My Father, John Topham passed away suddenly in the early hours of Thursday morning. He wasnt much of a musician and sang completely out of tune but he loved music. He was a fantastic father, grandfather and great grandfather. A descendant of Robert Burns who was very proud of his heritage. I shall miss him so much. The world is a lesser place without him.
Just letting my friends know I will be out of circulation for a little while and up North with my Mum.

My Father died two years ago, and I still miss him and my mother died 17 years ago and still miss her, both died while I was on holiday with them.

So I know how it feels when your parent dies

I come from a tradition that says when one leaves, we look for their voice in others. Lucy, my dear, your Father's voice is safe and secure in you. In one title and a very short paragraph, you captured the essence of this man in a way that made me wish I had met him. Grieve, yet celebrate your great good fortune at being of his line, and having him in your life. Be sure the wee ones to come know of this man. Pass on his love of his heritage.

Lucy, I too had a lovely Dad. He's been gone over twenty years but I still sometimes think he'll be coming up to our door with a big bag of goodies from his allotment, as in former years He was a great gardener. It was hard to lose him but I took solace in knowing he was at last released from severe pain.

Let yourself grieve and in time the sadness will give way to happy memories. Treat yourself gently.

Oh, Lucydarlin'...my love and condolences to you and your mom. This brings my own grief at losing my dad three years ago close to mind and heart. It is not easy losing a parent. I still miss him and my mom so much. May you follow Catspaw's advice and find comfort in your memories.

There is a bloody big hole in your life with VERY raw edges and for a long time to come, those edges will be VERY painful to touch.
As time passes, the edges will, up to a point, heal.
You will be able to touch them, but not too roughly.
But the hole will remain.

My condolences, Lucy. My own dad just passed away this past Thursday, and, while his passing was neither unexpected nor really mourned, as he was well on in years and had been in poor health and on "hospice" status for over a year, it is still hard to accept that someone who has been such a part of your life for so long is no longer here with us "on this side."
