Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Mick Tems Date: 11 Aug 09 - 12:18 PM That's marvellous, Barry. Joe Stead has suprised us all with some great videos - yourself, Jim Couza (who sadly died on August 2), and Calennig, a blast from the past taken Harry Secombe's Highway programme!) Good man, Joe! |

Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: SINSULL Date: 11 Aug 09 - 09:42 PM Nice job Barry. I watched as that was filmed too. Floors were tumbleweed free for a change and George is standing to your left - just a glimpse of him but he is there. |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Janie Date: 11 Aug 09 - 09:55 PM One comment directed at those who have not seen Barry sing otherwise. The Youtube video is nice, but the sound quality does not adequately convey the passion, nuance and emotional power Barry brings to these work songs and shanties. He is absolutely awesome, as opposed to just very good. |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: stallion Date: 12 Aug 09 - 03:46 AM mmmmmmmmm I have been banging on about barry's performances ever since i saw him in Portsmouth and we were lucky to have him and the equally marvelous Ken Schatz across the pond this year, last month indeed. I have to say that in my opinion this years Scarborough Seafest was the best and Barry and Ken's contribution to that was immense, along with DebC cap'n Birdseye Banjiman et al. I am astonished that the wild man from Barstan isn't a household name! |

Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Barry Finn Date: 13 Aug 09 - 11:40 AM Seamus, you gotta do something really bad to rate a place on the "chain". You're to much of a good boy & besides they would last long working with you humor, can't laugh & work at the same time. Janie, you'll find me again at the Getaway this yr, though I may still be lost Thanks for all the kind comments Barry |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: GUEST Date: 13 Aug 09 - 12:27 PM Seamus; It's kind of the same way as boats, they don't sing like that in jail anymore either. |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: olddude Date: 13 Aug 09 - 12:28 PM guest even if they did they sure would sound as good as Barry |

Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Aug 09 - 02:30 PM Thanks Genie, I never knew about that video. Who's the guy with the drum giving me some lip? :) Barry |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Genie Date: 14 Aug 09 - 02:35 PM Some Brit who fancies himself an Irishman, I think. ; ) The video's been in my computer since last October. I'm finally making some headway in dealing with hours of video footage. (It's fun but very time consuming.) You sound great. I have another one of you and Mick. A song about a guy named McCarty. It should be up soon. G |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Janie Date: 14 Aug 09 - 09:51 PM Wonderful! |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Barry Finn Date: 14 Aug 09 - 11:47 PM That's great Genie, thanks, can't wait to see it, what surprizes. The song about "some guy named McCarty" would be the "WOOLLOOMOOLOO LAIR". I don't remember if I accompanied myself on bodhran on that & if I did weither it was Mick's drum or mine. Probably mine, it takes Mick a long time to get his out of it's "shell". :-) Barry |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Genie Date: 15 Aug 09 - 01:33 AM Thanks for telling me the song title, Barry. Haven't got that clip edited yet but here you are at the Sunday night concert, singing the song about Guantanamo Bay DK if that's the title. I can edit stuff like that at YT, of course. Genie |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Bill D Date: 15 Aug 09 - 12:22 PM Oh, wonderful, Genie! I found the lyrics to Salonica online and saved that video and watched it with the lyrics right beside it to be sure I didn't misunderstand anything. A treasure!..(I LOVE technology!) |

Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Genie Date: 15 Aug 09 - 02:08 PM Mick already had his out, Barry. He just hadda put the geetar down. But you started banging on one of your own pretty soon. A real dynamic duo. ; D This hadda be about 3 AM (or later). Woolloomooloo Lair : Barry Finn w Big Mick |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Barry Finn Date: 15 Aug 09 - 06:35 PM I'm being stalked by the video fairy, thanks again Genie. Am I gonna have to put u on the payroll cuz I'm flat busted unless we can somehow "busk by video" & make some pennies? No need to change nothing, Guantanamo Bay to the title. Again, thanks for all the kind comments Barry |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Genie Date: 15 Aug 09 - 07:56 PM Well, if you can figure out how to earn a good living doing folk music -- well, you'll be a few steps ahead of most folkies. But you're welcome to use the videos for self promo or for promo for FSGW, etc. When you earn your first million, you can double my current agent fee, OK? I'm just glad you're OK with the videos being shared, cuz I think it's agreed you give great chantey. G |

Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Genie Date: 19 Oct 09 - 12:45 AM Refreshing this thread, to remind people to check out Barry's online videos. So glad we still can listen to that great voice. Barry left us way too soon. Genie |
Subject: RE: Barry Finn just found himself on U-Tube From: Genie Date: 19 Oct 09 - 07:11 AM Here is a video Amos made at this year's Getaway of Barry singing Banks Of The Callow. Less than two weeks before Barry left us to sing with that too-rapidly growing heavenly band. Genie |

Subject: MrBarryFinn channel at YouTube From: Genie Date: 19 Oct 09 - 03:56 PM Most welcome, Gnu. I'm just glad I was able to capture a few video clips of Barry singing last year and put them online for him and others. Especially now. I don't know how many Mudcatters know it, but Barry apparently started his own YouTube Channel 3 or 3 months ago. It's just called "MrBarryFinn" at You Tube, and if you type that in their search box, you should find it. Barry apparently embedded a couple of the videos I posted on my channel (WildeNotesMusic) at his own channel, so there are at least 2 places you can find "Salonika" and "Guantanamo Bay" (and maybe "Woolloomooloo Lair" too) at YT. (He apprarently thought that Ebbie had made those videos. Either that, or she is the one who brought them over to his channel from mine for him.) I'm wondering if Justine will be maintaining the MrBarryFinn channel at YouTube in future, and maybe adding more videos of Barry. The channel now has the Banks Of the Callow clip, Old Dollar Mamie (I think), several Finn And Haddie videos, etc. But I'll bet there are more floating around. Genie |
