So, are we gonna have naked apes on the telly now?
Chimp reality shows! Yea! (go ahead, try to steal that last banana, you sucker....)
Chimp dating games?
Ape Trivia?
The Secret History of Chimpanzees?
Who Survived the Circus?
Was Washoe really literate?

I could get into this in a big way!
Go Chongo!

Chongo is chomping at the bit, Bobert! He is eager to take on the task of making American TV 100% better than it is now....and that wouldn't really be that hard, would it? ;-)

JeeZUS! How did I miss this thread all this time?

Hey, Stilly, that was one hell of a funny song you posted back there. YEE-HAH!

Okay...Bobert...

The way I see it, there are a coupla possibilities.

1. Maybe you're not showing enough skin?

2. You've offended Teribus, and he's PM'd all his many, many political friends here...(ahem!)...to give you the silent treatment from now on?

3. George Bush has had Homeland Security blacklist you?

4. You're not showing enough skin?

(No, wait, I already said that, didn't I?)

Hell, maybe it's just the wrong time of year or something. ;-)

He has been quiet for a couple of days.

Is frost threatening the last of his garden crops? I've had to cover the remaining tomatoes once (I'm in a warmer zone). He may be getting ready to freeze and cook and can what's left.

Great time of year for putting in soup veggies.

Ya know I love you, Bobert, so all I will say is what I think I said when you first joined, and that is that the dialect your character affects in text is very distracting to the fine thoughts that go on in that wise (old!) head of yours. You don't talk that way in person, and sometimes? I just don't have the patience to sort through all the hillbillyisms.

Also I agree with most of what you say about Bush, so I usually don't bother to read your political posts anymore since I assume that I know what they will say for the most part, and since I assume I will usually agree with them.

So sing some stuff like "Galveston" and "Black Snake Moan" and forget the anti-war, anti-Bush stuff. Hell, Bobert, I double-dare you to sing "Ballad of the Green Berets." No, I triple-dare you!

Seriously, just sing some regular stuff.

You might also be surprised. There's a whole different deal out there now -- supporting soldiers isn't supporting Bush, et al. It's not like it was during the 'Nam Time, although some folks don't understand that. Ya see, by calling up so many Reserve and NG units, Bush personalized this war: relatives, friends, neighbors are gone, not some faceless draftee from the ghetto. And those folks are coming back and being sent again and again and again, which makes the relatives, friends, neighbors, and employers a bit pissed off. So they show their support for the guys who have been taken, which doesn't necessarily translate into support for the folks who sent them.

Just do some regular stuff and you'll be cool.

Yellow Ribbon? That would be the original...around her neck... rather than the other one.

I'd plead for you to be very careful. Many of us experienced the anti-war movement of the 60s as an anti-soldier (anti-us!) movement rather than what it was intended to be. Having a seven-year-old girl sent over by her mother in an airport to ask how many babies I had killed (I was in uniform, just returned from Vietnam and just got out of the Army) left an indelible impression. A concert to support the soldier and to support the families is not the time and place for anti-war songs, because the message gets confused very quickly and will never get unconfused.

There's also "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay."

I find it very easy to support the troops without supporting you-know-who and his whatchamacallit.

And here's an interesting tid-bit from the "Letters" section of the most recent issue of "Legion" magazine (the official voice of the American Legion): a CWO writes from Iraq that US bases there are not permitted to fly the US flag for fear that it would a) make the US look like an occupying force (duh!) and b) might anger some of the indigenous people (double duh!).

Maybe I'll just go out and do "Masters of War" and see how that goes over...

I'm in deep poo here...

Guess that I'll do the first 15 minute version of "Drummer Boy"... Hope my harp player shows... Gonna be a long 15 minutes...

(No, Bobert... Why not just do one of yer 10 minute rants about the Bush administration and how screwed up the Iraq War is???)

Hmmmmmmm??? Now there's an idea...

Definately NOT!!!

Like I said, I'm is the deep poo here.... But I have experience in being in deep poo...

Well, Eb, it's an obscure song that was wriiten by Fred Dobbs... It was covered by an obscure band, Hearts Field...

I used to do it back in the 70's in coffee house performances...

