I sent out a handful of them, and re-tweeted some images of postcards the people posted on Twitter. I expect by tomorrow or Monday they'll be getting a lot of mail, though unless the post office says something, Trump will probably not admit to.

I hosted an Ides of Trump postcard party Sunday - was kinda last minute at the request of a 'resistance' group I belong to.

If noting else, I got to meet some people who live locally I haven't met before.

My understanding the goal is quantity, not quality - so I just winged off one liners and kept it emphatic but polite.

Refresh

Tomorrow's the day. In case you missed it here's Joe's original post:

    THE IDES OF TRUMP

ON MARCH 15TH, 2017 MAIL THE WHITE HOUSE A POSTCARD THAT PUBLICLY EXPRESSES OUR VOCAL OPPOSITION TO ACTIONS OF THE NEW PRESIDENT..

We will strive to show the man, the media, and the politicians how vast our numbers are and we will bury the White House post office .

Each of us — every protester from every march, each Congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — will write a single postcard and put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, 2017.

-Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We're setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day.

So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and write from the heart. All of our issues — DAPL, women's rights, racial discrimination, religious freedom, immigration, economic security, education, the environment, conflicts of interest, the existence of facts — can and should find common cause. That cause is to make it irrefutable that the president's claim of wide support is a farce.

    How to participate:

    1. Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Create your own cards, buy them, share them, it doesn't matter as long as you write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump on them somewhere.

    2. If possible, take a picture of your cards and post them on social media (tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump or #TheIdes, please). This will help us verify our numbers.

    3. Spread the word! Everyone on Earth can let Washington know their opinion of the President. They can't build a wall high enough to stop the mail.

    4. Then, on March 15th, mail your cards to: The President The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500

WHEN DO WE MAIL OUR POSTCARDS?
We ask everyone to mail their postcards on the same day — March 15, 2017. They will arrive in a wave over the next days and weeks.

WHICH POSTCARD AND/OR MESSAGE SHOULD I USE?
We leave that up to you. This event is INCLUSIVE. We want everyone — regardless of which issue or issues concerns them most — to be part of this postcard campaign. Some will send pink postcards, others will focus on immigration, or environment, or any number of other issues that are ALL important.

We invite people to write personal messages, by hand, from the heart. While mass-produced or computer-produced postcards are also welcome, handwritten cards accentuate the number of people behind this campaign.

Please DO write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump somewhere on each of your postcards, If you can, take a photograph of it, and post the picture to social media.

Please DO NOT write or depict anything violent or encouraging of violence. (e.g., maybe we shouldn't mention what happened to Caesar..... -Joe-)

SHOULDN'T WE PICK ONE ISSUE TO WRITE ABOUT?
While everyone writing about one cause would certainly send a more concentrated message, the goal of this campaign is to bring people together in opposition, regardless of which cause they feel is most important. All over the world, people are expressing grave concerns about the directions in which this administration is taking America and the planet. We want all of those people to be part of The Ides of Trump.

    WHO'S BEHIND THIS EFFORT?
Someone had the idea and others stepped up to help, but millions of postcards need to be written by millions of people, or none of it matters.

    WHAT IS THE POSTCARD COST?
Use one first class mail stamp

DO I NEED TO INCLUDE A RETURN ADDRESS?
No. Postcards do not require a return address. We do not recommend including your actual return address.

In other words, if you're thinking of getting a very nice nun mad, think twice....

What will YOU write on your postcard?

Go for it!

Email, most studies have shown, they disregard almost entitely. Actual postal mail is more likely to be noticed. What really gets their attention are telephone calls, but that unfortunately runs into money.

