Subject: RE: Kate Wolf What was your favourite song From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Jun 20 - 10:20 PM I think my favorite Kate Wolf song that Kate wrote, is "Across the Great Divide." But my favorite Kate recording is her medley of Redtail Hawk/Pacheco. Pacheco is a mountain pass between the Central Valley and Monterey, California. It's kind of a mystical place for me, with the hawks and buzzards soaring on the wind currents. And at the summit of the pass is a really huge and tacky fruit stand, Casa de Fruta. And beyond is Hollister, earthquake capital of California, the town that was taken over by the Hells Angels motorcycle gang one day in the 60s. Kate tells the tale of many parts of California that I love. -Joe- Purple clouds turn scarlet in the setting sun Where sagebrush turns to alive oak And the white tail run The air is cool as music When the day is done And God paints the sky above Pacheco Driving all day up the San Joaquin Turn west again, up through Pacheco Through the blue hills back of Santa Cruz We're rolling fine Where red tail hawks go circling Like the ways of time And lovers and friends will meet again 'Round red Sonoma wine And God calls the night above Pacheco Driving all day up the San Joaquin Turn west again, up through Pacheco |

Subject: RE: Kate Wolf What was your favourite song From: Bill D Date: 03 Jun 20 - 11:02 PM Well.. if we limit it to her own songs, I like The Trumpet Vine.... but if I may be allowed, I really enjoyed her singing one that Utah Phillips wrote. "Aces, Straights and Flushes". She sang it the one time she performed for FSGW and I stole it! Then the only recording of it I know of was put on #3 of the Utah Phillips 4 volume set. |
Subject: RE: Kate Wolf What was your favourite song From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 04 Jun 20 - 06:21 AM I'll second the nomination of Pacheco/Redtail Hawk, with honorable mention to The Ballad of Weaverville. For songs she wrote, Give Yourself to Love. |

Subject: RE: Kate Wolf What was your favourite song From: DonMeixner Date: 05 Jun 20 - 07:41 AM I will admit that I am not a huge fan of Kate Wolf's writing. I liked her singing but not all of her songs. That said, when she hit the mark she was right on target. I also will admit I haven't heard her songs in 20 years nor have I heard all she wrote. If Kate Wolf is someones intro to American Singer Songwriters, they had a good introduction. Utah Phillips and Rosalie Sorrels thought well of her and that's a pretty good cheering section. My top five are The Trumpet Vine, Carolina Pines, Eyes of a Painter, Across The Great Divide, and Emma Rose. Don Meixner |
