Subject: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Rockhen Date: 30 Jul 08 - 07:40 AM Anyone going to Cropredy who can give any useful advice about the festival? It is the first time we have been to a festival. As we got chance to go to this one but know very little about it, we want to make the most of it. There is a lot of info here, but I would like to hear if anyone can offer any other info or make any personal recommendations of things not to miss/to avoid! :-) Cropredy site Thanks! |

Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: GUEST,Arnie at work Date: 31 Jul 08 - 04:34 AM Take some warm clothing and/or a blanket for the evening - it gets pretty cold later on in that field! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: The Greyt Hound Date: 31 Jul 08 - 04:57 AM Cropredy is really good. i think the best place to sit is just in front of the sound tower. A bit of shade and also a waypoint to help you find your friends again after you have gone to the loos and got lost. If you are camping then there are different field depending on whether you are going with kids. Some of the campsites have clean showers which are really good. Food Lots of nice stalls with a great choice of food. Leons is great if you like veggie food. On a morning the village hall normally does an amazing cooked breakfast which is really reasonable. Retail opportunities Lovely stalls with some nice colourful clothes, jewellry etc. (take lots of money) Kids There is entertainment for them at the top of the field. Chairs are a must if you can carry them. THe queue to get in starts quite early each day but it depends on how close to the front you want to be as to whether you go in early. This is such a friendly festival, last year we took our greyhound and the people around us were so kind, making sure that no one crushed him when they walked past. Organisation is good getting people sorted into camping spots but you need to check what time the campsites open. Be prepared for a long queue to get in to camp!!! I would make sure that you take lots of bottles of water with you as when it is hot you soon run out and the water is quite expensive. You also have to queue for ages in the village shop if you want stuff. Hope this helps and enjoy it. Can't afford to go this year as I was just made redundant. Another other questions feel free to ask and I will try to answer them or private message me. Ruth |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 31 Jul 08 - 05:00 AM Take a fold up chair, blanket, cagoule, umbrella, wellies, sun hat, sunglasses, sun cream and in the other hand........ Cropredy is always fun, but get there early to get a good pitch. Don't miss the "Meet on the Ledge" finale, you won't feel more camaraderie anywhere. Jon |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 31 Jul 08 - 05:01 AM Just turn up and enjoy it. You'll be in a charming part of England, at a perfect canal-side location, and you will hear some truly worldclass musicians. But do heed Arnie's advice. If you have a good place in the field you will not want to leave it to get more clothing. I usually took a sleeping-bag, which could be used as either a headrest or for warmth. Oh, and if possible, go by barge! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Rockhen Date: 31 Jul 08 - 12:42 PM Hey thanks for all the advice! Really useful! Cheers! Will stock up on water and blankets etc before we go! Looking forward to it. :-) |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 31 Jul 08 - 12:56 PM Don't know why I said "barge." Hope Greg Stephens doesn't notice. I meant "narrowboat." |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Bonzo3legs Date: 31 Jul 08 - 05:11 PM I hope that the lavatorial facilities are better than when we last went to Cropredy - shouldn't be difficult as they were appalling! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: GUEST,Leila.... Date: 31 Jul 08 - 06:09 PM Be prepared for a great time..! I love it!! See you there..... |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Rockhen Date: 31 Jul 08 - 07:10 PM Not too worried re the toilets as we have managed to borrow a motor caravan for it...wimps, or what! So, Leila, is there a mudcat badge to wear, or something?! Hi, anyway! Will be sporting a dainty red accordion, whenever possible, if that is any help, although I know I am supposed to be listening to others most of the time! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: GUEST,Leila.. Date: 01 Aug 08 - 03:34 AM I will look out for the red accordion......! You are right not to be worried about the toilets... I think the arnt too bad considering.. they can get abit dodgy late Saturday night, but the amount of 6X consumed its not suprising! I do a few festivals over the year but I will say... Cropredy is the highlight for me! Not my fave line up this year, as last years could never be beaten... but I go thinking there is not many on the line up I'm really excited about, then I'm suprised... and come away thinking how good it was.. so I trust their choice... they are often right! Just need to get The Duncan McFarlane Band there... a Saturday afternoon slot would be perfect for them.. |

Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: Rockhen Date: 10 Aug 08 - 01:37 PM Oh well...so much for the hopes re the weather yesterday! Thursday and Friday were great though and we still had a fantastic time, yesterday in spite of the mud. Hope all who went had as good a time as us. First festival for us but definitely not going to be our last, if we can help it! Must remember I am not 20 still, though, my ankles still hurt from 'dancing' to the Levellers set! |
Subject: RE: Anyone going to Cropredy 2008? From: paula t Date: 11 Aug 08 - 03:54 PM A great weekend! It was a shame it rained on Saturday - but I had my wellies , waterproofs and Wadsworths, so all was right with the world. The sun seemed to come out when Legend played. We danced all the way through their performance.Fairport's set was fantastic. I have to admit I shed a few tears seeing the pride on Chris While's face as she sang with Kelly. One of those moments! |
