Subject: Bob Dylan mondegreens, anyone?

The man has written and recorded ever so many songs,
and his diction can range from decent to way-out-there.
Am I the only one who has heard something they misunderstood?

I didn't know my Dylan, aside from the Peter Paul & Mary covers,
when I heard a broadcast of a live album/performance.
Dylan roaring at the top of his lungs, what sounded like

"Highway Sexy Whooooooa!" and the bass drum THUMP THUMP THUMP!!

say WHAT?
That was a while ago. I know better now . . .

There are some very funny ones at http://www.amiright.com/misheard/stories/bobdylan.shtml. The most common one is in Tangled Up In Blue, where many people hear "split up on the docks that night" when it's really "split up on a dark sad night". I'm fond of one from Shelter From The Storm, where someone heard "It's Du Malone that counts" instead of "It's doom alone that counts."

A bit off-topic, but I often giggle listening on Youtube to Peter Kay's 'Misheard Lyrics' (It only lasts about 3 mins, do have a listen!) He says that when on a karaoke, one realises that one has been singing the wrong lyrics for years. Examples:- Michael Jackson sings, "Your burgers are the best!" (Your burdens I will bear) Followed by Celine Dion "The hot dogs go on." (The heart does go on) KD Lang "Arseholes" (All souls)
Very very funny!

I see from the amiright site that I wasn't the only who heard "give the bums a dime" as "did the bungle jive" in Like a Rolling Stone.

Already posted on the "any new mondegreens" thread but I'll put it here anyway.
Rosemary combed her hair and took a cabbage into town.
Actually a carriage, but have a listen! (Lily, Rosemary and the jack of Hearts)

I've been singing "split up on the docks that night" for over forty years now - and I've been wrong? I prefer the mondegreen, though, so I'll stick with it.

I never questioned that one, but in any Dylan song I've ever learned, there's been a phrase or two that I had to guess at ....

"The ants are my friends" is a very funny mondegreen,
and it has to be said that
when Peter, Paul and Mary recorded "Blowin' in the Wind,"
their clean clear diction ensured that
there was NO mondegreen in their performance

("The answer, my friend, is ...")