"Way back many years ago, way back many years ago
Once upon a spring time... of 1861
The country was divided then, the country was divided then
Different ways of livin'... cross the Mason Dixon Line

Lived way back a Southern way, lived way back a Southern way
Ayoung boy and his mama and a ahome that daddy built
Two men knockin' at the door, tweo men knockin' at the door
Lookin' for a volunteer... to be a drummer boy

Chorus:

Sonny Boy wants to leave his home
Sonny Boy wants to be a man
Th keep the time of the marchin' feet
He's off to be... a drummer boy

Mama, mama, can you hear, Mama, mama, can you hear
The cannons on the distant shores
There was hope for freedom... and an end to war

He drummed so strong and traveled far
He drummed so strong and traveled far
At Richmond and at Shiloh and the fields of Gettysburg

Gun shot thundered over head, gun shot thundered over head
The horrors that a war can bring for a young boy's eyes to see

Chorus

Mama, mama, don't you cry... Mama, mama, don't you cry
Your son is sure a hero
Thank the Lord if he comes home

Chorus"

***Well, that might not be the exact words that Fred Dobbs wqrote but I think it's purdy close... That's the way I always have done it... No, it ain't a blues song... Think about a marching drum... That's the way I do it... 1-5-4 chords... Pick yer key...

The Drummer Boy of Shiloh^^^
(Will S. Hays)

On Shiloh's dark and bloody ground
The dead and wounded lay,
Amongst them was a drummer boy
Who beat the drums that day.
A wounded soldier held him up
His drum was by his side;
He clasped his hands, then raised his eyes
And prayed before he died.
He clasped his hands, then raised his eyes
And prayed before he died.

Look down upon the battle field,
Oh, Thou our Heavenly Friend!
Have mercy on our sinful souls!
The soldiers cried, "Amen! "
For gathered 'round a little group,
Each brave man knelt and cried.
They listened to the drummer boy
Who prayed before he died.
They listened to the drummer boy
Who prayed before he died.

"Oh, mother," said the dying boy,
"Look down from Heaven on me,
Receive me to thy fond embrace-
Oh, take me home to thee.
I've loved my country as my God;
To serve them both I've tried."
He smiled, shook hands---death seized the boy
Who prayed before he died;
He smiled, shook hands---death seized the boy
Who prayed before he died.

Each soldier wept, then, like a child,
Stout hearts were they, and brave;
The flag his winding sheet, God's Book
The key unto his grave.
They wrote upon a simple board
These words: "This is a guide
To those who'd mourn the drummer boy
Who prayed before he died;
To those who'd mourn the drummer boy
Who prayed before he died."

Ye angels' round the Throne of Grace,
Look down upon the braves
Who fought and died on Shiloh's plain,
Now slumb'ring in their graves!
How many homes made desolate?
How many hearts have sighed?
How many, like that drummer boy,
Who prayed before they died;
How many, like that drummer boy,
Who prayed before they died!^^^

This coming Saturday night, Page County is having a little "Support the Troops" concert at the high school and about 8 performers and/or bands will be playin'... I only have one song that is topical... It's an ol' song entitled "Drummer Boy" that probably no one here has ever heard of about a drummer boy during the War Between the States...

Seein' as we're 'sposed to do 15 minutes, I reckon I could do this song if I had the words...

Can you help me with 'um???

That Los Lobos song strikes me as being miles above, both in execution and in content, any Beatles recording. But that's just me; I'm sure it isn't fair to compare such unlike songs.

(You may have noticed that I'm not a Beatles fan. They lost me with their first five or so songs but I have no objection to listening to any song if I cannot tell it's the Beatles. :)

What I am afraind of is the tool dox that Bush will be leaving for the next prez... Ain't like all this "executive power" is gonna evaporate when Bush leaves... He and Cheney have carved out quite a bit of power that passes on, regardless of who is next...

Lotta Bushites don't think about that... They should 'cause with the tools the Bush is leaving Hillary, she could just declare all Bushites as war criminals and send the entire bunch of them to some secret prison in some other country...

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, Capt'n, but that's the scenerio... Executive powers are here to stay...

Ahhhhh, I have the LosLobios song loading, Brucie, but with mty pea-shooter dial up it may yake a couple hours...

Then I can get 'round to SRS's...

And there are other similarities, as well, such as putting innocents at risk.
