Hi Les,

not feeling too well at the moment - got a spot of tonsilitis!
So wont be playing I'm afraid, but may well pop in for a hour. Will be interesting to have a listen for a change.

Well, another grand night of tunes. Thanks to Rob, Ged, Chris, Steve, Brian, Ken, Brakyn, Phil, Mickey, Jen and that bloke that borrowed various shakey things of Mickey's. I thought he showed talent and not a little restraint. It's a pity he nipped off before I could thank him.

It's looking good for a bit of social dancing after Bollin's Evening of Dance on June Tuesday 30th. The Beer Garden is a bit sruffy but a good size and shape. So who ever turns up is in The Beech Band and Rob will call some dances

Thanks again

I'm raking through the Radio Times to see what's on next Wednesday at nine...

BBC1 - The Apprentice (which is top viewing in Chez Sedayne)
BBC2 - Kate Adie Returns to Tienanmen Square
BBC3 - Lara Croft: Tombraider
BBC4 - Feasts (looks interesting)
Channel 4 - Embarrassing Bodies
ITV - Cops on Cameras
Channel 5 - The World's Strongest Toddler

A choice line-up for sure, without going into the realms of Sky and lesser digital channels. Committed telly addicts (such as ourselves) really ought to have a PVR so you never miss a thing.

Of course Pip might have an entirely different Idiot Lantern in mind.

Maybe others coming tonight could think of songs with 'Knee-ish' connections?

and if you'll allow me to throw in a tune or two, how about

There is a very apt African American spiritual sung in the Georgia Sea Islands 'Kneebone Bend' which I'd really, really love to come and sing at the Beech tonight, but it is such a lovely summer evening that I'm going to sit back with a bottle or three of Black Sheep rather than drive down the M56. Another time maybe. Have a good evening.

Matthew

"Bend my kneebone to the ground,
Ah, kneebone
Bend my kneebone to the ground,
O Lord, kneebone bend."

Well Matthew I can understand the temptation and thanks for the song I feel sure John would have enjoyed it.

Thanks also to Ged, Anne, John, John, Alan, Martin, Dave, Bob, Sue, Nigel, John, Sandra, Phil, Claudine, Patricia, Brian, Ken, Olga, Helen, Jeanette, Keith and his mate who drifted in and couldn't escape, those two women who sat in the door way, all the fish that had to die to make that pint the clearest I have ever seen and to Phil, although he wasn't there, I feel he was in spirit, and I have missed him off a couple of times.

Looking forward to June 17 for more great singing and June 30 for the Bollin Evenig of Dance.

Thanks again

Les

Well once again its almost time for our musical extravaganza that is the Beech Singaround, on Wed 17th June, nominally kicking off with a few tunes at 8 o'clock and getting the singing underway around half past 8.

And don't forget to sample the vast range of cask ales..... Oh no, I'm begining to sound like Les!!

Actually Les will be sampling the French Beers (and possibly some wine) since he is currently taking his ease across the channel. However I'm sure we will get by without him for one night : )

See you there....

cheers
Ged

Well thanks to all who turned up last night, It was a little quieter than some of the evenings we've had recently but none the worse for that. It all went rather smoothly I thought, apart from the heckler in the doorway late on. No doubt he had been sampling freely the selection of fine ales on offer!

No doubt you'll be relieved to hear that Les will be back at the helm for the next singaround.

And don't forget for those Morris enthusiasts we have a wonderful evening of Morris Dancing, followed by some Country Dancing back at the Beech. This will be starting off at the Bowling Green Pub in Chorlton (next to Chorlton Green) at 8:00 pm on Tue 30th June, the last Tues of this month (note that this replaces our normal Beginners Tunes Session but bring your instruments cos we can play for the country dancing later on).

cheers

Ok that's enough of that.

I think Ged mentioned above Tuesday 30 June the wild and exciting Bollin Morris visit Chorlton - The Bowling Green at 8 and so on, finishing with the Massed Beech Tune Players and country dances led by Rob Phillips.

And by chance, Wednesday is the first one of July and hence a Singaround at the Beech!

Thanks to Barbara, Ged, Phil, Alan, Kate, Dave, Dave, Dave, John, Brian, Martin, Claudine, Ken, Olga and Helen.

Another excellent evening of songs and not a bad couple of tunes - coming together nicely.

I thought Dave' song about Shipston's (?) beer was priceless. He described how a friend of his had made up the song in the late 50's or early sixties and sang it at The Singers Club as an old song from Nottinham. McColl recognised a piss take and chucked him out.

I cannot believe we get the story and the song nearly a thousand years later.

Cheers

Every month I make a resolution to go to this session, and every month something turns up to prevent it. THis Wednesday, for example, Kate's mum's band is playing at our local in Stoke, so we've got to go and support that, haven't we? But one day, we'll get to Chorlton

Another brilliant night and I have to say it took some organising. I had to put my banjo in it's bag, put it on my back, go out of our front door and walk nearly a mile to the Beech.

Thanks to Helen, accordian and songs, Claudine songs in French and her friend, John, song and smallpipes, Norman, Brian, Sue, Bob, also song and smallpipes, Alan, Karen & Shelley songs, guitar, recorder - (Bailey Sisters - tomorrow @ On The Eight day, then Saddleworth), Martin, Phil songs and whistle, Dave, Phil & Sandra, Nick, bongos, Ged, songs and melodeon, and Mike. Special thanks to Pete - a song in German and a brilliant story about the meeting of his English grandfather with his German grandfather with Pete as translator and Lilly Marlene as the point of contact.

The Guardian weather predicts rain but as it always does, as do most weather on-line services (ie 30% chance sometime in the next 48 hours) am I on safe but damp ground?

Maybe it will be fine and sunny - we just need a song from your good self to dispell the clouds!
