Subject: I love Mudcat From: Grey Wolf Date: 21 Jan 00 - 11:57 PM Given that there's been so much negative feeling around here recently, I thought I'd try and introduce something positive, lest we forget how good this place still is. Today I learnt how to start playing guitar like Kate Rusby, I learned better ways of transfering tapes to my computer, I smiled at the discussion on the best way to glue guitars and I listened to some MIDI files of songs that I'd not heard in ages. Yesterday and the day before were similarly good. When I log on tomorrow I expect it will be equally interesting. I think that Mudcat is ace, and long may it continue |

Us cats just have to do that every now and then. But the litter box gets stinky after a while and some think it is OK to crap on one another. Thank you Grey Wolfe for starting the positive note. I think it is time we dwell on the MCs good points and bury the crap behind us. Read what you want and post where you can be comfortable. We have in our reach probably the best Web site to be found anywhere. I listened to Max on radio archives and heard some disturbing remarks. Folks, Cats, you loose him, we all fold and and find another place to hang around. Max sounded like he was on the edge of chucking the whole thing. We need to be more sensitive to his needs and give him encouragement, not bigger headaches. I litsened to about an hour and still found the radio show very good. Positives are good......... Mudjack |

I have gained a deeper understanding of musical theory. I have learned some techniques I can use in performance. I have found that there are many people with interests similar to mine who have the same questions about the music and what they do with the music. I hope it continues much as it is at the moment - as for the disruptive element - well I am sure my dad is bigger than their dad, so I'll not lose sleep over them! |

This community is important to me, here in the middle of the Pacific. I'm glad for its many experts and many characters, for the connections to music and people I've lost touch with since leaving the Northwest, and for the people who share their humor and humanity along with the music. Once at Camp Harmony I mentioned to Faith Petric how wonderful it was to be a part of the folk community that stretched from Northern California to British Columbia, and she replied, "It's a lot bigger than that. It reaches all over the world." Faith is right, and the Mudcat proves it. You have to move your phone from BT to local tel but they say line rental is the same, guarantee call costs 10% cheaper and offer a free ISP. When I've been especially blue, I've turned to the mudcat to make me laugh. When I have something exciting to share, I often share it on the mudcat. I met my wonderful friend, harpgirl, via the mudcat. I know that I could travel nationwide, and even internationally, and find a mudcatter, with whom to play music. And we would have lots to talk about because the mudcat would be at the core of our conversation. If you've been around the block a few times, you know this isn't something you take lightly. I've learned so much musically. The mudcat has stripped away my shell and allowed me to feel emotions that I thought were gone forever. Max is very old for his years and I think he knew when he designed the Mudcat Cafe it would encompass the world. And it has done just that. What a high it is for me to be sitting in Tallahassee, Florida, chatting with Alison in Oz. Who'da thunk it? And, while there are times when I need to put space between me and the mudcat, I'm still there. Checking in on friends. That's why I love the mudcat ... moonchild |

They'll testify that I spend more time on Mudcat than I do at anything else. I just love it here so much! The epic tale that spawned from my little Mudcat Juke Joint post was the greatest thing I've felt I've ever had the honor to be a part of. I'm also looking forward to having one of my songs being played on Mudcat Radio, possibly this week. But most of all--I love the Mudcatters themselves. I've had the chance to go beyond posting, and do some ICQ chat and Hearme stuff with some 'Catters. It furthers the connection I feel--instead of faceless internet colleagues, they become close and true friends. I goes to show that friendship is so strong that it can pop up across five to five thousand miles, between people you've never seen or met--that's what I call true friendship. For friendships with likeminded (and occasionally not likeminded) people For the DT For the forum which backs up the DT with other info on the songs when you're doing a search and can't find what you're looking for (I have encountered SO MUCH information when researching related threads-- websites devoted to lore of the Selchies, for just one recent example) For the PM pages where you can have private converations with friends or share info that's not of general interest for the Forum where so many kind souls will help you find words and references not found in the DT and other problems we all need help with For an opportunity to share ideas, inspirations, the pleasure and love of music, hopes and fears, ideals For showing us the world is not so big after all and we are not alone I get on Mudcat at least twice a week when my life is busy, once a day when I can, and as often as possible when I'm traveling. I try not to spend more than an hour at a time, because it is so addicting; but I can't always limit myself to that. There's too much wonderful stuff here. Just for comparison, I seldom spend more than 3 hours a month looking at other sites on the net, though because of my work I am often on email an hour or two a day. Bekki |
