Subject: Remembering Derek Brimstone From: Big Al Whittle Date: 29 Aug 19 - 04:32 AM Would have been Derek Brimstone's birthday today. Probably the man who fuelled my vision for wanting to be a performer. Sadly he's gone from us now - so I can't go out and see him do a gig this evening. Maybe a bit later, I'll put the guitar in open D and play Pallet on the Floor. - taught to Derek by the man they named a big knife after, hero of the Alamo ....Colonel Jim Bread!!! |
Subject: RE: Remembering Derek Brimstone From: GUEST,Ray Date: 29 Aug 19 - 06:39 AM I remember sitting on the sound desk for him at Leeds festival many years ago. The weather was so bad he asked for some brown light to make him look sun-tanned and then the marquee started leaking just where he was sitting. Remember the story of him chauffeuring Rev Gary Davis? Said he could have driven himself but he kept bumping into things! Then there was the story of the train and the mailbag ........... unrepeatable? |