I have fond memories of George Dubya's visit to Ireland some time ago - he stayed about thirty mils from here at Dromoland Castle
A courageous young reporter Carol Colemen (a distant relative of the legendary fiddle played, Michael), was given a prepared list of questions she was allowed to ask the Pres. - she threw it away and proceeded to ask the questions she thought important - a truely magic moment to cherish that was debated in the press for some time after - almost as memorable as Thatcher leaving number 10 in tears like a child whose toys had been taken from her.
Trump seems to have learned the lesson from that one

No, Acme, I look at all manner of news sources from all parts of the spectrum, though I tend to avoid tabloidism (not necessarily tabloids, but my antennae are a-twitch for axes to grind). Al Jazeera has good, measured reporting but there is obvious bias as to what they regard as the most important issues of the day. So what? That's the same for western-based media too. If a couple are stabbed to death outside a clothing shop by a jealous lover here, it gets acres more coverage for days on end than a car bomb in Kabul that killed 80 people. Is that bias?

It should be remembered of course that that statement is made on the sole proviso that he [Donuel] gets to decide and dictate to everybody else what "goodness" is.

"newsflash there are more sides than one."

Very true, but what a pity you are simply just not prepared to listen to it - Hypocrisy at it's worst from another of this forum's proven liars.

But two things will come from any attempt to bury the White House in an avalanche of postcards:

1: It might prevent a real appeal to the President of the United States being read and considered

2: It will have no effect on the present incumbent but will do enormous harm to the "Office of the President of the United States of America" - in that Akenaton is perfectly correct.

On March 15, 44 BCE, the Senators of Rome let Julius Caesar know how they felt about him. A very nice nun sent me this letter:

Aside from the fact that it isn't just the press, let's look at how the press (and broadcast media) "twist" the news:

They decide which news to give us and which news to withhold.
They decide whether to have the news splattered all over the front page or to stick it on the bottom of page 17.
They decide how to comment on the news, if at all.
They decide how the news should be edited for consumption.
They decide to what extent the news should be sensationalised.
They decide on what kind of eye-catching headline to employ in order to draw you in.
The more scurrilous of them decide to embed comment and bias in articles (remember "enemies of the people?" "Gotcha!" And "Up yours, Galtieri?")

The press and broadcast media are intrinsically biased and selective. We get the press we deserve. Unless people treat the press with the scepticism it fully deserves and approaches it critically, they'll carry on getting away with lots. Almost four million people read the Mail every day. I have to conclude that they read it uncritically. They wouldn't buy it otherwise. I rest my case.

Quite right donuel " more sides than one ".      " when the press is banned.."   Are newspapers closed down ?   Are they being told what stories to report or how to do so ? Or is it just that some of the press is not welcome because they might twist the news !?    Not too sure it's the best course of action, but the protests seem exaggerated.

Back to the postcards - I'm seeing people talking about printing their own with memes on cardstock. I'll probably simply send some of the regular ones I have here, of national park beauty spots (requesting that the parks not become drill sites for gas and oil).

Don't forget to take photos and post them online and tag them with #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump . Twitter and Instagram are easiest to search (the settings on facebook are so variable that you probably won't see as many results).

No one here mentions it by the words, arrest, imprisonment, murder.
Instead we say fascist or ideological words.

We all know many countries have inherited dictatorial rule.
Germany in the 30's Syria Iraq Egypt Chile Japan Iran the list is endless throughout history.

America was supposed to be different. People may say It Can't Happen Here. But it can.
When protest is called a betrayal, when the press is banned when you become a revolutionary to stand up for the Construction and Trump attacks the protests as domestic terrorists who do not obey the president...

Will Ake Pete and Bruce celebrate my arrest imprisonment and murder?
Will they accept yours? Will they believe we had it coming?
I will not answer for them.

I thought about it more and Greg is right.

The culture of protest does not overcome society.
It does not overcome a society of racism hate , xenophobia, genetically different people or the billionaire class and their wannabes.
Four score years of right wing conditioning on the media of radio,TV,church and internet with a trillion dollar price tag does not evaporate quickly.

But we must protest and show goodness has a powerful voice
whether it is acknowledged or not.

surprising things happen.

