Subject: RE: BS: So if Cod liver oil is good for you From: VirginiaTam Date: 06 Feb 09 - 08:45 AM As a sufferer of rheumatoid arthritis, I was advised to try and did try supplements for the sake of my joints. Unforutnately they are either mixed with minerals and/or vitamin C and so tore my tummy up. So I am not taking. I wonder if perhaps given the reduced fish stocks that it should be only a prescribable supplement for those with diagnosed joint problems? Nah! A nightmare to administrate and drug companies won't touch production of naturally available herbs and oils because they can't patent them. We are all f*cked! |

Subject: RE: BS: So if Cod liver oil is good for you From: Alice Date: 08 Feb 09 - 01:00 PM snip "However, for heart health, a fish oil dietary supplement is recommended by most medical experts and naturopathic practitioners. ALA needs to be converted to DHA and EPA in the body....and this conversion does not always take place, especially for people who are in less than optimal health. This would include many elderly folks. On the other hand, if you're in good health flax seed ALA may be converted by the body to DHA and EPA. Thus, when the heart is concerned in the flax oil vs fish oil debate, fish oil wins in our opinion since you can get the crucial DHA and EPA directly through a quality fish oil. For brain health and symptoms like depression, a fish oil dietary supplement is recommended for much the same reasons. The brain needs large amounts of DHA, but if the body needs the ALA for some other reason, it may not ever be converted to DHA." from this article We evolved eating meat and fish. |

Subject: RE: BS: So if Cod liver oil is good for you From: the lemonade lady Date: 10 Feb 09 - 11:00 AM Hear hear! I just know that I can't take a life. I have tried, and because it wasn't necessary, failed miserably. We can now live without meat or fish; I am very healthy and fit and have been veggie for 29 years. If I had to kill an animal, which to me means end it's life taking the life and soul of the creature, I would have to be desperately hungry. It really isn't necessary in the 21st century and if we feel we should eat meat, we should experience first hand killing of an animal. I also think that all 6th formers should be forced to witness what goes on in slaughter yards. Sal |
