I am a member of Mudcat but am not signing in for this thread. I hope it is obvious why when you read on.

My identity has been stolen on Facebook. It has my name and my photo on it, but it is not me. People I know have been contacted by my impersonator. It is very worrying.

I have put the word out that I am taking legal advice and that I am seeing the police in the next few days, and the fake page has now gone.

Still, I aim to press charges and have tried to get in touch with Facebook, but their page is utter rubbish and I can't see anywhere on the page where there's a phone number or email address. I have filled in one of their online forms as if my member's page has been compromised, even though I don't have and have never had a member's page, because there seems to be no alternative.

Facebook haven't replied.

Any help from anyone who knows how to get through to them will be received with gratitude.

They appear to go out of the way to make it difficult to contact them.
I really hate Facebook in so many ways, don't really know why I stay on there.

I changed internet servers and have a new email address. I forgot my login and personal code. Would like to quit facebook, but can't access my account, or anyone from facebook. Like the last poster says....they make it nearly impossible to find them....shady business. As a result of poor safeguards, I suspect a class action lawsuit will face facebook, for identity theft someday.

You stand on the top of the highest mountain, then you yell at the top of your lungs..."Will you ********* B*STARDS answer my emails!!!!"....and you listen....

......to the Silence......

So, you write to the lawyers instead, Facebook's Lawyers, that is...

Richard, do you have their email address?

If you will go to the top of the thread titles and type in FACEBOOK in the box, then use the drop down menu to set your time to 90 days, then hit Enter, you will see several threads with all kind of information which will help you. As others have mentioned, Richard Bridge, has posted a LOT of good info and I know I posted some of their addys at one point. Have a look and you will find them. I had the same thing happen to me, several times over. It took a lot of persistence to finally get it stopped. Good luck.

Here are a few I've culled from my email:

abuse+d1ou7tt@facebook.com

abuse@facebook.com

privacy@facebook.com

info@facebook.com

Thanks, katlaughing, I really appreciate it. I will email my complaint to *all* those addresses and also PM Richard for advice.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has complained to Facebook and had a successful outcome. Does such a person exist?

Sorry guest, you won't be able to PM until you join Mudcat, but you are not alone in this. I too am one of the targets of this kind of activity.

It's worthwhile joining the Cat, even if you are an infrequent user. You can find out nearly as much here as from a whole bunch of encyclopaedias.

Don, I have PMed Richard as I am a Mudcat member and frequent user. As I said in the first post, I don't want to sign in for this thread, just so that some fascist doesn't decide to steal my Mudcat name for a 'social networking site' *as well as* my real name, adding insult to injury. This may seem a bit paranoid, I admit, but some really vile things have been said in my name and, as far as I am concerned at the moment, I can't be too careful.

I've found "facebook" to be a VERY BAD JOKE ... and that's putting it mildly. Several family members keep trying to connect with me on that program. I cannot navigate the website and I've contaced family and asked them NOT to try to reach me that way. I have four different ways they can contact me.

I'm amazed that "facebook" manages to stay in business with all these complaints. Bob(deckman)Nelson

That's precisely the problem Beer.

I didn't have a Facebook account, until somebody told me I was on there supporting the BNP, and shortly after I lost a promised gig because the organiser couldn't put a BNP sympathiser on at his venue.

I then found that I had to open an account to even SEE what was being said in my name.

Facebook have no concern for their members. and no concen for their own Tems & Conditions.

I am still having trouble, and have to maintain a presence on there so as to know what is happening.

I find when keyboard and fingers conspire against me it's often actually gin at the root of the problem.

I too have had problems with Facebook, but at least they did eventually pull the offending false profile. It still hasn't stopped the guilty party/parties trying to get me to allow them in as 'friends' as I get 2 or 3 requests a day from the idiots. They really do think we are as stupid as them. What a load of no hopers they are.
A word of warning - go nowhere near BEBO as they don't listen at all.

I now have a reply from Facebook. It asks if I have resolved the issue. That's it. That's the reply. If ***I*** have resolved the issue?!?! How the F*C* can ****I**** resolve the issue?!?!

So I replied, just copying my previous email. This was yesterday. No reply today. Ah, well, it's only identity fraud - nothing urgent or important.

Only by addressing the problem "in its complexity and as a whole" will bring about peace.

In answer to the questions above about contacting their lawyers, I sent letters to ten lawyers who were named as having worked for Facebook.

I received just one response as follows:-

Dear Mr. Thompson,

Thank you for contacting Green Welling P.C., regarding your issue with Facebook. At this time, however, we are not able to take on your case. Please keep in mind that our decision is not a reflection of the merits of your legal claims. If you wish to contact another law firm to pursue this matter, please do so promptly because the passage of time will affect your legal rights. You may wish to locate your local bar association's public information section regarding an attorney referral at http://www.hg.org/bar-associations-usa.html.

We appreciate the information you provided, and hope your problem gets resolved in a satisfactory manner. If you encounter another situation you would like to bring to our attention, please send me an email or contact us through the website. You may want to periodically visit our website at www.classcounsel.com for information which might be helpful to you.

Yours very truly,

Brian S. Umpierre

Helpful little bleeders aren't they? I didn't even ask them to represent ME. I asked them to advise their clients that I was seeking advice as to how to sue them.

Er - wrong Den. Go the the fake mudcat and rummage about. All still there, one or two still hiding.

I have a new big job on for an important new client, but I might get onto some shock and awe for Fakebook on Sunday. I need to do it for the pro bono lawfirm who might take us on as part of a class action. I am optimistic since the introduction is via a former partner of mine (who used to act for U2).

Yes, the class action may resolve the problem as a whole. What is needed is not peace, but the defeat of the forces (well, that's a rather over-strong word, maybe "la force et la faiblesse") of evil.

I read that Facebook pictures have no copyrights, do what I do insert a watermark. There's not really anything to do about it except for ask the person if you can find them to take it off. most likely they wont keep it for a long time. Sad people.

Not accurate. The offensive pix were taken from other sites and so are not affected by Fakebook contract terms, and the fakebook contract terms only permit Fakebook to use pix - and cannot therefore affect the true copyright owner of BNP fake IDs stolen pix.

Since I posted on 08 Oct 09 - 03:19 PM I have heard nothing from Fakebook. Not a thing. 11 days after I first contacted them, they have contributed precisely nothing to my enquiry about identity theft.

I hope, Richard, that your plan to give some shock and awe works. What will it take for Fakebook to take this seriously?
