Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Catherine Jayne Date: 31 Dec 03 - 12:50 PM Mudguard.....It seems you are on the same flight back to London as Micca and I.....we could share a taxi to the airport if you like too???? Khatt |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Eric the Viking Date: 31 Dec 03 - 01:19 PM Thanks John, I'll try budget. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 31 Dec 03 - 07:35 PM catsPhiddle, yes, we could. Or we could declare Giok/John to be our taxi-driver ;-) I just checked the flight details again. And I must somehow have mixed up arrival time in Belfast with departure time. Seems to be the same flight from London to Belfast as well. My flights are London - Belfast: Friday, 30th January, Stansted 10:45, Belfast 12:05, easyjet flight no 253 Belfast - London: Monday, 2nd February, Belfast Intl 12:25, London 13:40, easyjet flight no 254 Btw, happy NEW YEAR 2004! Only 29 days to go! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Eric the Viking Date: 01 Jan 04 - 06:46 AM Where are you staying on the Sunday night Andy? I have only booked you in for Friday and Saturday nights. It might be that there is a bed in the hostel(probable) Do you want to check that out and make your own arrangements or wait until you get there? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 01 Jan 04 - 07:31 AM As I said at the time, the best deal last year was with Alamo (National). I don't suppose they're offering that deal this year, but they might be worth trying. You should also get a price from Dan Dooley's - they sometimes have the best prices. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 01 Jan 04 - 07:37 AM Eric, thanks for the hint, I somehow overlooked that - I will phone the hostel myself for booking the Sunday night! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Letty Date: 01 Jan 04 - 09:30 AM OK, I'll be coming by car from Cork on Friday. Anyone need a lift en route? I'm driving via Dublin, and will try to get to Portaferry using the ferry. Will there be ferry crossings in the evenings? Letty |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 01 Jan 04 - 09:38 AM Schedule of Strangford-Portaferry-Ferry last ferry departs Strangford at 10:30 on Friday nights... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 01 Jan 04 - 07:00 PM Letty, I have a pal who will be coming from Kilkeel. He's prepared to do it by buses, but is disabled (stroke) and might well appreciate a lift. If so, would you be willing to pick him up in Kilkeel? Or Newry, if you're going the inland route? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Jan 04 - 08:56 AM Did anybody ever do a complete list of those that are definitely coming? John |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 02 Jan 04 - 09:42 AM No, John, this job is still free - you can have it ;-) To give you some help, I will start the list: MudGuard (Andy) John the Giok ;-) Eric the Viking Micca Catsphiddle Fibula Mattock Letty Alanww + Sandy Skipjack Greg Noreen Mooman + Lady McMoo Peter K (Fionn) JudeL + ? Leadfingers (no guarantee that this list is complete or correct) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: mooman Date: 02 Jan 04 - 09:47 AM Tres malheuresement the Good Lady and I will not be able to come this time, the weekend unfortunately clashing simultaneously with our 25th wedding anniversary and our daughter's 16th birthday. We hope to see some combatants however at the Barton EuroGathering 2004. Wishing everyone a great weekend of music, song and friendship. Peace moo |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 02 Jan 04 - 10:07 AM Richard, could there be a better way to celebrate than a MudGathering? ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Jan 04 - 11:59 AM Quelle domage mon frere. I was so looking forward to the combat trousers, and the DMs. John |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Jan 04 - 12:02 PM Noreen? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 02 Jan 04 - 07:02 PM I think Noreen might have pulled out, perhaps because the dates are uncomfortably close to the recent publicised extravaganzes of the Shellback Tour? You may add to the list my daughter Sorcha (11), who should know perhaps three or four fiddle tunes by then, and as indicated in my last post, who is disabled but will enjoy listening to the music and walking amid the pleasant scenery. What abouit Felipa/Philippa? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Skipjack K8 Date: 02 Jan 04 - 07:49 PM Sorcha knows three more tunes than the rest of us, then! Nice to have the musicians' ranks swelled. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: mooman Date: 02 Jan 04 - 08:18 PM Dear John MacKenzie FNAG! Is my sartorial elegance so widely known on the 'Cat. I had even received some new combat trousers as my Christmas gift from the Good Lady McMoo and was going to give my newer brown nubuck DMs an outing! I hope we shall meet soon and wish you and all the attendees an excellent Portastock II. If a III is planned, I will definitely be over for that. Dear Andreas, You are quite right of course but the combined ranks of the female Clan McMoo members have me outvoted on this occasion I'm afraid! Peace moo |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 03 Jan 04 - 03:57 AM Richard, why did you let the women have a vote at all? ;-) Or why did you not at least give yourself 10 votes? ;-) See you at the Euro Gathering then... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 03 Jan 04 - 03:54 PM Just noticed a couple of words missing from my last post. I hesitate to spoil the image of my daughter heroically taking life by the scruff of the neck, in the face of cruel adversity, but before "who" in the fourth line I should have put "a chum".... It is the chum, not Sorcha, who is disabled (stroke damage). |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 04 Jan 04 - 04:57 AM Catsphiddle/Leadfingers/Micca: according to the Motor Hackney Carriages By-Laws, a taxi from Belfast International to Portaferry costs about 50 Pounds (roughly 45 miles, 1.1 Pounds per mile, first 1.5 miles cost 2.5 Pounds ==> 2.5 Pounds + 43.5 * 1.1 = 2.5 + 47.3 = 49.8 Pounds). Same price for the way back ==> 100 Pounds. Might it be cheaper to rent a car? (No idea of the prices) Or are you three non-drivers like me? Just an idea... