Over our side of the pond, we don't let black people have hand guns. Or white people. Or yellow people, or brown people and especially not ginger people.

So the only people who guns are those willing to be criminals in order to have them.

Do we have some gun crime? Yes. Do we have lots? No. Do police carry guns? No, only armed response units and airport security.

What it tells me is that there is no need, no need whatsoever for private people to carry hand guns. None at all. Mind you, police carry truncheons which make "hard" men piss themselves laughing. Now they carry tasters which makes "hard" men just piss themselves...

I think it needs to be pointed out that in terms of helping Afro-Americans achieve equality, the Republicans and Democrats switched sides somewhere along the way. So I think your info is simply out of date Songwronger. It would be the Republicans at this point that would want to find ways to discourage legal gun ownership among Afro-Americans. And, I'm sure they are doing it in the same way that they are discouraging the vote-in the backdoor. Plus making gun laws that allow white people to shoot minorities and get away with it is very much in line with their racist beliefs.

Politically aware Afro-Americans are for gun control because they understand that although the gun culture didn't come from their community, they are the ones that are being hurt the most by this false sense of empowerment with guns- in a couple of different ways. They are notoriously bad shooters because they would be somewhat unwelcome at the shooting range. Cops and military- that's it. Not to be trusted unless firmly under the thumb of the state. What goes on in the gangsta subculture has done nothing to allay those fears. Pretty sure that was the point but it's not particularly helpful.

But remember, demographics are changing. I'd like to see the police disarmed as well.

I'm not sure they should be trusted with automatic weapons, so maybe limit 'em to semi-automatics, long guns, and ordinary handguns, and definitely no more than 500 extra rounds of ammo in storage.

And humans? Ha! Disarm every last one of them suckers. They can't be trusted. History has proven this so many times already that I got no need to belabour the point.