Pete, its not "different opinions" and "alternative views"- its "alternative facts" (i.e. outright lies) and bullshhit and xenophobia and racism and un-Constitutional actions & decrees.

And you're quite confused, or possibly simply ignorant of the actual situation in the U.S. Educate yourself.

Until then, time to say good-night.

Ake, you're off the rails in trying to defend the piece of shit who is rambling around the White House at night, watching TV and tweeting, it's pathetic. Seriously. You need to back off and just go do something else. Joe started a thread that suggests a democratic act to show our disdain for the man and his puppet masters who are in power right now. Yet you suggest postcards are treasonous? REALLY?

I have concerns about your health at this point. Is this the only way for you to get attention, by continuing to start fights with others? You know this was a trick the old mudcat troll used. He used the nasty politics of the BNP and EDL to stir up others and give himself plenty of angry targets to pick on. You're doing the same with the Alt right component of the GOP.

You stalk members and try to keep those fights going. You need to get counselling: you don't contribute here, it's a crutch instead of medical help.

Another reason he's backed out of the Correspondents' Dinner is that he sees it as "establishment" and will be able to say by not showing up that he's not "establishment." A billionaire who's made his money by being a thoroughgoing member of the snout-in-trough end of capitalism wants us to think he's not "establishment." I should coco!

By the way Ake
"do you actually think the Media act in your interests?"
The media serves its own interests, which range from selling newspapers to supplying information to the public - and all the bits between
It is varied in its value, but without it would to allow it to be controlled by a demagogue is unthinkable - that is what is beginning to happen at the hands of the Trump regime.
This apparently suits your agenda
What do you propose as an alternative?
I will be very surprised if you respond to this - I suppose it doesn't come under your take on 'freedom of information'

"There is a word for trying to subvert a democratically elected government,"
Trumps entourage was not elected Democratically (Russin intervention is not democratic) and his behaviour in power is getting less and less democratic by the minute.
Its latest stunt is to stifle information by only allowing those who will present his behaviour favourably into press conferences.
Suppression of information is a basic tool of all Fascist regimes - control and destruction of State institutions such as Justice, security and law and order are others.
He has had that in his sights for some time now.

Imagine if UK residents tried to swamp the government because they lost the EU referendum......There is a word for trying to subvert a democratically elected government, I suppose you know that word, you and others on the left have used it often enough in other circumstances.   There is another word beginning with H and ending with y which applies to those who do not practice what they preach.

Trump, or his gang, have responded to protests and legal challenges. It's all on Twitter, followed by the staff "restatment" of what he really meant to say. The restatement is actually appearing when he had to back off of whatever lame-brained thing he was complaining about and someone else explains it because Trump will never apologize for anything. Ever. So get those postcards ready, I and I will be commenting on the lack of press access on mine.

(You saw that he backed out of the Correspondent's Dinner - after his recent behavior even he can see that it won't turn out well.)

This thread really amuses me, do you actually think the Media act in your interests?

"Let's hope the disease doesn't spread to his supporters in Britain and elsewhere"

Actually, it spread from here to there. Alex Salmond banned the Telegraph from one of his pressers years ago.

I'm in. Canuckistan has 1/10th the population of the USA but I dare say, there will be a fair few postcards from the Great White Frozen. I hope they pour in from all over the world.

Don't be silly, Jim. This was a skirmish, the larger battle looms.

It seems that the Sister's letter is too little too late - the Trump Storekeepers have now gone viral by banning numerous media outlets, including CNN, BBC and The New York Times from the White House Press Conference
Free speech now seems a thing of the past in the U.S. - I don't think petitions and protests are going to get a look-in
Let's hope the disease doesn't spread to his supporters in Britain and elsewhere

Work and pray live on hay
They'll be pie in the sky when you die.
That's a lie

You are tough. I'm just saying you may not be as skeptical as you claim.