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Catherine Jayne Date: 04 Jan 04 - 05:22 AM micca and I don't drive. We split the cab 3 ways last time which didn't cost that much when paid in that way. A cab is better than the bus!!!! Last year I think it cost £49 or £50. If there are 4 of sharing the taxi it will be £12.50 each! not long to go now!!! Khatt |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Letty Date: 04 Jan 04 - 05:48 AM Happy new year everyone! PeterK: I'd be happy to pick up your friend. I'll let you know if it's going to be Newry or Kilkeel: I haven't had a look at the map yet. You can PM me with details if you like. Letty |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 04 Jan 04 - 07:07 AM catsPhiddle: it was just a thought - no problem with the taxi... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Noreen Date: 04 Jan 04 - 07:13 AM Happy New Year all! Stewart and I will be joining you in Portaferry. Flights and hostel booked, just need to make car arrangements. Looking forward to our first holiday together :0) |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Leadfingers Date: 04 Jan 04 - 11:05 AM Cheapest Car hire I found was £120 for the weekend - and as the car is just going to sit outside the Hostel it seems a bit silly. The tax will be fine I think. By the way I have a mate who might well join in on Saturday just for the day - Good musician too. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 04 Jan 04 - 11:08 AM Ok, if the car hire is more expensive than the taxi the decision is made. As I said before, it was just an idea to save money because I guessed the car hire would be cheaper - it isn't, so forget the idea... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Catherine Jayne Date: 04 Jan 04 - 12:10 PM A car was a good idea Andy and if I could drive and was going to stay for longer than weekend then I would definately consider the idea.....maybe I'll be driving for Loughstock III in 2005!!! Looking forward to meeting up with everyone again!! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: John MacKenzie Date: 04 Jan 04 - 01:45 PM BUDGET £58 Friday to Monday John |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 04 Jan 04 - 05:43 PM That might not be a big enough motor for four plus instruments, John. But there's certainly no need to pay anything like £120. Leadfingers, have you tried Alamo/National and Dan Dooley, both of which have bases at Aldergrove? Letty, thanks. I'll send you a PM. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Fibula Mattock Date: 04 Jan 04 - 06:00 PM Quick update from Portaferry while I'm still here (was over for the new year, heading back to Bristol tomorrow): We have 2 (TWO) cash machines now - count 'em an' weep. Both are in the Square. Dumigan's is under new management - don't know what the music situation will be because of this, but I'll check it out. There's a new session that has started up on Tuesday nights in Sand's, at the bottom of Church Street/corner of Ann Street, but I don't know if there'll be music at a weekend in there as the room is often used for other things. I'll have the family folks put out feelers and find out what's going on. I'm sorry to hear that the moos won't be coming, but I'll see yous for the Eurogathering, all being well. Peter K - I've only started on the fiddle, so all being well I'll know 3 or 4 tunes by then, so Sorcha will be in good company! See you all soon... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 04 Jan 04 - 06:18 PM Ohoh - so I will have to decide WHICH one of the 25 days... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Noreen Date: 04 Jan 04 - 07:16 PM John, BUDGET's advertised price doesn't include VAT or 'location charge' etc, so ends up being more expensive than other quotes. Dan Dooley looks good so I'll ring them in the morning to check a couple of details. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Noreen Date: 04 Jan 04 - 07:20 PM Now, is it the Stone outside Dan Dooley's door, or Won't you come home Dan Dooley that this makes me think of? Or another song entirely? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 05 Jan 04 - 03:49 AM Maybe you thouhgt of Oh Danny Dooley Boy, the cars, the cars are hooting ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Micca Date: 05 Jan 04 - 06:04 AM or perhaps "dan dan dooley dooley dooley watch that dan dan do, dan dan do"? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: Noreen Date: 05 Jan 04 - 07:52 AM :0) No, it was Hang down your head Dan Dooley ! Which he doesn't need to do, as Dan Dooley is far cheaper than the others- we've just hired a car for 5days for £95.70 compared with over £130 for any of the main car hire companies. Portaferry here we come! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 05 Jan 04 - 08:07 AM Noreen, I thought we'd agreed it was 'Come ye back, Dan Dooley, to Ballyjamesduff'! Despite partially true rumours that I have been annexed by the Viking, I will be coming, as I have a couple of free pints to collect from Frank in the Fiddler's. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: My guru always said Date: 05 Jan 04 - 11:43 AM Not long now.... Will have a couple of seats (& boot space) spare if anyone matches our times at the Airport. Let me know.... Can't wait! So sorry the Moo's can't make it! Subject: RE: Mudcat Meet Ireland 2004: Loughstock II From: MudGuard Date: 05 Jan 04 - 12:00 PM A fruit cake has fruit inside, a chocolate cake has chocolate inside, so a pancake has pans inside - whole pans or small pieces of pans? ;-) Ah - language is unlogic! rain code: protects against rain children's coat: does NOT protect against children... ;-) |
