From: John on the Sunset Coast

PETA, the organization which has compared the killing of chickens to the slaughter of Jews and others in the Holocaust strikes again. This insensitive (to human beings) organization has prepared an ad comparing the slaughter and cannibalism on the Canadian bus last week to killing animals for food. So far as I can tell, thankfully, no media has actually run the ad.

If you think I make this up (I couldn't if I tried), google, as I did, "Peta Canadian killer adv".

this is why I hate PETA

I love animals and that's why I can't agree with these nutbags. They are forever sending me junk mail (because I am a member of a couple "real" animal charities" and I "return to sender" with the website reference in the blue clickie written on the envelope. I don't know if anyone sees it, but it makes me feel better.

I lost respect for them ages ago, when they launched these types of ad campaigns. I'm all for pushing buttons, but they seem to go ahead with these ads, and never sit back and think-should we, is this too much? This is way too much.

I wish I could remember the exact quote, but I can't.

I recently heard/read someone characterize the membership of PETA as clueless high-school girls, and boys who don't give a shit about animals but want to impress the girls. Or, funnier words to that effect.

Pedant alert: I couldn't help but notice that the "PETA Kills Animals" website linked above refers to Californai as "the Sunshine State." Florida is the Sunshine State; California is the Golden State. (Kansas is the Sunflower State, New Jersey is the Garden State ~ need I go on?)

Ignorance of official state nicknames shouldn't invalidate an organization's arguments, but I can't help but notice piddling details like this...

comparing the slaughter and cannibalism on the Canadian bus last week to killing animals for food

Is that a problem on Canadian public transport as a whole, or just the buses? And there's me thinking things were bad in the UK...

I think the PETA has a point. They call attention to the brutalization of animals such as
stripping alligator skins off of them while they are ALIVE. They also call attention to the clubbing of seals to make fur coats for rich ladies. They call attention to the inhumane treatment given to poultry by factory farming...not to mention pig farming and the cattle industry.

Those who bitch about PETA are not getting it. There is a lot of inhumanity in the world.
The meat, dairy and poultry industry have kept up a good campaign to disguise their
maltreatment of animals and I'm sure there are plenty of folks who don't care about this.

No, Frank, I do get it. There is a lot of gratuitous cruelty to animals. But to compare the use of killing of animals for food to the holocaust, or to the insane butchery of a sleeping man likewise, is crossing the line of propriety, IMO.

Stringsinger,

If you think that the seals are killed only for fur coats for rich ladies then PITA has successfully lied to you. Its like saying that cattle are killed to make 500 dollar shoes for John McCain.

But you also have obviously missed John's point, which is that they are dishonest and no lie is too broad for them and no exaggeration too extreme. These are sick people trying to stir up irrational hatred.

The positives are all well and good, but I don't think its bitching about PETA to say that they could find a less controversial way of publicizing their agenda. What about the family of the young man who was killed on that bus? Don't you think they have a say in what amounts to the trivialization of his murder by those good folks at PETA?

PITA lies about it all.

Its well and good to say eating meat and any other exploitation of animals is immoral. That is their agenda. It is well and good to debate the pros and cons and let people decide for themselves democratically. But that's not what they do. Is it?

They also say that ALL dogs are 'enslaved' by humans, and have been known to go to dog shows and let all the unattended dogs out of the crates. They also 'freed' a lot of mink on a mink farm. These were raised in captivity and had NO idea how to survive in the wild. Most died, but the ones that didn't were found under or back in the unlocked cages.

Sure, they 'save' animals. I have NO respect for these lying idiots.

Jack... democratically? Fook that. My buddies up country will gladly take in any PETA's that wanna stay with them and help them scratch a living out of the fly infested bog country of Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada, where potatoes and pulp are supplemented by deer, moose, grouse and the odd porcupine.

These asshole yuppies pray upon the wallets of the young and stunned with seal pup eyes and rose gardens. They are the predators.

Yes John,

The organization seems to prey up the correlation between naive and air headed enough to take one's clothes off for strangers and being naive and air headed to think that animals equal to people. I call it the Bardot effect.

Plenty of young women are willing to whore out their bodies for what they call "animal rights". That's why plenty of young men join up.

I am acquainted with a fanatic who is in PETA and after what I've seen and heard from her, I believe PETA is a cult (not a religious cult, but definitely fits the criteria of a cult). When I saw the news about their reaction to the bus murder, I thought, "I'm not surprised."

Their sense of the sensational is exceeded only by their lack of human decency.

Conderning the above comments about polar bears and coyotes; after 18 years as a park ranger, I'm convinced that PETA and other extremists got their knowlegdge about nature from watching "Bambi". I've heard a number of people state that "Man is the only predator in the woods". If that doesn't fit with "Bambi", I don't know what does.

I wonder exactly when in the history of our species PETA thinks it became immoral to kill or eat animals? 2000 years ago? 10,000? 40,000? 1,000,000? We are OMNIVORES...our entire evolutionary history has equipped and directed us to eat almost anything we can find.
Some folks avoid meat for presumed health reasons...fine...but for most it is BBES ........ Big Brown Eyes Syndrome.

Peta is trying to foist their religion, veganism, on the world in the guise of concern for animals.

They are just as much religious fanatics as the radical Islamists who want the world under Sharia Law or the
far-right Christian Fundamentalists who want the world governed by the Ten Commandments - their interpretation, of course.

In their minds, the end justifies the means.

Why is everyone so surprised when they do something like this?
