It seems that some forms of herpes can be cured by glycyrrhizic acid, which is found in licorice. Don't all rush to the sweetshop at once.

Of course glycyrrhizic acid kills the cells, they are trying to PRONOUNCE it!!!

Don't try this if you have high blood pressure! Licorice can cause it to go even higher.

Well that's one thing sorted,.... now how do you cure the trots brought on my eating tons of liquorice or the terminal embarassment caused by spelling 'liquorice' incorrectly?

The findings are investigatory, there is no recommendation that GA in licorice be added to the list of treatments.

The effect of licorice on blood pressure is well-known (warning by Katlaughing); it also is linked with severe Hypokalemic Paralysis.

See articles on line from the Mayo Clinic.

Where do those Q spellings come from? The English!

Licorice is the recognized spelling in Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary;, it is given as the alternate spelling in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Will there be yearly pilgrimmages to Pontefract for the cure, with Hair-bo Shirts and other means of Pennants sold to the faithfull?

Will all this finally spawn us the Second Coming of Chaucer?

Will the Fabulous Anisettes be providing the entertainment? (Shoop! Shoop!)

I know how they came up with the English spelling...same way Reeses Peanut Butter Cups came into being....someone carrying liquor bumped into someone carrying rice and the two mixed up to make a totally new confection!**bg** (lame, I know, but couldn't stop myself.)

Wudja believe it? The English once kneu how to spell-

1205: "And gingiuere & licoriz he hom lefliche (backward z)ef."
Holland, 1602 spelled it licorice. Some guy in 1542 stuck a q in it. Fifteen or so spellings are listed in the OED that were used in the past.
Or use the scientific name, Glycyrrhiza glabra.

Chervil may be used as a substitute in cooking.

The freebie local newspaper arrived yesterday and tells me that "Pontefract Liquorice Fesival is promising allsorts of tasty treats over a spectacular nine days." July 7 to 15th this year.

Web site : http://www.pontefractliquorice.co.uk/

And it was used as a sweetener because liquorice is, if I recall correctly, the sweetest natural subsance known.

Quack!
GtD.

The original spelling of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups reflected the monkeys they originally tested them on. The Rh factor was dropped for some reason.

If you think 'licorice' is bad, you ought to see how they originally spelled 'anise'.

coltsfoot rock - now there's a sweet to die for - not much coltsfoot in mouth - mostly a delicate hint of liquorice (as Word - English (English) spells it)

I spell it yummy anyway.

I think you should name the periodical responsible for that terrible pun.
