Well I'm proud to say that my feet are honestly absolutely perfect. Not a corn, bunion, ingrown toenail, callous, nothing. My toes are as straight as when I was a child. I've never had nail fungus or athlete's foot. My arches are well-arched.
The reason for this is that I have never ever worn high heels, just flat shoes/sandals. I have never worn shoes with pointed toes. Even in winter I prefer sandals without socks, so my feet are never constricted and have plenty of air.
One of my friends invited me to join her at a reflexology session last year. The lady was astonished at my feet and said she'd never seen such unspoiled trotters!
But the rest of me is a bit of a disaster frankly! :)

One bigger and broader than the other, but that's not uncommon: but have to always try the right shoe on first. Like Senofou, I don't wear high heels, and can't understand people who do. Glad that I can still reach my feet to cut my toenails, at over 70! Hard skin ++, but you don't really want to know that.

Chronic eczema on the soles of both feet for 25 years, only kept under control by really drastic treatment or else it cracks and bleeds and I can't walk.

Seems to be caused by motor vehicle pollution - it went away after a spell in rural Romania where the local transport was oxcarts.

Deterioration with age in the lumbar spine causes all sorts of symptoms in yer legs. Tell me about it. I needed spinal surgery to get rid of my worst symptoms, but I can stlll get some tingling and numbness. Could be a bad back, Michael.

I had Haglund's Spurs on both heels, causing calcination on the inner side of the Achilles tendon.

The Peroneus Longus tendon on my right leg/foot had been riding up onto the ankle bone for years (since a "sprain" I'd had had actually ripped the tendon sheath, unbeknown to me at the time).

Had the spur removed from the right foot a few years ago, with the Achilles cleaned up and re-inserted (held in with screws). At the same time the doc took a sliver of bone from my shin and created a channel with it for the Peroneus Longus tendon to run in, curing the riding-up issue. Whilst in there, he noticed that the Peroneus Brevis tendon had a longitudinal split in it, so fixed that.

No wonder I'd been struggling on long runs!

Took quite a while for things to settle down and for me to get back to mountaineering and running, so I decided to leave the Spur on the left foot as it wasn't nearly so bothersome as the right had been. It seems to have settled down so there's no incentive to go for another operation.

Other than that, my feet are great, considering how much I run, and how much time I spend carrying heavy rucksacks over steep/ rocky terrain.

Good grief Rob, what a complicated procedure! Glad it all settled down and is now better. Your feet must be in good nick if you do all that running up and down mountains carrying a heavy rucksack.
I felt a bit tired just reading your post!

I broke my right ankle in 1994, and the surgical repair left that foot pronating in a way that the left one doesn't. Now that foot has a bunion that bugs the hell out of me. When I buy shoes, the first question always has to be: Do they have a removable insole? Shop assistants hate me; I never want to talk about style or colour until we have settled the removable insole issue.

My feet are really cute. Sometimes I wonder if I could make the big bucks as a model for feet. There are hand models, why not foot models?

But I don't care enough about it to do anything.

Hi

I have suffered from nail fungal infection for several years and have tried several things from the shelf. Non of them worked f0r me in fact it gradually got worse. The problem is that with the shop bought potions you have to wait some months to see if there is any improvement.

Recently when having a periodical check-up with my Doc I brought them to his attention. He advised a Podriatrist ( Used to be called Chiropodists) for which I would have to pay. . He also provided free on the NHS some tablets which will have to be taken for at least six months.

I have had two sessions with the podriatrist when he cleaned up the toenails and advised 3 different creams to be used in sequence.

I am already seeing great improvements so I consider it is worth going through this complicated process.

Cheers

MikeL2

The oral antifungal will be griseofulvin. You have to take it for that long because the way it works is to permeate the whole of your nail - you need to be taking it for as long as takes for your nails to grow their full length.

Jack 25 years? That condition is painful and practicly life threatening.
Some oral anti fungals here have dangerous side effects.

