Subject: A Press Room story From: dwditty Date: 07 Jan 11 - 02:03 PM I was in New Hampshire earlier this week. I had heard of the Press Room in Portsmouth, of course - mostly from posts on the mudcat. I saw there was an open mic there on Tuesday, so I drove over from Salem. After getting a slot on the roster, I asked the host if there were any people there who might have known Barry Finn. Well, of course there were, and the result was that I was welcomed into a fine group of people for the evening. One woman even carries a picture of Barry - singing, of course. I never met Barry but knew him from here, and we had chatted several times. I just think it is great that someone like him, even in death, is still bringing folks together. dw |
Subject: RE: A Press Room story From: SINSULL Date: 07 Jan 11 - 03:00 PM Barry is deeply loved and sorely missed by a lot of people. Check out utube for some recordings of him at the Press Room, locals' homes and festivals. A more generous soul would be hard to find. |
Subject: RE: A Press Room story From: Jeri Date: 07 Jan 11 - 04:50 PM Dw, you have managed to piss me off! I MISSED YOU!!! Next time you come up here, let people know, OK? I would have bought you a drink, and clapped and stuff. (I haven't been to a Hoot since... since sometime last century.) |
Subject: RE: A Press Room story From: dwditty Date: 07 Jan 11 - 08:01 PM Well, Jeri. I hope to do it again. Not stuffy and certainly not pretentious. The music rules the house, for sure. I will be back up there the first week of February and will post if it looks like I can make it there (pesky day job sometimes leaks into the night). |
Subject: RE: A Press Room story From: Jeri Date: 07 Jan 11 - 08:24 PM I look forward to it! |
Subject: RE: A Press Room story From: Bat Goddess Date: 07 Jan 11 - 09:58 PM Some of us from the weekly Friday session (or the monthly sea music singaround) might have showed up, too. (Tuesdays I work until 8, but it's on the periphery of Portsmouth.) I, too, haven't been to a hoot since some time in the last century, even though The Press Room is sort of my "other office". Glad you were able to check out The Press Room...come back again! Linn |

Subject: RE: A Press Room story From: GUEST Date: 15 Jan 11 - 02:37 PM Hi dw, Barry was my husband and your post is so appreciated. he certainly lives on in our hearts, and at the Press Room whenever music is being sung. Barry would have been 60 on February 5th, as Mary says above. He lived a large and vibrant life that defies ever being forgotten. Thanks for being one of us who keep his spirit alive. Justine |
