Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Acres of Ground (Eliza Carthy) From: Reinhard Date: 30 Aug 16 - 11:58 PM One is one is all alone And ever more he will be so |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Acres of Ground (Eliza Carthy) From: cnd Date: 31 Aug 16 - 06:42 AM That makes sense, Reinhard. I don't know why I had so much trouble with that line yesterday. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Acres of Ground (Eliza Carthy) From: Reinhard Date: 31 Aug 16 - 01:14 PM I admit that I also couldn't decipher this line at first, until I compared it to the first verse of Come And I Will Sing You (The Twelve Apostles): Come and I will sing you, What will you sing me? I will sing you one-o. What will the one be? One the one that's all alone and ever more shall be so. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Acres of Ground (Eliza Carthy) From: Jim Dixon Date: 06 Sep 16 - 12:11 PM I think I'm hearing this: Four, four, between the bed and the door, There's acres of ground I'd not noticed before. Four, four, it's been the bad and the door, There was acres of ground I'd not seen there before. Furthermore, I'm not at all sure it's not "house" instead of "hands" and "give you wine" instead of "hear you whine" And in a few places I hear "one-o" "two-o" etc. but it's not consistently there. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Acres of Ground (Eliza Carthy) From: Cattia Date: 06 Jan 21 - 11:03 AM Can anyone help me? I don't understand the meaning of the verse: it's feathers for you and down for me. Grazie mille |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Acres of Ground (Eliza Carthy) From: cnd Date: 06 Jan 21 - 12:02 PM That's a pun; "down" is the softer under-feathers of birds used in nicer pillows and sleeping bags. The singer is saying she'll get the nicer things and the other person will get the worse parts. |