I've always wondered, just how does one contract a fungal infection of the toenails? Swimming pools? Gym showers? I used to frequent both (many years ago) and fortunately for me escaped getting an infection.

My husband got athlete's foot (again, years ago!) when he played football around various Norfolk clubs and used their showers, but that was easily dealt with by Mycil powder.

Hi Jack thanks for helpful comments. I realised that I needed to wait until the whole nail had cured. In my case though their was absolutely no new growth.

My new treatment will ensure that the treatment will continue both internally and externally until everything has cleared.

Mike

hi sen

I don't know how I came in contact with this fungal attack.

I played all sports most of my life with no problem with my feet.

I do tend to wear sandals in the summer and do my gardening in sandals.

Could be that??

Mike

The organic cure requires a heavy shopping cart or hammer.

Run over the affected toenail with heavy shopping cart or soundly hit nail with a hammer.
A new fresh healthy nail will grow to replace the nail that falls out after the painful procedure.

It worked for me.

OTOH you might just end up with a misshapen toenail like mine - it doesn't grow longer, just thicker. Have to use wire cutters and a file to trim it.

I once damaged the tendons on the underside of one foot after standing on a thin ladder rung for too long. This slackened the tendons, caused movement under the heel and a spur formed.
The solution was to wear high heeled boots for a couple of months. This threw my weight forward onto the front of the feet and allowing the tendons to tighten up and the spur to dissolve.
Had to watch out got low doorways more, I am 6 foot tall already!

Unfortunately I have all 10 toes affected and I think this is because I wasted a lot of time and money in trying to do DIY treatment instead of consulting a doctor.

I had a fungal nail infection. Used Vick vaporub on it twice a day and it was gone in about 4 weeks. Something to do with the volatile oils I think.

Hi Dave

I tried a few " home treatments " but not Vick.

None did the slightest to cure my feet. I also bought from the pharmacy several potions none of which were cheap nor did they work any better.

I seem to have contacted a very virulent fungal infection that just refused to bugger off. I had spent time and money trying to shift the thing but it refused to go.

Trouble was in all this time my toes were getting worse. I was embarrassed by the sight of my feet. Eventually but only recently I showed them to my GP who set the ball rolling. He recommended that I see a Podriatrist. He tried to get me one on the NHS but I diddn't qualify. He got samples of the fungus by taking cuttings from my nails. Thesed convinced him that I needed strong tablets which I obtained on thr NHS. He warned me that this plus the attentions of the podriatist could take months to completely cured.

The podriatrist has already trimmed and cleared up co I have more confidence that this will work.

Cheers

MikeL2

I had a set of tablets for a fungal infection a decade or so ago. I seem to remember that nothing happened for 3 months then it suddenly cured it in a couple of weeks.
Must be a case of building up a level of chemical in the body.

Apparently your feet are approximately the same length as the distance between your wrist and your elbow.

Doesn't look as if that's true but then your feet are usually further away than your forearm ...

Senoufou, my doctor said the fungal infection under a toenail can get there when there is an injury. I have one toenail that is quite thick and needs regular trimming. I tried the doctor's cream, I tried over the counter (one almost seemed to get it, then I stubbed the damned toe again and probably reinjured it.) I figure the toenail cure isn't worth the risk of liver damage from a long-term pill.

I enjoy a hot foot soak every week or so in the summer, along with a rough washcloth and pumice scrub. Maybe it has to do with wearing sandals, but my feet seem to need a lot more attention in summer.

That's very interesting Acme.
I wear sandals winter and summer, with no socks ever, so my feet are exposed all the time. I don't even use soap on them, they just get squooshed about in the bath water while I wash the rest of me. They seem to dry themselves, as I don't use a towel on them either!

I wonder if some people are particularly prone to this foot fungus?

My sister had no end of verrucas when she was at school. It ended up with hospital treatment as they grew inwards and she could hardly walk.
I never got them either.
