Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: gnu Date: 16 Apr 11 - 02:59 PM The only "good" thing about it was that only a couple of hundred people died in that one. If ya can balance that against say, a couple of hundred thousand.... plus. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Apr 11 - 04:09 PM I suppose the fact that the invasion failed can also be seen as a good thing,on balance. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 16 Apr 11 - 04:19 PM Here's the article on it in Cuba's "Granma" - http://www.granma.cu/ingles/cuba-i/16abril-desfile2.html |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: Greg F. Date: 16 Apr 11 - 04:51 PM The Cuban expat tail was wagging the U.S. dog then, and has been doing so ever since. Shame stupidity isn't a criminal offense. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 16 Apr 11 - 07:18 PM The Cuban expat tail- Marco Rubio, son of Cuban exiles, elected a U. S. senator from Florida. In spite of their excesively conservative political views (according to some), the Cuban expats have made Miami a vibrant city for both business and pleasure. Excellent citizens! |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: GUEST,Paul Burke Date: 16 Apr 11 - 07:37 PM Which do you think is best for Cubans- being like Cuba now, or being like Haiti now? If that's not the choice, why isn't Haiti like Cuba? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: Greg F. Date: 17 Apr 11 - 12:16 PM excesively conservative political views...the Cuban expats [are] Excellent citizens! Now, that IS amusing. Kinda like that other excellent citizen Oliver North, for instance? How much time have you spent in Litle Havana, amigo? |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 17 Apr 11 - 03:30 PM Bay of Pigs- I have passed judgement neither on Cuba nor the U. S., in Gronk's words, "What you see depends upon how much therapy you need." Digression- Oliver North, a low-ranking officer (Lt. Col.), could not make the decisions but carried out orders; he took the heat for the actions of superiors and the State Department. All charges against him were vacated, and dismissed by the US Court of Appeals. A decorated combat marine, he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts for wounds, and the Presidential Service Badge. Following re-instated full retirement, he has been an author, politician and TV commentator and host. |
Subject: RE: BS: Bay of Pigs Anniversary From: GUEST,ifor Date: 17 Apr 11 - 03:52 PM The USA failed miserably at the Bay of Pigs.Yet it has consistently invaded, plotted or interfered in South and Central American countries for many decades. Only 18 months ago ago it played a despicable role in the overthrow of the democratically elected government of President Zelaya in Honduras. Further back it had a hand in the overthrow of President Allende in Chile and supported just about every torturer and tinpot dictator on the continent. Its failure ,then ,in Cuba was welcome and I seem to remember that for every prisoner Castro subsequently released after the invasion a tractor had to be 'donated ' to the Cuban farmers. ifor |
