Subject: Cilla & Artie retiring from Singing Kett
From: GUEST,MC Fat

Just read on either the Scotsman or Herald website that Cilla Fisher and Artie Tresize are going to retire from their children's show 'The Singing Kettle'. Dare we hope they may come back and do a bit of singing on the Folk Scene again or is it carpet and slippers time.

This is what they have posted on the Singing Kettle website http://www.singingkettle.com/kettle-news:

Monday 8th October

"CILLA AND ARTIE TO BOW OUT OF THE SINGING KETTLE

After 30 glorious years, the creators of The Singing Kettle, Cilla Fisher and Artie Trezise today announced that their forthcoming Christmas Tour would be their final stage appearance and at the
same time unveiled exciting plans for the future of Scotlands Favourite Children's Entertainers.

Husband and wife, Cilla and Artie feel the time is right to introduce new blood to continue the huge success of the Singing Kettle brand.
Cilla and Artie plan to continue their involvment with The Singing Kettle and will take on backstage creative roles. Cilla will continue to write songs for future productions while Artie will produce the stage shows as well as direct the DVDs and CDs.

The good news is that the company have begun the process of recruiting a new female cast member to join Gary Coupland & Kevin Macleod for the new tour starting in March next year.

Our 2013 tour schedule is in the process of being finalized and the initial dates are listed on our website. The 2013 show will be called 'Rumble in the Jungle'

Cilla and Artie's final show will be on February 17th at Edinburgh Festival Theatre."

The singing kettle is comming to Orkney soon although folk will find it hard to go if they have more than one little darling at £11 per head regardless of age

Oh dear, after over 25 years in Scotland, I confess I've never seen them. Must try to get a ticket for that final show! Sdaly the grandson is living out of the country or i'd have taken him along! Anyway, hopefully the show will go on with the newer incumbents!

Tattie Bogle -- if you're going to the show, you'd be well advised to beg or borrow someone's wean.

The last time I went we had the 1+ year-old great niece, complete with a plastic bottle and lentil shaker (as required). It was both delightful and astonishing to watch her: she not only shook the shaker at appropriate moments as invited, but desisted from other noisemaking at inappropriate moments. And she was wide-eyed with amazement throughout!

Cilla and Artie have given an immense amount to children's entertainment over the years and have set a very high standard (the price reflecting their investment in great costumes and fabulous sets -- to clarify for Megan on Orkney).

What Anne said! My wean is now 22 and loved the Singing Kettle tapes when she was wee. I still do!

I only remeber them on the folk scene. I saw them in Scotland and Amsterdam and would book them at Faldingworth if they were planning a tour in England.
